Troubled Souls
‘Soul’, ‘spirit’, and ‘consciousness’ are all words for the essence of being. Any feelings we have comes from soul/spirit/consciousness; mind doesn’t feel as it’s just memories.
When Buddhism says that we don’t have a soul or spirit, it’s the same as saying that we don’t have consciousness. We are consciousness. We are soul or spirit. There is no need for division, but division is created, and it is this that is troubling.
The soul/spirit/consciousness is not the conventional mind of thoughts and ideologies; it is the very essence of what we are – uncontaminated awareness.
We are troubled by thoughts which create emotions of pride, jealousy, fear, hope, indifference … This is the eternal battle between pure perception and whatever is perceived that creates a separatist world.
We so want to commune with others,
but we’re troubled by differences.
This dis-ease is Mara at work,
and it’s the reason why the world is constantly howling and yapping.
When we understand that there are no differences,
we are available and responsive.
