THE GARDEN OF EDEN IS INTERESTING

The Garden of Eden Is Interesting

We have to know what is good and evil, right and wrong, beneficial and harmful. There can be no guessing. Our level of understanding dictates our morals; they shouldn’t be based on our likes and dislikes.

The Garden of Eden is interesting. God didn’t want man to know good and evil. Not have morals?

The ‘serpent’ is a metaphor for wisdom, and gave instruction. Good and evil is the difference between knowing and believing. Believing delays knowing, ergo belief is evil as belief is not knowing.

Thousands of years ago, humanity was divided by belief, and most fell for this. Why? It’s easier to become dependent on others’ views, than to take personal responsibility.

If we don’t know what goodness is,
how can we have morals?

Realising this can shock the mind into understanding that
we are both good and evil.

Don’t wander, don’t wander, place mindfulness on guard;
Along the road of distraction, Mara lies in ambush.
Mara is this mind, clinging to like and dislike;
So look into the essence of this magic, free from dualistic fixation.
Realise that your mind is unfabricated primal purity.
There is no buddha elsewhere; look at your own face.
There is nothing else to search for; rest in your own place.
Non-meditation is spontaneous perfection, so capture the royal seat.”

THE NATURE OF MIND

The Nature Of Mind

The nature of mind, or the essence of mind, is pure consciousness.
That is our essential being.

It is the empty atmosphere of uncontaminated clarity, while thoughts whirl in turmoil within this space, contaminating our mind.

It is our belief in and fixation upon these contaminants that causes us subtle suffering, because we believe these thoughts to be what we are – our self.

Inner space and outer space are pure emptiness.
Inner space is in conscious harmony, at one with everything.

This is non-duality; appearances and recognition are simultaneous.
In this way, the essential nature of mind
becomes the nature and energy of compassionate empathy.

WHY DO I TALK ABOUT BELIEF SO MUCH?

Why Do I Talk About Belief So Much?

To engage in anything, we first have to trust or believe that the information may be correct. If we merely go through the routine of belief, we just repeat the information. I’ve spent fifty or so years in ‘spiritual’ practices, and they all depended on belief – I didn’t actually know. Why not? I had become dependent on the teacher, and assumed that I didn’t know enough, so kept going back. The truth is in the Buddha’s words, “Do not take my word for the truth; test it for yourself.” So I did just that, and no longer have to believe!

We all become dependent on the figure-head, and the figure-head encourages the dependency. I’m saying this because I’ve never met anyone with enough empathy or confidence to talk to about belief and actual knowingness. They were all adherents to words and rituals.

Beyond belief – any belief – is pure consciousness, which is exactly what we are. Why would we believe anything when we know what we are? Anything ‘other’ is belief; an illusion.

It is here where we can truly define good and evil.
Why do we believe?

We choose to believe, or are led to believe something.
We don’t want to be the last to believe;
we want to be in the in-crowd,
the inner circle, the ones in the ‘know’.

It’s where the praise and glory is.
This happens in all walks of life.

Delay is the tool of evil because belief delays knowing. Why? Because we are intellectually lazy. We want to appear to know, and we learn all the ‘information’ without actually knowing. Information is flawed when it doesn’t get to the point immediately. Belief is superficial fluff, and it’s unreliable.

Once we know beyond words, we can immediately pick up when something doesn’t smell right. Belief isn’t the complete story, and therefore censorship is at play.

When we collude with a belief, we group-lie, and stand on thin air. This is the death of evidence-based spirituality. The evidence is in actual seeing without bias or comment – just pure consciousness. When pure consciousness is experienced and realised, there are no doubts.

The evidence is here now, but we take no notice/ignore, and continue to chant gossip and bang our drum (louder gossip).

Belief is the first law of ignorance; the belief in an I.
It’s not what we are.

WAKE UP BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE

Wake Up Before It’s Too Late

The Global Attempt To Control Humanity
Think it’s not possible?
You and your government will have no choice, no free speech, no voice of objection.

Listen to this short video by Philipp Kruse at the Health and Democracy Conference, 13th September, 2023 EU Parliament Strasbourg regarding new proposals by the WHO:

The imposition of global restrictions.
Impact on countries’ sovereignty and people’s self-determination.
Granting self-authorisation and the ability to impose measures on people.
Total control through monopoly on information.
Violation of the principle of informed consent.
Imposition of diagnostics, assistive products, and gene-based therapies.

THE PROBLEM WITH BEING ENTHUSIASTIC

The Problem With Being Enthusiastic

The problem with being enthusiastic:
it puts people off.
🙂

People have to come to the realisation of their true reality in their own good time, and that will depend on karma – the result of previous actions and tendencies. It’s better to do this sooner rather than later or we’ll miss the boat, and die in oblivion.

The world is in a very dark place, but some people are actually waking up to this – not by waking up to injustices, as those scenarios are merely accelerators of darkness – but by genuinely asking inner questions, and not just reading and assuming they know ‘something’.

Those who want to control everything
will not like this new-found freedom,
and so will instigate restrictions and censorship.

As the majority complies with these dictates, the situation isn’t going to change any time soon, but those who have eyes to see will not die in oblivion.

The problem with talking about such things to the unaware is that it seems ludicrous, and they go back under the blanket. This isn’t their time. Feeling uncomfortable is subtle suffering, and for some, it’s excruciating. The blankets don’t help; they only muffle. 🙂

Be ready sooner rather than later.
Take a hold of yourself
–  get control of your thoughts and emotions –

OCCULT

Occult

Occult: to keep secret, to hide, to conceal …
… the truth.

There are no mystical, supernatural or magical powers;
these are illusions.
It is truth that has been kept a secret.

Why?
Creating belief in ‘magical’ powers exaggerates belief.

The absolute truth is that we are uncontaminated awareness beyond mind and body. We are the pure light of consciousness, and always have been. When this is realised, we are free from mystical supernatural, magical powers, and corruption.

Thousands of years ago, these fantasies were expertly conjured up to deceive people by creating the magical mystery industry which promoted an idea of ‘good’ and ‘evil’. We all like a goody-baddy story, don’t we? With the cool dude who wins the day? We watch and become caught and held – but the subtle message is that good and evil are out there rather than within, and we all fall for it.

The occult is the truth within.

Talk about the ‘truth’ only goes so far, but soon morphs into names and appearances again. When we realise that the form-of-appearances is not the real thing, the secret is out. The authentic practice isn’t rituals, but direct experience of nowness beyond religious elaborations. Nowness is ordinary clear seeing, clear light.

