Purity.
Acquiring purity is impossible.
Essence is already purity.
There are merely sediments
floating around essence.
I once observed a dance by young Tibetan nuns in Nagi Gompa near Kathmandu. They did a Cho dance, with damaru drums (12” drum with a handle, with two swinging beads attached, and when the handle is twisted with the hand, the beads beat the drum).
They moved slowly in a circle, using a sequence of steps. It was very ordinary and repetitive. To them, the dance was a meditation not a performance. It was so pure – unlike westerners doing the same thing, which would be a performance.
The next day I had a meal with Lama Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche who is the abbot of this nunnery, and said, “Watching the dance, their purity made me feel ill.”
What I meant was, that the purity made me realise I had to let go of my sediments. My ego was screaming, “I can’t do that!”
The nun did nothing.
Merely danced.
There is nothing to do.
Merely recognise.
