THE TWO VEILS OF UNHAPPINESS

The Two Veils Of Unhappiness

The two veils form a barrier that prevents realisation of our true essence of pure consciousness. Unfortunately, when we read about these ‘two veils’, it sounds extremely complicated.

The first is the mental trap of suffering manifesting as the three poisons of attachment, aversion and indifference. These cause us to react impulsively, which creates a negative disposition and further suffering.

The second veil maintains this delusion and clouds the way in which we perceive. It is the habit of seeing the world as divided into a duality – the seeing and the seen – and maintains ignorance by masking the reality of pure seeing.

The removal of these veils allows us to see without any distortion.

The two veils are
ignorance of our true reality
and the maintenance of that ignorance.

If we ignore our true reality,
we maintain a life of suffering.