We live in a virtual reality of projections in our mind. Our attention is constantly being diverted and confused. Divide and conquer, and evil wins. Evil likes a ‘good’ polemicist; a person who engages in controversial debate.

Whatever we may think evil is,
it is many steps ahead of our ability to think
because it practises more!
🙂

Evil can out-think the masses as it’s busy, day and night.
Wisdom can out-think evil, as evil is seen being busy, day and night.

Wisdom is occult.
Evil is pseudo-occult.
😀

Evil can fool most of the people most of the time … but not all.

THE SIMPLER IT IS

The Simpler It Is

Is: being present.

That is what we are.
It has no name;
some call it pure cognisance.

The more we experience being present, the simpler realisation becomes. Teachings are all about this moment that always is, and whatever obscures it. ‘Spirituality’ can spoil it, and meditation can spoil it when we make a big deal out of it.

‘Spirituality’ attached to religion can become pretty complicated, where we do this, and this, and this, and get lost in centuries of comments. We do not find our way back by learning all the comments; we realise the simple essence – that we are what we seek.

In this day and age, we should start by knowing what the end is, otherwise we may follow others’ culture and become caught up in the form, forgetting the essence. Every culture has its form and that is good for stability, but we each have our own culture and language to work with (even though it may seem pretty crazy).

If we read the word ‘Dharmakaya’, we have to translate it into our language, and then experience it as uncontaminated emptiness, or gap … but we don’t need to seek this. We are this already.

Meditation is the method. Once we calm down into simply being, we drop the meditation, only to return to the method when we forget. When we know, we don’t have to keep knowing! 🙂

Samsara (the vicious cycle of existence) is complex.
Nirvana is simply seeing Samsara as a reminder of just seeing – pure cognisance.
In this way, everything is teaching.

ERGO, OTHERS’ MINDS ARE LYING TO YOU

Ergo, Others’ Minds Are Lying To You

This is mostly unconscious, as it’s a continuity of collective ignorance or indifference to our actual reality of pure consciousness.

We do, however, consciously exaggerate to prove our point, but all we’re doing is building a picture to believe in and maintain.

Realisation is the understanding that we have woken up in hell and, at that moment, the exaggerated mental projections are seen as illusions.

Dante’s Inferno describes hell;

In the middle of the journey of our life,
I came to myself in a dark wood, for the straight way was lost.”

It’s where we are now
– and is the beginning of our journey.

We realise that this self is not what we are, and that is a moment of enlightenment. Our practice now is to remember the straight way, and not to be lost. This is related to our conduct.

YOUR MIND IS LYING TO YOU

Your Mind Is Lying To You

The mind tells us stories which are memories we believe to be real. They’re not real; they are merely ideas we hold on to, but it is from these memories that we make judgements. Our holding on to these stories is the psychological component of suffering.

Our relationship to suffering can change; it can be downgraded when we have an honest look at the judgements we make, and why we make them.

When we have an honest look – free of deceit, truthful and sincere – at why we hold on to our anxieties, then change can occur. Never believe the mind, the intercessor, the negotiator. Realise the seeing of pure awareness. That is the answer to all our questions and anxieties.

The mind is a cinema screen.
The projector projects memories.
The projectionist selects memories.
The audience is pure awareness.

We can become just another projectionist,
or we can stop believing whatever is on the screen.

Meditation works when we drop all appearances
by recognising them.

Appearances in the mind become an instantaneous cause to remember
that heaven and hell are inseparable.

FORMATION: THE POWER OF SUGGESTION

Formation: The Power Of Suggestion

Formation: the action of forming or process of being formed or moulded.

How? By neurolinguistic programming (NLP) = information delivered in a certain way that forms the mind – and forms us – through selected words and images. It’s never a lie; it’s just selected, and mixed with a load of boring stuff that dulls and confuses the mind. That’s what hypnosis is all about; the power of suggestion – when people are suggestible, they will believe anything. It’s not magic, it’s psychology.

Something unusual is brought to our attention and, for a moment, we are flummoxed. If anything out of context happens at that moment, we become vulnerable, confused and susceptible to suggestion, and that is how we acquire pseudo-knowledge, pseudo-spirituality. Conditioned like Pavlov’s dogs, we build our story, our dream state, our placebo and nocebo.

Pseudo: from Greek pseudēs ‘false’, pseudos ‘falsehood’.
Nocebo: from the Latin ‘to harm’. The effect is the opposite of the placebo effect. It describes a situation where a negative outcome occurs due to a belief that the intervention will cause harm.

Suggestion gives rise to belief that can last a lifetime, and shows a lack of an individual sense of responsibility.

The only thing we can know is direct experience now. This experience is not to be used later, as a similar situation will have a different atmosphere. Memories do not fit all moments, otherwise we would just live on memories – usually others’ memories – and we’d sound ridiculous.

Wisdom is actual experience of reality;
it is just pure consciousness in the moment now.

Belief is a take-away snack.
Wisdom nourishes forever.

With wisdom, we step out of line and pay for it,
but it’s worth it. 🙂

Think enlightenment.
Live it.
Become it.

GETTING IT OUT OF OUR SYSTEM

Getting It Out Of Our System

Getting what out?
The madness of a fragile me.

It’s the reason why we lack confidence and doubt ourselves. Note that we always say “my self”, but we are not this ‘self’ identity. Since birth, we have been downgraded into obedience to The System through education, fashion, music, news, television, religion, films … all of which become ear worms / mind worms in later life. It’s ‘brand’ awareness. Once we become victims, it’s hard to get the system out of our system.

This is exactly why to meditate
– to experience the suffering of mental torment,
and thereby release it.

“It’s not mental torment! It’s my music!”
We cannot talk to people who are in The System …

Once we realise that we are not this feeble self-construct and that we are, in reality, pure consciousness, the question may arise, “Why do I still feel uneasy?”

This is because of a residue from our past (mind worms), and an expectation that our life should be better. Our karmic gearing still needs to be disengaged; if we don’t understand this, we drop back into lack of confidence and doubt, relying on automatic mode.

We still have to pay bills, repair property, mix with others, have our likes and dislikes, but we no longer doubt our essence, even though all those around us are still competing with one another.

