The preciousness of a human body.
Although we speak about this body and mind being an illusion, it is still very precious and should not be taken for granted. When we think of all the sentient beings (that’s anything that can make a decision) on this planet, how rare we humans are…all seven billion of us! And, this is only one planet in an infinite universe, which includes unlimited beings transmigrating from one body to the next…wow! It is said that there are higher Buddha realms for practice, but we are here so this is what we are dealing with.
What’s so special about being human? Animals are busy finding food, and have no time to visualise, or ask someone else how they are. They are certainly unaware of their inner awareness, although it is there.
Now consider how many humans are aware of their inner awareness…not many! So you, who are reading this, are incredibly fortunate (as am I) for receiving such teachings.
Although we speak about this body and mind as being an illusion, it is still our precious tool to work with, especially at death, when recognising the senses dissolving. We can also be aware of our subtle body within this body, of how the energies move.
If we are open, we are receptors for blessings from the transmitting enlightened ones. Of course we can also receive blessing from the unenlightened ones if we are closed! 🙂
If we waste this chance in this lifetime, who know what our next incarnation will be?
It is said that, every sentient being has been our mother.
We have forget our previous families.
This is incredible logic.
Unfortunately our mothers have forgotten us too.
Therefore compassion, compassion, compassion.
Hello Tony
I like your definition of a sentient being as “anything that can make a decision”. I don’t know whether I can post an image on here but I was reminded of a photo I saw this morning of a tiny tree from holding a leaf to protect itself from torrential rain. It certainly made a decision! I’ll try and put it on here – if I can’t I’ll put a link and you can get it for yourself.

PS That thing you wrote about all beings having been our mothers but we’ve forgotten, and likewise they’ve forgotten us was very poignant…
