Meditation Has To Be Practical
If meditation isn’t changing our attitude, speech and conduct into insight and wisdom, then we are still controlled by thoughts, memories and beliefs. We can spend hours or months meditating in retreat, and still no change has occurred. Why is this? We’ve only learnt to calm down, and act nicely.
Practical meditation is seeing through the facade with direct insight and wisdom through empathetic understanding. Our conduct is about channelling clarity and perception in the moment now; it’s not about our thoughts, memories and beliefs that we still carry around.
Conduct: from Latin ‘brought together’, management of oneself and behaviour. (The original form of the word was conduit, in the sense of ‘channel’.)
Being ‘practical’ is being not too wet and not too dry.
Be fluid.
