UNDOING PRIDE

Undoing Pride

Undoing pride is the wisdom of realising that whatever we think we know, everyone else will realise in their own good time.

This is the ultimate practice in intellectual humility and emotional maturity. It means stepping away from the urge to force our realisation, truth or ‘correct’ perspectives onto others, trusting instead that they will reach those conclusions on their own journey.

True, this blog is doing exactly this, but it’s just natural effulgence. 🙂

When we uncover a profound truth, learn hard life lessons or find a better way of being, our ego often creates the subtle trap of the pride of knowing. This pride manifests as impatience, and a desire to correct people, as we experience frustration that others just don’t get it. 🙂

Letting go of pride changes how we interact with the others. It’s a sharp-edged sword that we have to tread. 🙂

We accept that we cannot accelerate someone else’s personal growth, or force an epiphany. people only learn lessons when they’re ready to receive them, after many hard knocks in life.

Undoing this type of pride requires understanding that there are many levels of realisation; we may not be at the top … yet.

It forces us to sit with the discomfort of watching people make mistakes or take the long way round, while realising that reality catches up with everyone eventually.
