Love And Compassion Are Challenging

Love and compassion are challenging, and this is the reason why we need empathy, sharing and understanding how things come about. True communication is very rare as we not only have a strong belief in a self image, we also hold on to stories. 

People like stories: news, films, songs, gaming, philosophy, politics, religion … are all stories. We like swapping ‘our’ stories, thinking that this is communication, when it merely maintains a false and programmed reality. Whenever something is said, we immediately relate it to a story in our memory.

If we don’t believe in their stories, people get upset. There is currently a proposed law in the UK about anti-social behaviour, which may criminalise disbelieving the beliefs of others – this is the challenging state in which we live.

Empathy is the wisdom to see how this all came about. There’s nothing we can do about it as stories are what most people live for. All we can do is be there when they’re fed up with stories. 🙂
