The difficulty with being honest.
It’s not easy being honest with ourselves.
So, it’s not easy being honest with others.
It’s not easy for them to be honest with us.
Actually, can we be honest?
To be honest,
we need clear, compassionate minds.
But minds are transient, changeable things.
Best to say nothing?
But then we never engage with others.
If we do engage,
we have to be prepared for conflict.
Let’s face it, we cannot be honest,
and neither can anyone else.
“I’m being honest!”
That is merely the mind saying
what is in it’s mind at that moment:
it does not make it true.
It’s just an honest opinion.
To honest, we can’t be honest!
Is anyone looking for honesty?
People are not looking for honesty.
They are looking for confirmation
of their opinions.
“But I’m putting them right!”
If we are saying that,
we’re saying they are not
in their right minds.
Someone not in their right mind
is not going to listen…
“To thine own self be true.”
To be honest
may not be the right course of action.
It’s not that we cannot be bothered:
it’s being skilful
and compassionate
and at peace
with oneself.
One’s attention is solely on them.
That is meditation in action.
Honest!
