HOW DO WE KNOW WE ARE AWAKE?

How Do We Know We Are Awake?

“But I am awake!”
Awake to what?

Just because we see things and react to them
doesn’t mean we’re awake to our reality.

We aren’t actually awake because we refer mechanically to memories, a continuous loop of ideas picked off the walls of the mind. We are repeaters.

Wakefulness arises when we recognise the habitual responses which hold us in this cyclic existence, limiting our full potential of realising pure consciousness. Coming out of the dream is seeing afresh, creating clarity by asking, “What is this response in my mind?”

Seeing afresh is not taking whatever is presented to us for granted. To an ordinary human mind, this will seem like pie-in-the-sky because it knows what to do or say – it’s done it all before. 🙂

A practitioner is someone who lives in spontaneous wakefulness.
The first step to waking up
is being dissatisfied with the same old sleep talk.