The System is built on bullying/competing, where individuals and small groups who take advantage of the rest, habitually intimidate those whom they perceive as vulnerable. This is how we are subtly confused and divided. Bullying is also called ‘mobbing’, where others will assist to reinforce their system. The System doesn’t like individual free thinkers.

Getting out of The System is understanding The System. But first, we have to acknowledge that we are in it to want to get out. Getting out is accepting that it’s not going to change so we work with it, as it is now our teacher.

The darker the shadows, the brighter the light!

EMPATHY IN COMPASSION

Empathy In Compassion

Empathy in compassion
saves us from ourselves.

Compassion is pity, and creates pride.
Empathy goes far beyond compassion.

Compassion: sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Latin compassio(n-), from compati ‘suffer with’.

If we ‘suffer with’, then two people are drowning.

Empathy is the ability to understand the suffering. Empathy knows, while compassion is belief. The most decent human quality is empathy, knowing how difficult it is to change.

Compassion: The theory of the six perfections: generosity, patience, morality, discipline, concentration and transcendent wisdom.

Empathy: The actual practice of the six perfections: generosity, patience, morality, discipline, concentration and transcendent wisdom.

The difference between compassion and empathy: is “Om mani peme hum” chanted as a belief, or is there knowledge of what it means, and is it actually put it into practice?

DOUBT, FEAR, AGGRESSION, PRIDE = INSTABILITY = DOUBT…

Doubt, Fear, Aggression, Pride = Instability = Doubt …

It’s all very subtle.

We live in a vicious cycle of existence but don’t know it,
because we don’t want to know.

We prefer to believe in
others’ doubts, fears, aggression, pride, instability…
and the show goes on.

It’s all very subtle.

The media points the finger and we run. Who tells the media which way to point the finger? If we say it’s just a cock-up, we are merely following the finger of not wanting to know … If we want to know, we can trace it back to the conditioning of our ‘self’. What is the arbiter of truth?

We already know!
Arbiter: supreme ruler = pure consciousness.

If we do not know that we are pure consciousness, then unfortunately, we will remain mentally unstable.

What happens when we know?
We then become religious and develop pride!
This is why empathy in compassion saves us from ourselves.

IT’S GOOD TO KNOW

It’s Good To Know

Goodness is just the knowingness of pure consciousness.
It is our natural quality of pure clarity.

This isn’t about how much we know.
It’s about the life force itself
– consciousness –
for without that, nothing would be known.

I was asked, “Why is consciousness good?” We can read too many philosophies and become confused. The pride of competing with others intellectually obscures the unity of knowingness within all of us.

To realise that we don’t know something,
there must be a knowingness present to know this!

It’s that simple.

THERE ARE NO SUPERNATURAL EVENTS

There Are No Supernatural Events

Supernatural: a manifestation or event attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature: unnaturally or extraordinarily great.

Sciencefrom Latin scientia, from scire ‘know’.

There are no supernatural events, except for the human stupidity of believing in anything without evidence, without knowing. Things only seem extraordinary to those who do not know.

We all live under the laws of nature, both gross and subtle. The gross laws of nature are attraction, aversion and indifference. To those who understand that there are subtler laws of emptiness, cognisance and compassion (which correlate to the three gross laws), it seems extraordinary that we are bound by those three gross laws.

Simply put, our true being is pure/empty consciousness that realises the nature of all beings and has compassion for their misunderstanding.

Pure/empty consciousness is uncontaminated by thoughts of the past. Through attraction/desire, however, we fill up emptiness so that consciousness forgets its purity and attaches itself to ideas in the mind; this creates judgement that creates aversion, and so we lack compassion.

To repeat: to those who do not know, everything is exaggerated as extraordinary and supernatural – we do like elaboration and excitement, and because of this, humans can be manipulated.

The force beyond scientific understanding
is knowingness/consciousness itself
– before anything is known!

SUBTLE SUFFERING

Subtle Suffering

Subtle suffering:
Not having (materially and intellectually),
having too much (materially and intellectually),
and feeling the pressure of conditioning.

This is why we feel uneasy most of the time,
and spend our lives conforming, and being moulded.

Pure consciousness cannot be squeezed into something so limited;
for this reason, we feel uncomfortable and suffer.

HOW DO I KNOW MEDITATION IS WORKING?

How Do I Know Meditation Is Working?

Others notice a change.
This doesn’t mean they’ll like it,
as people prefer the familiar.
🙂

Our behaviour may not be perfect as we still have emotions, but now they are guides. We are just more aware, more responsive, more adaptable, more intuitive, more positive, more tenacious – and we could even be more angry. 🙂 All this is energy.

It doesn’t mean we are all smiles; that is for the public face. We are concerned with the situation and pay attention. The world is seen as shocking, in its fixation with taking sides. We see the cycle of things, and this causes conflict as our early traumas are still active.

Meditation works,
because perseverance works.

Light attracts shadows – mere reflections in the mirror.
This realisation is where our power and protection lies.
Empathy is knowing the nature of suffering that cannot be ignored.

This is all about non-duality.
Pure consciousness.

COMPOS MENTIS, LUX MENTIS

Compos Mentis, Lux Mentis

Compos Mentis: having mastery of one’s mind.
Lux Mentis: light of the mind.

The light is pure consciousness.
We are the light of consciousness.

If we have no mastery over our mind,
we are non-compos mentis: of unsound mind.

If we have no mastery over our mind,
we have no understanding or empathy.

Lux mentis is always present,
but appears dull when obscured by the mind’s ideas.

SIMPLE BUT DIFFICULT … BUT SIMPLE

Simple But Difficult … But Simple

Our true reality is simply pure awareness. Its presence is precious timelessness. We do not have to do anything to know or realise this. So why is it difficult? It’s difficult to comprehend as we attach more importance to the ‘intellectual’ theoretical self-image in our mind than to our actual reality.

We may think that enlightenment is as high as the sky but, in actuality, it’s right here, right now, while we maintain a personal position many fathoms down, stuck in an ocean of mud.

The main problem with realising the simplicity of our actual reality is the way this absolute truth is dressed up in the mud by religion and intellectualisation.

No one directly tell us, “You’re actually in shit!”
Instead, they suggest a sing-along, or chant-along … 🙂

Whether we have good karma from good life-education, or bad karma from bad life-education, we are all in the right position to come to the surface … no higher. With good karma, we are ‘happy’ to stay where we are. With bad karma, everything ‘stinks’ so we want to get out. Why don’t we?

