We All Give Off Signals
We all give off signals which make a statement about us that either calms a situation or exacerbates it. People see their script as the guardian of their world, so we have to treat them carefully. They want validation, recognition or affirmation that their feelings and opinions are valid or worthwhile. Some signals are provocative.
Sometimes saying nothing can be more powerful than saying something, whether we’re avoiding conflict or creating space.
‘Speech is silver, and silence is golden’ highlights their relative value. Just as gold is rarer and more precious than silver, this proverb suggests that while speaking is valuable for communication, knowing when to remain quiet is far more precious and skilful. This isn’t about ignoring a situation; it’s an indicator of wisdom.
Everyone is reading one another,
and whatever we read is a shock
when we realise we used to think like that.
