What is Consciousness And What is Spirituality ?
The moment we became confused
If we do not recognise consciousness itself, but only whatever consciousness perceives, then we cannot realise that which is beyond consciousness.
Consciousness has two aspects; it is the facility to perceive, and it is the pure ability of perception itself. There doesn’t seem to be a word for the latter, unless we use the term ‘spirit’ – the non-physical and non-mental aspect of being. In Buddhism, this is called the Kayas. This spirit has three qualities of emptiness, cognisance and compassion = Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya.
The essential nature of pure perception is pure consciousness; empty, pure, uncontaminated space. That is our unchanging reality.
When people talk about ‘my spirit’ or ‘my higher self’, they are creating and maintaining a duality. We are pure consciousness or pure spirit … now!
