The Reason Why We Have Longing

We have never been separate from the enlightened state.
Not having recognised this, we were led astray,
looking elsewhere for this ultimate truth.

Whether we are happy or unhappy,
this state is neither improved nor impaired.
We merely rest at ease with whatever occurs.
Realisation is enlightening relief.

Resting at ease with whatever occurs is our spiritual path,
leading to the realisation of this enlightened state.

Once realised, we retire from the distractions of excessive worldly activities.
When we are alone, it is then that we gain true confidence,
without a need to refer.

To doubt this is to keep returning to a book of no experience.