This brings us the the question, “What is evil?” Evil is happy in the mud, and wants everyone else to play there with them. Evil exploits our likes and dislikes, while we ignore our current environment and predicament. We’ve got used to it, and we’re hoping for the tea and crumpets to arrive. 🙂

What is simple?
The moment when we recognise the shitty mud … we are free.
The more we recognise the stench of self-righteousness everywhere, the more we want to be free.

If we see evil as a monster, we make life difficult for ourselves and others. The snake in the Garden of Eden did us favour and instructed us on the path to enlightenment, knowing good from evil.

But what about, “… or you shall surely die?” This means to bring an end to suffering. It’s an upside-down world; the story of the so-called Garden of Eden was written by people who didn’t want us to be aware.

‘Evil’ actually shows us the way,
rather than charming us into staying as we are.

It motivates us.
Funny, that!?

Doubt only arises when we believe others’ apathy.

TOGAL, TREKCHO, SHUNYATA, DHARMAKAYA …

Togal, Trekcho, Shunyata, Dharmakaya …

Togal, Trekcho, Shunyata, Dharmakaya …
… all become cliches – overused, and betraying a lack of original experience.

Certain Tibetan or Sanskrit words get special interest, which is very sad as it’s terminology-based as opposed to ordinary, natural experience. Our natural, pure experience can know the meaning beyond words. That is of vital importance, so that we can express experience in our own words for that moment now. This shows empathy and understanding, rather than merely being clever titties.

You know what I mean.

Togal is the gap; trekcho is the moment of the gap; Shunyata is the emptiness of the gap; Dharmakaya is the gap; Dzogchen is the gap; Mahamudra is the gap; Maha ati is the gap …the gap is the clear space observed by pure consciousness where everything takes place.

Repeating words is second-hand reality.
Direct experience is first-hand reality.

THE GARDEN OF NO MORALS

The Garden Of No Morals

The middle way is to know both sides, and therefore have full knowledge, free of ignorance. Morals are knowing right from wrong, good from bad, depending on our level of understanding.

If we do not know what is good and what is evil, then we have no morals; even though we may appear to have morals, they are based on our personal likes and dislikes. Confused? It’s meant to confuse.

Why would anyone say, “Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”?
This would mean that we have no morals at all. Why create beings without morals? This isn’t a good place to start, is it?

Why the threat of, “… or you shall surely die”? That’s a very strange edict laid down thousands of years ago, to which people still cling. Why? Because it is dressed up in regalia. Take the uniforms away, and all that’s left are polished cliches. In the moment now, we have to search for the words to express an actual experience, rather than repeating from memory.

This piece of scripture sends a mixed message deliberately, so that we will not realise that we have always been free to know what we are; pure consciousness, pure awareness that is able to see clearly.

Knowing right from wrong arises within clear seeing,
and not from blindly obeying even a Buddha.

When we test the truth of morality for ourselves,
we know what the truth is.

Remember, Adam wasn’t an enlightened being. We have to work that out for ourselves. The problem is that, initially, we are innocents = pure consciousness, but innocence can become gullible instead of remaining guileless, without deception.

KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL FREES US

Knowing Good And Evil Frees Us

Not knowing, we live in a fool’s paradise,
enslaved by extreme apathy.

Not knowing, we are not bothered.
Do you see the whole picture?

We’ve become clever primates, scratching one another’s backs, and hoping for something in return.
All the while, pure conscious awareness – for that is what we are and not the body – is caught up in an illusion of reality. All phenomena is impermanent, while pure consciousness never changes.

What is good and evil?
Goodness is seeing clearly without likes and dislikes; the moment of pure consciousness.
Evil is quite simply being caught up in those likes and dislikes.

To function as wise beings, we test to see if something is good or bad.
In over-indulging, we become evil as we never have enough.

Homo sapiens: wise being … not monkey, see monkey do.

THE POWER OF SUGGESTION

The Power Of Suggestion

A suggestion primes the mind as a foundation for future events, like a hypnotist who comforts and relaxes the mind prior to making a suggestion to a receptive mind. When we are young, we are very susceptible to suggestions, and that is where it starts. Actually, no, it happened to our parents and grandparents … for thousands of years. Suggestions are passed on like memes.

Words or phases are adopted by the mind without actual experience, and we repeat them from our script of cliches. Once the words have settled in, their meaning can be subtly changed and manipulated, and we don’t notice.

Don’t think of this as theoretical – suggestions are in our mind now. If someone pushes our button by, for example, mentioning a name, off we go. This is neurolinguistic programming.

A global non-elected ‘organisation’ that has power over most politicians in the world asks,
“Is climate inaction a human rights violation?” suggesting that stronger steps are ahead of us, if we do not comply with this unelected ‘organisation’. How can this happen? We are sleep-walking while our minds are being manipulated. Every day, our minds our bombarded with words, phrases and names, telling us who to love and who to hate.

The essence of mind of pure awareness,
either notes this charade or doesn’t see it.

Realising this charade is the presence of pure consciousness,
that allows wisdom to sort the wheat from the chaff,
and decide who to trust and who not trust.

THE SECRET HACKING AND DRACONIAN ENGINEERING OF THE MIND

The Secret Hacking And Draconian Engineering Of The Mind

How does wickedness work?
Through fear, delay of action, and censorship.
Fight, flight and freeze = the primitive brain.

If we do not share knowledge of our true reality, then it is we who are engaged in censorship. Algorithms and the media send us all over the place with spurious ‘information’. People are losing their minds. If we do not speak up, but endorse midsguided information, the world becomes more confused, and we can only blame ourselves.

Ezekiel 33:4-6:
“4 then if anyone hears the trumpet, but does not heed the warning, and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.

5 Since they heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.

6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people, and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.”

Censorship and ignorance have been with us for a very long time. Are our leaders accountable to the people, or to something else? To die and know that we tried to be of benefit to others is a fruitful life. To die and ignore the falsehood played on others – and so be a part of that falsehood – is a fruitless life.

The truth is that we are the very essence of mind, which is pure awareness.
Once we know this, everything falls into place … eureka!

Events do not just happen.
There is inspiration everywhere on our path.
To ignore is to suffer.

KNOWING WHAT WE ARE

Knowing What We Are

There is nothing more amazing than knowing what we are. We are the answer that we seek, the essence of mind of pure awareness. It is not a material thing, made in an image.

Inner peace naturally arises through realising this.

