Un-Reinforcing The I
The I, self or ego is our collection of ideas/karma which requires constant validation – and it’s precisely what has to be invalidated.
If we do not eliminate the effects of our past – memories/programming – the same scenarios will keep happening. The life we are leading now is due to our past ideas and reactions, usually to do with people: people we liked, people we disliked and people we ignored.
This doesn’t mean we don’t notice hostility, pseudo-friendship, deception … but by skilfully stepping back and creating a gap, we neutralise karma. Remember that anything we say will be used against us.
The moment we react, we are defending an I that does not exist.
Realising this is ‘spiritual’ practice.
By just repeating mantras and prayers, we’re living in hope;
it’s a good wish, but the real work lies in personal interactions.
