ACADEMIC, PHILOSOPHICAL AND LINGUISTIC DISTRACTIONS

Academic, Philosophical And Linguistic Distractions

We all want to appear clever.
Mara works at a very subtle level.

We are supposed to be wise beings (homo sapiens), but we’ve become homo callidus (clever beings), homo ingeniosus (gifted, or ingenious) or homo solers (highly skilled at solving practical problems).

Our cat is all those – in Latin, he’s cattus callidus.:-)

Pure consciousness is an extremely subtle level of being. It’s not academic, philosophical, or linguistical; it is merely pure being. Never be fooled by thinking how clever you are: that is Mara activity.

The Latin for pure consciousness is mens pura – pure mind or pure intellect – or conscientia absoluta – absolute consciousness, unconditioned by outer things.

Whether it’s in Sanskrit, Pali, or Tibetan, words for pure consciousness all have the same meaning. This matter isn’t exotic.

A cat has the gaze, but its intention is the mouse – the reward.
We have the same gaze, but our intention is pure gaze to prevent the mind from wandering.

When the mind is open, the heart is open.
Once we realise the pure view,
our conduct has to match.