All the heart ache and soul searching – all that frustration – came about by not knowing what we truly are. We are the answer to all our problems. Once this is realised, there is a longing for everyone to know what, in truth, they are. It’s not a mystery.

We’ve been living in hell,
the creation of the ministry of mysteries.
Realising this, hell awakens mind essence.

This is exactly why evil cannot succeed,
as it is the very recognition of suffering
that is the first step to enlightenment.

Now everything is an epilogue –
a final comment on or a conclusion to
whatever has happened.

NO EMPATHY = NO COMPASSION

No Empathy = No Compassion

Know empathy = know compassion.

If we cannot empathise with and understand others, we cannot have compassion. We have all experienced every emotion possible, but because of pride, we hide them or ignore them.

Empathy is recognising and being interested in all aspects of humanity: suffering, being fed-up, frustration, depression … we cannot be of use to others if we aren’t interested in them.

This disinterested attitude is usually a consequence of becoming institutionalised. Many ‘spiritual’ people do not actually care about others; they only care about being an adherent – someone who sticks to doctrine, and acquires another identity. This causes harm, as it’s all about them.

There is only one cause of suffering – self-interest.

Empathy is going beyond the words
and being genuinely interested in the well-being of others,
and the cause of suffering.

Empathy has nothing to do with religion;
it’s about being a respect-able person.

N.B There is a Tibetan Buddhist practice called Tonglen:
Tonglen is Tibetan for ‘giving and taking’ (or sending and receiving), and refers to a meditation practice also known as ‘exchanging self with other’. This is Bodhicitta.

Does it work?
We can only hope so.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF THE RELIGIOUS BANDWAGON

The Psychology Of The Religious Bandwagon

Religion binds certain types together in the name of truth, but it also divides us. Why? The initial wisdom was expressed by a person who was not in the religion – that came later. Why? Do people become realised within the religion, or when they go away in isolation?

Once we realise the absolute truth,
we see this truth.
We see it everywhere.

Are religions bandwagons places where we become zealots and shunners, choosing a side because others are wrong?

The Bandwagon Effect; taken from Wikipedia:

“The bandwagon effect is the tendency for people to adopt certain behaviours, styles, or attitudes simply because others are doing so. More specifically, it is a cognitive bias by which public opinion or behaviours can alter due to particular actions and beliefs rallying amongst the public.

“It is a psychological phenomenon whereby the rate of uptake of beliefs, ideas, fads and trends increases with respect to the proportion of others who have already done so. As more people come to believe in something, others also “hop on the bandwagon” regardless of the underlying evidence.

“Individuals are highly influenced by the pressure and norms exerted by groups. As an idea or belief increases in popularity, people are more likely to adopt it; when seemingly everyone is doing something, there is an incredible pressure to conform. Individuals’ impressions of public opinion or preference can originate from several sources.

“Some individual reasons behind the bandwagon effect include:

Efficiency — Bandwagoning serves as a mental shortcut, or heuristic, allowing for decisions to be made quickly. It takes time for an individual to evaluate a behaviour or thought and decide upon it.

Normative social influence (belonging) — People have the tendency to conform with others out of a desire to fit in with the crowd and gain approval from others. As conformity ensures some level of social inclusion and acceptance, many people go along with the behaviours and/or ideas of their group in order to avoid being the odd one out. The ‘spiral of silence’ exemplifies this factor.

Informational social influence — People tend to conform with others out of a desire to be right, under the assumption that others may know something or may understand the situation better. In other words, people will support popular beliefs because they are seen as correct by the larger social group (the ‘majority’). Moreover, when it seems as though the majority is doing a certain thing, not doing that thing becomes increasingly difficult. When individuals make rational choices based on the information they receive from others, economists have proposed that information cascades can quickly form in which people decide to ignore their personal information signals and follow the behaviour of others.

Fear of missing out — People who are anxious about ‘missing out’ on things that others are doing may be susceptible to the bandwagon effect.

Being on the ‘winning side‘ — The desire to support a “winner” (or to avoid supporting a “loser”) can be what makes some susceptible to the bandwagon effect, such as in the case of voting for a candidate because they’re in the lead.”

LIVING THE DREAM OR LIVING IN REALITY

Living The Dream Or Living In Reality

We can’t make assumptions about this
as it’s very tricky.
🙂

Living in now, this present moment as it is, is the reality-experience of pure consciousness. It’s nothing mysterious or religious. The senses are wide open, the mind is wide open, consciously aware, but relaxed. It is effortless. You’ve heard the expression, “in the zone” – a mental state of relaxed focused concentration in which one dissociates oneself from distracting or irrelevant aspects of one’s environment. We are open to whatever occurs, and there is no premeditation. 🙂

The moment when we dwell on the past, however, we are in memories. Watching memories is what happens in dreams, so when we dwell or become stuck in past experiences, we live in a dream world of projections on a huge screen that takes up all our space.

When we just go through our routine – even ‘spiritual’ routines – in a routine way, we can also be in a dream state. That is tricky, when we assume we are doing good. 🙂

We see people walking around and talking in their predictable dream state; their mannerisms become a caricature, and we know it’s them from a mile away – and, of course, us to them … and we wave in our dreams. 🙂

When we are aware-awake and consider past experiences,
the screen is smaller, not taking up all of space-mind.

Beware of hypnosis.
Hypnosis: the induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction. From Greek hupnos ‘sleep’.

Of course, if we don’t notice that we’re in a hypnotic state,
we are in the hypnotic state
… told you it was tricky 🙂

As a practice, fully conjure up a past memory,
and then suddenly drop it!

See the difference.

THERE IS NO GOOD OR EVIL

There Is No Good Or Evil …

There is no good or evil
… just levels of understanding and misunderstanding.

As we saw in the previous article, “Why do we think differently from others?”, there are levels of experience, all saying the same words, but with changed meanings due to realisation. As they say, “One man’s meat is another’s poison” (or “One man’s poison is another’s meat”).

There isn’t one right and one wrong,
one good and one bad, one moral standard.
We are all at different levels of confusion and realisation.

As an example: we go to a retreat-teaching. There are some there religiously chanting and attending to the rituals. There are others who choose the academic way of translations and history, and some who ‘Meditate’. And then there are the Dharma tourists. The level at which we work is revealed in our ability to empathise with others – not in a generalised way to those afar, but personally. We actually learn from others in the way we respond in our mind.

