The word ‘idiot’ originally meant a private person, one who was not part of official affairs, someone outside the system.

It comes from ‘idiosyncrasy’, meaning one’s own ‘private mixture’ which defines an individual as not being part of the collective. 🙂

Most of us are invested in the communal, official view of life.
