Try Not Getting Back To ‘Normal’

We feel stressed, but any idea of getting back to worldly ‘normal’ is what caused our stress in the first place. Trying to return to others’ normal feels like running back into a burning building.

In recognising a world of competitiveness and conflict, we aren’t malfunctioning – itโ€™s progress.

This is why I stopped going to retreats and lectures.
All I was doing was conforming to the normal.
๐Ÿ™‚

Instead of trying to return to a version of life which broke us, we realise that life is about our path and not someone else’s. This involves recognising that we were educated or indoctrinated, which made us really stupid. ๐Ÿ™‚ I mean really, really stupid. ๐Ÿ˜€

The way society and religions operate, with their constant begging for conformity, is genuinely toxic. We have to know which parts of normal are practical for our survival, and which parts we can walk away from. This prioritisation of what we genuinely value makes our life manageable and enjoyable.

The roman philosopher Lucretius (c 99โ€“55 BC) wrote, โ€œWhat is food for one person may be bitter poison to othersโ€: what one person likes or finds beneficial, another may find harmful.

Our path is walking away from words into direct experience.
There’s Dharma everywhere.