At the Hinayana level, people see everything as black and white, adhere to rules and are judgemental. We traverse such levels of antidotes, intellectualisations, fabrications and contrivances in an endeavour to purify illusions, to arrive at the Dzogchen level where these illusions are already purified.

We don’t have to be clever to realise this;
we just have to have had enough of the act … the script …
and being part of an audience.
🙂

EVIL IN THE WORLD

Evil In The World

By now, we must know that there is evil in the world, which has been around for a very long time – as long as humans have existed.

Unfortunately, there are many who don’t notice this situation as they think they’re only human. The censorship of knowledge sees to this by affecting our minds through our use of language, so we turn a blind eye to the meaning behind the words.

This is how evil captures consciousness, and turns it away from its reality. Evil is the show, and the show must go on … and on. We are consciousness and, on investigation, we realise that we are pure consciousness.

Evil does not want us to know this: “Do not eat from the tree of knowledge…”

“You may eat freely from every tree of the garden
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil;
for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”
– Genesis 2.17

WHY DO WE THINK DIFFERENTLY FROM OTHERS?

Why Do We Think Differently From Others?

Why do we think differently from others?
Conversely, why do we think like others?
Only the Yanas or vehicles can explain this.

The Bodhipathapradīpa of Atisha (980-1054 CE), quoted in Gampopa’s (1079-1153 CE)
Jewel Ornament of Liberation, makes reference to people of three capacities:

“People are to be known in three ways:
As inferior, mediocre and excellent.

“Those who by any means whatsoever
Provide for the pleasures of Saṃsāra
For themselves alone,
Are called an inferior person.

“Those who turn their back to the pleasures of the world
And abstain from evil deeds
But provide only for their own peace,
Are called a mediocre person.

“Those who seriously want to dispel
All the misery of others
Because, in the stream of their own being, they have understood the nature of misery,
Are an excellent person.”

The Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism has nine yanas, a list made by combining the first three yanas, and adding the six classes of tantras:

Hīnayāna
Śrāvakayāna
Pratyekabuddhayāna
Mahāyāna consisting of:
Bodhisattvayāna
Vajrayāna, consisting of:
Outer Tantras
Kriyatantra
Upatantra
Yogatantr
Inner Tantras
Mahāyoga
Anuyoga
Atiyoga (Dzogchen)

The head of the Nyingma school, Dudjom Rinpoche, emphasises that the eight lower vehicles are intellectually fabricated and contrived:

“The eight lower levels have been intellectually fabricated and contrived due to fleeting thoughts that never experience what truly is.

“They apply antidotes to and reject that which is not to be rejected.

“They refer to as flawed that in which there is nothing to be purified, with a mind that desires purification.

“They have created division with respect to that which cannot be obtained by their hopes and fears that it can be obtained elsewhere.

“And they have obscured wisdom, which is naturally present, by their efforts in respect to that which is free from effort and free from needing to be accomplished.

“Therefore, they have had no chance to make contact with genuine, ultimate reality as it is.”

Misunderstanding is the reason why there is evil in the world.

HOW THE WORLD WAS WON

How The World Was Won

The world was won through belief, giving people something plausible – deserving applause or approval to keep them ‘happy’. A common trick of the magician.

Plausible: an argument or statement seeming reasonable or probable, producing persuasive arguments, especially ones intended to deceive. ORIGIN mid 16th century (also in the sense ‘deserving applause or approval’).

There are two views of life; to believe, and to know.

Belief is prevalent when people are made poor in wealth and spirit, with a the feeling of never having enough. Through fear, we grasp at anything for a sense of hope. This longing keeps us in a dream state of illusions, which is ignorance.

First-hand experience is knowing. In absolute terms, truth is pure knowingness, which is the timeless presence of pure consciousness. This knowledge awakens us from the dream state, a rare event in the age of distractions.

Belief ‘can’ lead us to enlightenment, but we usually remain in hell.

Don’t let anyone tell you
there are things
you should not know.

THE QUALITIES OF A GOOD DHARMA STUDENT

The Qualities Of A Good Dharma Student

The qualities of a good Dharma student:
Not believing truth, but realising truth.
Not believing in compassion, but manifesting compassion.
Being able to let go of realisation and compassion.

We ascend the levels by letting go of our attachment.

WHAT IS RIGHT?

What Is Right?

‘Right’ comes from the word for straight line, not crooked. In other words, direct, without deviating.

Right: Old English, related to Latin rectus ‘ruled’, from an Indo-European root denoting movement in a straight line.

Once we know what is right or direct, we know when a deviation occurs. The only undeviating right is pure consciousness; it is direct seeing, before it is bent by interpretation. In the first instant of seeing, which is pure consciousness, we are all right – happy!

But then, we try to interpret ourselves, creating ideas, beliefs and assumptions, and so we deviate from just seeing. In knowing what is right, confidence arises, and we have no need to argue with others’ interpretations.

Right seeing is recognising that our right life is our right karma on the right path to enlightenment.

THE LAMP THAT DISPELS DARKNESS

The Lamp That Dispels Darkness

The moment we (pure consciousness) recognise the mind dwelling in a vacant state or preoccupied with memories is the pure light of consciousness. The lamp that dispels darkness.

All self-obsession, fears and hopes are vanquished. Empathetic compassion arises for those who do not see the light of clarity, and still dwell in the figments of their imagination.

There is no true happiness in self-obsession.
There is no self-obsession in the clarity of light.

The more we understand the cause of darkness, the more the light stays on.
Therefore, darkness is our guide.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DZOGCHEN AND BELIEF

The Difference Between Dzogchen And Belief

Dzogchen is direct seeing – pure consciousness – non-duality.
Belief is relating – through the mind – duality.

This is why the Buddha said, “Do not take my word for truth; test it for yourself.”

Dzogchen is esoteric – direct.
Belief is – indirect.

The choice is seeing directly or seeing through another’s eyes. We all start in belief because of our environment, but then we may become dissatisfied and start our journey, ascending the levels of personal realisation. As it’s a personal journey, there is no need for proselytising in an attempt to  convert others.

To understand and realise Dzogchen or Rigpa, one needs the “pointing out instruction into the nature of consciousness.” It has been given many times on this blog.

Esoteric: understood by a few with specialised knowledge or interest.
Exoteric: understood by the general public.

FIXATION DIVIDES PEOPLE

Fixation Divides People

Religion divides people.
Politics divides people.
Thinking divides people.
Self divides people.

So what unites people?

