MARA IS OUR TEACHER

Mara Is Our Teacher

“No, no! My guru is my teacher who is nice to me.”

‘Mara’ refers to any force hindering enlightenment. When we recognise this hinderance, we are receiving teachings.

Mara is the feeling of self-importance; it’s not a evil thing running around with fangs dripping blood. 🙂 Mara is that which pokes us, annoys us and, at times, is nice to us. Mara isn’t always intentional – it is just a habit or a culture.

We don’t have to do harm to do harm:
we just have to lack empathy.

Mara has no reality. It is an aspect of mind which relies on laziness, dependency and belief, while seeking validation. Our path is converting Mara’s activity into stabilising the recognition of our true reality of pure consciousness, which is expressed in enlightened activity.

Mara activity is extremely subtle
It knows that worshipping a figurehead (or words)
hinders direct experience.

Life is a constant test or dance;
just recognise the sequence of steps.
