Seeing Fault And Looking For Fault
Seeing fault and looking for fault:
There is a world of difference.
This is such a subtle area of our psyche, where we can switch from rightness to mistakenness = good and evil. ‘Seeing’ and ‘looking’ aren’t the same thing. When we say ‘looking for fault’, we generally mean ‘finding fault’.
We tend to find fault in others, and not in ourself.
Both these aspects of fault are, in fact, teachings.
To put it simply: if we see a painting on the wall and notice that it’s lopsided (out of true), we’re not finding fault – we are just seeing that the painting is wonky. If we can we straighten it, we do so. But sometimes, a window doesn’t line up with a post outside, and there is nothing we can do about that. Obviously someone didn’t use their spirit level accurately, or there was ground subsidence … :D. In the first instant, it’s something just seen and no judgement or blame accrues i.e karma.
The teaching is in our reaction. It is showing us what we are holding on to, which obscures the moment now, and creates obstacles to compassion for self and other.
There are two aspects to suffering;
mistaken view and holding on to mistaken view.
Suffering is eliminated by just seeing and dropping it.
That ‘just seeing’ is pure consciousness.
It’s that simple.