Unity is what we are – when we let go of our fixations.
The mind cannot unite people as we all think differently, and this is revealed in our words.
It is pure consciousness, present before the mind reveals its words, which unites.

When the ultimate truth of pure consciousness is realised, all fixations that distract serve as a reminder that they are being observed. That is the absolute unity, like a mirror and its reflection: mind is the reflection, while pure consciousness is the mirror.

If we fixate on the reflection (ideas and beliefs), we live in a dark confusion and cannot understand the source of clarity, which is pure consciousness beyond words. Consciousness is not created and does not create – it observes.

Pure consciousness comes first for, without this clarity, we wouldn’t see our thoughts, fixations, beliefs and self in action.

We do not have consciousness;
we are consciousness.

It is not something constructed.
It is eternal.

Fixation obscures clarity and causes division.
Clarity ends fixation and division.

GOD AND PURE CONSCIOUSNESS

God And Pure Consciousness

It is said that God created … once.
Pure consciousness does not create, but minds create all the time.

To know anything – including God (external) –
there has to be consciousness (internal) present.

Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?
Did God create consciousness?
Consciousness does not create, but mind does.
Consciousness doesn’t believe anything, but mind does.

Consciousness is pure being.
God is being a creator.
If God is pure being, why create?

The mind can create figments of imagination,
when it does not know its essence of pure consciousness.

If we are saying that
God is pure consciousness, and we are pure consciousness,
there is nothing to believe in,
and no disagreement.

If we are saying that mind created God,
that would change human history,
and lead us into a very dark place of confusion and division.

Look at the world now …

WHY ARE WE SO OBEDIENT?

Why Are We So Obedient?

We have been encoded and converted into a programme, which accounts for our behaviour.

The feudal system was created in Europe around the 9th century. It was a class system, based on a ruler, an inner circle of land owners, and a military to protect them; it cast everyone into servitude at some level.

The nobility, the clergy, and the peasantry were all bound by a system of manorialism, which is a political, economic and social system by which the peasants of medieval Europe (and other countries) were rendered dependent on their land and on their lord. This is referred to as a “feudal society”.

It was a way of structuring society around relationships that were derived from the holding of land in exchange for service or labour. The classic definition describes a set of reciprocal legal and military obligations which existed among the warrior nobility, and revolved around the three key concepts of lords, vassals, and fiefs.

Vassals: a holder of land by feudal tenure on conditions of homage and allegiance; a subordinate position to another
Fiefan estate of land, especially one held on condition of feudal service; a fee. A person’s sphere of operation or control.

This is the forerunner of taxation.

Why do we obey, believe and accept what we are told so easily? We inherited the idea of ‘knowing our place’.

We lack confidence in our own judgements because we don’t have the complete picture of our true reality. Lacking confidence in our potential as we gave our power away, we became reliant on others. Those whom we obey have a picture of their reality and feel entitled, believing the weak serve the strong.

Feeling we have no power, we remain subservient. When we realise our true reality of pure consciousness, our true power of wisdom is revealed.

All humans have the capacity for wisdom,
but also the capacity for cruelty.

Cruelty is not caring about others,
having no concern for their welfare
because our ‘belief’ comes first.

Wisdom is knowing and understanding our true reality
– that we are all equal in pure consciousness –
which is the power and strength of compassion.

In truth, the strong serve the weak.

HOW MANY HAVE BEEN ENLIGHTENED IN THE PAST 100 YEARS?

How Many Been Enlightened In The Past 100 years?

I mean super-duper enlightened, and not just repeating good words.

What if enlightenment wasn’t super-duper, but just a realisation of our essential reality that is pure consciousness obscured by attraction, repulsion and indifference? How many super-duper-miracles-of-old have there been recently? We live on very old stories from books, which people and organisations have then translated and commented on. Maybe it’s all Chinese whispers, where we hear – or mishear – something without experiencing, and pass this on to the next person, and so on; it all becomes more exaggerated … and more holy. It could happen … it’s called rumour and gossip, and causes harm.

When I first had personal interviews with Tibetan lamas, I used to ask, “Should I prostrate to you?” Where did I get that idea from? Why do we bow when passing a shrine? So much is hear-say and hear-do. Respect is one thing, but worshipful display that was meant to counteract our pride now actually displays it. It’s all monkey-see, monkey-do.

Thinking that enlightenment is super-duper, we live in hope of something unattainable, and so we’re never good enough; we feel poverty-stricken, when all round us, people are fawning. I’ve done some daft things that counteracted genuine experience.

What if enlightenment was simply knowing what we are, and whatever obscures this knowingness? In this way, we can easily live a happier life, not dependent on memories from days of old.

Do we have to sit in meditation for six years, non-stop?

Meditation is a tool:
when we don’t need it, we put it down.

SMART METERS, SMART PHONES, SMART MONEY, SMART CARS, SMART ROADS …

Smart Meters, Smart Phones, Smart Money, Smart Cars, Smart Roads …

Do you get the feeling we are being smarted?
🙂
Smart: a  programmed device, capable of some independent action. Also means a sharp pain.

Ever feel that the walls are closing in … fast?
Or is it all ‘for our convenience’?
Or are we to become even more dependent?

Who’s making up these rules?

WHAT CAUSES OUR REACTIONS?

What Causes Our Reactions?

Reaction: done again.

If we do not understand the cause of our doing-it-again, we become fixed in our ways of thinking. Why is this so important to understand? Even if we do not know what causes our reactions, others do, and take advantage of this information. There is a psychology out there that can instigate and perpetuate our reactions – when we think we are thinking for ourselves. It is based on our personal likes and dislikes. When we’re indifferent to the cause of our reactions, we can then be swayed one way or another, as our indifference or ignorance is noted.

Such manipulation is deep-rooted, and means that we don’t notice this theme running throughout our history.

Psychology is so refined that we can be made to believe black is white and white is black, that good people are bad and bad people are good, that boys can be girls and girls can be boys, that left is right and right is left. As long as we believe in something – anything – we are caught and held in purgatory, being purged of realising our true nature of pure consciousness and wisdom. It’s the opposite of what we think ‘purifying’ is.

Our minds are constantly being prepared for future discord. Psychologists know about brand awareness, where the brain lights up when presented with an image, before we are even aware of it (and most people haven’t a clue what is happening to them). All uniforms and robes create brand awareness, where we automatically become humble, subservient and worshipful.

What causes our reactions?
Identity.

