Sentient Beings Are Creatures of Habit
We are creatures of addiction, dependence, craving, compulsion, fixation, enslavement; monkey-see money-do. It’s our weakness. It’s ‘what’s best for me’. We have our routine – orders from our karmic repository. Habit is our personal programme. When we live in our world of ‘me’, compassion for others beyond ‘me and mine’ is rare. It’s a little unpleasant to say the least, as it gives rise to so many negative emotions. We become an imitation, a stereotypical caricature of exaggerated characteristics giving rise to comic, grotesque effects which seem normal.
Loving compassion really does change all this.
We become aware of others more than ourselves
as there is no knowing what may turn up.
One of the causes of suffering is change – we don’t like it!
In genuine confidence, we are open when change occurs.
In compassionate confidence there is nothing to defend
as nothing is expected.
