WORDS OBSCURE EXPERIENCE

Words Obscure Experience

When we learn and repeat words, we ignore what we actually experience, and enter a world of what someone said. This can cause confusion as the true experience of reality is beyond words.

The real guru is our mind’s reactions to our circumstances now, showing us (consciousness) where we are being distracted and obsessed.

When words govern our mind, genuine experience is censored.
Genuine, personal, pure experience is free from words.

In this way, we do not ignore our humanity.

MANTRAS ARE HANDY

Mantras Are Handy

If we cannot stabilise our mind because it’s full of thoughts which we can’t drop, there is a method to help. A mantra is a word or phrase that we repeat; we cannot think of two things at the same time, so it is helpful to focus on one thing—the mantra. This is if meditation on the breath isn’t working so well, and anyway, a change of practice is beneficial. 🙂

The mantra RAM (pronounced ‘rahm’) is one such mantra.

Sit upright, chin slightly in, so that the backbone is straight and we’re not slouching. Repeat the mantra slowly and regularly for, say, 10 or 20 minutes; we need to take time to calm down and relax.* See if it works. Notice the difference: when you stop and rest for a few moments, that gap of nothingness or emptiness is the real thing – pure consciousness.

The more we practise, the more familiar we become with our true nature of clarity, and the less we’re wound up. 🙂

.

..

* NB: if thoughts seem to be getting stronger, it means we’re noticing more, which is a good sign.

THIS WORLD IS A WIND-UP MACHINE

This World Is A Wind-Up Machine

It winds us up, and watches us go, just like a toy.

This world is a wind-up machine, irritating us at every opportunity. 🙂 When we’re wound-up, we become tense and stressed, as words cause friction.

To undo this wind-up mechanism, we have to loosen the spring—the mind. Our problem is that we are used to being up-tight and uncomfortable, and think it’s normal. This is why we meditate regularly, every day. We relax and unwind.

If we see in the right way, irritations become our teacher. Through meditation, we refuse to be wound-up, being nobody’s toy. Be warned: meditators can be irritating. 😀

TRUTH WILL ALWAYS BE SUPPRESSED

Truth Will Always Be Suppressed

If people knew the truth, they could no long be controlled by belief.

Once a person knows the truth of reality, they are free of beliefs provided by others. As long as people believe in an agenda—’things to do’—they will never become whole, right, at peace.

We are here to realise what we truly are—the spirit of pure awareness—rather than what we are told we are—a consumer of others’ ideas. For this realisation, we need personal time and space to deepen our contemplation and meditation; anything else is surplus to requirements.

Stupidity is thinking we’re can to read or hear the truth, and then we’ll know it. This is an extremely subtle subterfuge in order to achieve the goal of suppressing the truth. We can be so near, but so far.

Meditation is free of all concepts.
Meditation is just being aware.
—not aware of something or other, just aware.

It’s so simple, but we are so easily distracted.

“I CAN’T FIND THE ULTIMATE TRUTH WITHIN.”

I Can’t Find The Ultimate Truth Within”

“I can’t find the ultimate truth within.”
The ultimate truth is that which is looking out.
“What good does that do me?”

The truth within is clarity which, in the dictionary, is divine splendour. That should give us a clue to its value.

We are so enamoured with the physical world that we do not experience what it is that has fallen in love with things, inventions, art, music … ideas. These things captivate and confine our understanding, and much time and money is spent to keep these industries going. Why do you think that is?

The modern world is full of contraptions that we use and worship, but which are, in truth, just more distraction. The ultimate truth within is pure consciousness that needs no inventions.

When truth within is realised, then we have no problems with untruth, the misunderstanding of reality.

If we do not know someone is a thief, a liar or a narcissist,
we have a problem.

When we know some is a thief, liar or a narcissist,
we don’t have a problem—we are prepared.

WHAT ARE ‘ESOTERIC’ AND ‘EXOTERIC’?

What Are ‘Esoteric’ And ‘Exoteric’?

The esoteric is understood by the few who are practiced.
The exoteric is understood by the many who do not practice.

The esoteric is pure experience of pure awareness.
The exoteric is knowing about pure experience of pure awareness.

The esoteric does not argue.
The exoteric does nothing but argue.

When we know, we just know.
When we know about, we interpret.

The esoteric cannot be calculated.
The exoteric is all about calculating.

Self or I is the construct of a mind associating with ideas.
Pure awareness comes before the mind starts associating with ideas.

These are two opposite worlds.
For the esoteric, they are a unity, because there is no time delay between appearances and awareness, and so no self to infer or interpret.

For the exoteric, it is the cause of confusion, conflict and suffering, with time to refer to memories and interpret, maintaining the apparent continuity of a self.

WE ARE NOTHING SPECIAL

We Are Nothing Special

We do not have to be special to realise our true reality of pure consciousness. It may not seem that way because of all the elaborate displays we see and all the stories we hear, but it’s just a matter of consciousness (which is what we are) realising that there is no other reality. Reality is that which can never change.

People run around the world looking for artefacts and old scriptures, when the ultimate truth has always been within sentient beings – we are the artefacts and the texts :-). Our true reality is so simple that it’s too boring for most people, as they have learnt to love the elaborate displays, and to repeat the wonderful stories.

Our timeless problem is that are excited by wonder; we love intrigue, arousing the curiosity, interest and fascination that Mara supplies in abundance.

Intrigue: early 17th century, ‘to deceive, to cheat’): from French ‘intriguer’ – to tangle, to plot, to puzzle, make curious.

Rather than believing in the enchantments conjured up for us.
life is simply to realise what we are.

It’s nice being no body.

IF WE THINK IT DOESN’T MATTER

If We Think It Doesn’t Matter…

If we think it doesn’t matter,
then life doesn’t matter.