Togal is realising the spectral appearances in the mind;
it is the gap of sanity seeing through the mind’s illusions.

A reaction to an illusion is the magician’s trade marK.

Mark: a target, a person who is easily deceived or taken advantage of

Whatever you think is happening,
consider the opposite.

MISUNDERSTANDING LEADS TO SPECULTATION

Misunderstanding Leads To Speculation

An unenlightened society is, by definition, corrupt.

Misunderstanding leads to speculation and, unfortunately, on to arrogance and narcissism. This is what narcissists do: they constantly move the goalposts and nitpick, maintaining a lack of empathy to ensure that they have every reason to be perpetually dissatisfied with you, or with their life.

They will declare, “Life’s a mystery!” quoting ‘-isms’, which means ‘taking a side with’ or ‘an imitation of’, and is often used to describe philosophies, theories, religions, social and artistic movements and behaviours, in many cases with a grandiose narrative.

Believing in some -ism means accepting without proof. Even Buddhists can do that. 🙂 When a narcissist moves the goal posts, they constantly shift and redefine expectations so that they can never be met. It’s a tactic of manipulation, and a form of gaslighting where others are made to feel worthless. Even spiritual teachers can do that. 🙂

Academic speculation is dry knowledge. We may read something that sounds wonderful, but it doesn’t mean we that realise it personally; it just adds to our speculations, which is a form of gambling, in the hope of gain.

Understanding is a powerful faculty of abstract thought, being sympathetically aware of other people’s feelings and how they came about. This faculty may be used for good or evil – a constant dilemma for human beings.

CONFIDENT WITH DEMONS

Confident With Demons

Demons are our own likes and dislikes that are activated when we are presented with what we do or don’t like. Even the Buddha was presented with this dilemma before enlightenment.

The internet has fascinating attractions to activate our demons. We sit there enraged and fuming about the latest topic, so dropping it isn’t easy while we are full-of-it.

Suddenly, we get it –
our reactions are what they want.

Confidence arises when we realise this, and we stop reacting. It’s the same as dealing with any narcissist; narcissists have no empathy and want to be on top – they literally do not care.

Time is irrelevant to evil minds. They pass on the baton religiously, creating opportunities with the help of our gullibility and lack of reasoning. If our path is to enlightenment, we have to acknowledge that there is evil in the world. Once we understand this and stop complaining, we can have empathy for their misunderstanding of reality.

When they know that they can no longer get to us, they move on to someone more susceptible. Demonic minds are not going to suddenly stop, as long as there are unenlightened sentient beings.

As long as we dwell in the relative world, we want to do something about misunderstanding and injustice. From an absolute viewpoint, we remain in compassionate solitude.

THE RADICALISATION OF THE MIND

The Radicalisation Of the Mind

Radical: change relating to the fundamental nature of something; far-reaching or thorough.

The mind is a faculty which perceives through the senses and store information, observed by unadulterated consciousness. That is what we are – pure consciousness. This is our normality. Through persistent misinformation about our reality, however, our minds are stimulated, and we become radicalised; consciousness adopts a persona, a self, a behaviour.

Unadulterated consciousness is like a baby, innocent but learning to cling to toys (ideas) by believing them to be real, and so consciousness wears a self-identity.

We become radicalised through fashion.

Fashion – ‘to make happen’ – creates excitement, and then fashion – ‘to make happen’ – changes. What we were told was good now becomes bad, and what we were told was bad is now good, thus confusing and dividing society. For example, sexualisation can be moulded/fashioned to excite, and is then demonised.

The vulnerable are left hanging in confusion.
The do-gooders point the finger.
The fashion-makers bank their winnings and gain more power.
The fashioners and influencers radicalise the common mind.

We all become caught up in radicalisation and are swayed to go one way, to then be driven another. This creates zealots and victims, and both inflict deep wounds.

Being human means being easily addicted to belief because we lack clarity of reality. We learn songs in childhood that pledge allegiance to country and religion, building a foundation for future confusion.

All this either keeps us busy as we become involved, or sends us to sleep with a feeling that it’s “nothing to do with me”. Either way, it turns our attention away from our true reality.

This is world history, and about as enlightening as gaily-coloured carousel, going up and down and round and round, while we fail to notice that we can get off at any time.

ALWAYS CONSIDER THE OPPOSITE

Always Consider The Opposite

Consider: there is no such thing as pure consciousness.

What are we left with?
Impure consciousness or impure awareness.

In that case, we would perceive everything
as confused or muddled.

If we see the world as muddled,
how do we know this?
🙂

Truth stands to reason.

THE ATTAINABLE CHASING THE UNATTAINABLE

The Attainable Chasing The Unattainable

This is the dilemma we are in: there is an ever-present consciousness using the mind to find consciousness. It’s what intellectuals try to do, and they can never come to a conclusion. We are consciousness, uncontaminated by thoughts, while the mind is our tool to express either wisdom or stupidity.

Pure consciousness is perfect satisfaction through understanding, while the mind is perfect dissatisfaction through misunderstanding. Misunderstanding leads to speculation and, unfortunately, more confusion. We don’t realise our simple, natural state of spontaneity and instead, chase an illusion of the attainable, thus making it unattainable.

The purity of consciousness is attainable
through realisation.

Because the purity of consciousness is not recognised,
consciousness attaches to a confused mind
which chases after an illusion of the attainable,
rather than recognising and resting in its natural essence.

TOGAL

Togal

Leaping over

The word ‘Togal’ seems to imply something mysterious, but it’s not. It all depends on the way something is translated; don’t be misled by words.

Togal has been described as ‘visions’ which seems quite complicated (I have text on this matter) but it has to be far simpler as it’s one of the two wings of rigpa (pure consciousness), the other being Trekcho – cutting through. In Trekcho, the moment we notice a thought or emotion about to arise, we cut it at its root, which stops it developing into an emotional display. This needs conscious effort.

Togal is naturally leaping over any appearances. The idea of having visions is nonsense, as this would be identifying – and identifying with – whatever appears. It cannot be that. People do dark retreats, and visions are said to arise; these could be analogous to the death or bardo experience.

There are bardos – gaps or moments in between – in everyday life. When something arises in the mind, it arises within the gap of emptiness. When, through training and experience, this is recognised, we naturally leap over the appearance (emotion) without effort; appearances are illusions within the gap, and nothing to be afraid of. We maintain inner peace and, in this way, we are no longer disturbed by death, or by life.

Is there anything clearer than this?
