What If There Was No Religion?
It’s an old question.
Even if there was no religion, there would still be conscious awareness for, without that, nothing could be known. The essence of all beings is conscious awareness. Why make a religion – which binds us – out of it?
The problem with religion is that it becomes a culture of isolationism for, if compassion is only for those in that religion, it is isolationist. Ancient texts, which may seem to be true, are adopted, and a culture forms a religion around those texts. In our enthusiasm, we forget the essence of conscious awareness, which equals unconditional compassion for all.
If consciousness is something we do clever things with, we may get some gratification, as consciousness has become an entertainment. Do we just entertain ourselves until death, or do we value conscious awareness?
If consciousness is what we are, how precious is that to us? What is the purpose of life then? The purpose of life is to realise that we are the ultimate truth, and thus we become aware of all the useless distractions which entertain us – or rather, manipulate us – until death.
This brings us to the question, “Is there consciousness after death?” No one can tell us that there is or there isn’t, so there can be no story, no argument. It’s a personal inclination, which has an effect on the way we live our life – and it’s not for anyone else to tell us how to think.
