Relying on yourself.
Relying on yourself is… tricky. Yes, we have to do the work of recognising, but it’s also necessary to recognise the need for inspiration. Without this, we will not only not start…we will not finish!
People say, “I only trust myself!” This is because they have been led to believe in trusting nothing and nobody. The tell-tale sign of this foolishness is that they personalise their comments, with “ I think this”, or “I don’t like that.”
When ‘I’ is involved it is always a concept: even talking about, “MY higher SELF” is a concept and a duality. To go beyond concepts, we cannot use another concept, as we end up with yet another concept!
In not trusting anything or anyone, we end up in total isolation – separation – depression.
We have to be taught how to rely on our own…awareness, and for that, we need a teacher or teachers. We probably think, “Well, I’m already doing that!” Unfortunately, this is incorrect, as it is merely a reliance on ideas. It is an awareness that is aware of ideas…but it is not the awareness itself! This is the result of a confusion about relative truth and absolute truth – pure awareness and conventional awareness.
Relying on your-self.
Who is relying?
Who is self?
Some-thing relying on some-thing else.
Is self your own projection to be relied upon?
Who is relying…on what?
This is a concept believing in a concept.
Believing in your concepts,
even after a billion eons of searching for a self,
it will never be found.
We have to be shown how to give up looking for a self.
Who is looking anyway?!
And who will never be found.
The teacher merely shows us how to see
that is it we who do the seeing.
The teacher merely shows us how to be aware
that it is we who are aware.
The teacher merely shows us how to let go.
It’s we who has to let go.
When we finally let go of who,
there is no thing more to rely upon!