Life is what we are, which is consciousness.
Life isn’t what we do.
If we don’t appreciate this, we will have a few interests, grow old, become ill and die.

When we actually realise that we are, in fact, consciousness, our life—and the meaning of life—changes. This doesn’t mean doing things ‘consciously’; that merely makes a beautiful samsara, seeking happiness but never being quite satisfied.

We meditate, falling silent and becoming watchful.
We stop all the mental comings and goings of thoughts.
We then realise that there is nothing else happening but pure watchfulness, and then we get it.
We are pure consciousness.

That is our absolute nature, and the ultimate truth of the universe. Once we know this truth, we also know what is not truth—the assumptions, the mistakes, the lies.

It matters because no one can ever pull the wool over our eyes again. Plus we have compassionate understanding for those who think this doesn’t matter, as we too were like that. Something always happens in a timely way to wake us up. The practice is staying awake. 🙂

LIVING OUTSIDE THE BOX

Living Outside The Box

Living outside the box, we are constantly shocked
that anyone would want to live inside the box
– a construct of the hive mind.

The hive mentality, also known as groupthink, relies on mass decision-making. Others’ say-so. Being part of a group, we may feel invulnerable and morally correct, but this is precisely because we are vulnerable. Hive minds are unable to make decisions on their own, so they can never know originality. Who’d want to fit into that? 🙂

Not fitting in and feeling depressed about it, we should celebrate. We’ve started our path to conscious liberation. Living outside the hive of activity, we watch; we can’t stop the busy bees doing what they do.

THE PULL OF THE WORLD

The Pull Of The World

The pull of the world creates our behaviour, and the circumstances in which we live. Are we a facsimile of others’ ideas, or are we original? Are we wise in our understanding, or are we a type? The measure of a person isn’t in what they know; the measure of a person is their actions, reactions and non-actions.

It is our reactions that tell us everything about our self, our persona, our mask. This mask is constructed from social traumas. We may think we’re clever people, but how do we respond? Are we wise in our understanding, or do we leave that to others? When we look back on our life, do we have wise understanding of how situations came about?

How do we become original?
By realising our very essence of pure consciousness.

We don’t have to be clever; we are just what we are, rather than someone else’s version of us.

When painting a picture, do we want a perfect photographic copy, or a skilful but spontaneous representation?

The same goes for the Dharma; do we want a masterly photographic memory, or direct, practical experience?

The pull of the world is the tension we feel
– which reminds us to let go.

UNENLIGHTENED RULERS RULING THE UNENLIGHTENED

Unenlightened Rulers Ruling The Unenlightened

It must be obvious by now.

This planet is ruled by the unenlightened for the unenlightened. The unenlightened only think they know what they’re doing. Our minds are full of memories of misinformation which give rise to our emotional reactions.

Enlightenment is knowing what we are—pure consciousness—having eliminated all those emotional reactions.

It’s simple, but not easy, as every moment counts.

Are we progressing – becoming more stable? Are we treading water – appearing to be stable? Or do we have no stability at all, being oblivious to why we think the way we think?

We may not know what we are, or why we are the way we are,
but we know we are ruled by memories.

That should be obvious by now.

ORDINARY CONSCIOUSNESS AND PURE CONSCIOUSNESS

Ordinary Consciousness And Pure Consciousness

Ordinary or common consciousness is what all sentient beings are. We find things to eat, look for interesting things to play with, and sleep. We use our mind of memories to interpret all that we experience, which keeps us in a continuum of ignorance and forgetfulness, oblivious to our reality.

As pure consciousness, we know what we are, no longer attached to memories which maintain the illusion of reality. We understand the need to stabilise awareness of inner peace, the fast track to enlightenment.

Ordinary consciousness relates everything to me and mine (relate: from Latin relat-‘brought back’).
Pure consciousness is unconditional awareness.

Ordinary consciousness is exoteric; it relates to everything = twoness.
Pure consciousness is esoteric; it is direct experience with everything = oneness.

THE ANATOMY OF CONFUSION

The Anatomy Of Confusion

Confusion is believing in opposites when, in reality, positive and negative are inseparable as they are a continuity. By virtue of one, the other is known, as in a mirror and its reflection, or dark and light.

Seeing everything in terms of opposites, confused conversations take the form of “Yes, it is!” “No, it isn’t!”. Both positions become fixated, adding to further confusion and conflict.

If we do not just see, but instead hold on to one idea, we become obsessed. The truth is that we must see all sides at the same time; it is the seeing that is the arbiter of any situation.

Dropping our view—our interpretation—and just seeing is the view, the pure view. When doing a drawing from nature, we use both the negative and positive areas to keep everything in proportion. Note: the line we draw is the same line.

Whatever our view, pure observation through the senses is the same, picked up by pure consciousness. In that, there is no confusion.

Confusion must, at some time, dawn as wisdom.

A PROBLEM WITH TALKING TO PEOPLE

A Problem With Talking To People

It’s just Chinese whispers … pass it on.

Chinese whispers (pass it on) is a situation in which a piece of information is passed from one person to the next, and is changed slightly each time it’s told. We enable evil through careless talk.

Our major problem is that we cannot listen. We hear sounds and catch a word or two, and then halfway through a sentence, we’ve already jumped into our mind – our reference library. It is from the mind that we judge and react … re-enact … and add a bit to make it sound as if it’s original.

As long as people do not know how their mind works, we cannot rely on their evaluations. People thrive on intrigue and tittle-tattle, and are fascinated by ‘secrets’ that simply hypnotise like the Manchurian Candidate, brainwashed and triggered by certain words.

When we stop being an automata,
we are in no-man’s-land
– which is outside the box and a good place to be –
to start our path to realise freedom.

DON’T BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Don’t Believe In Yourself

Don’t believe in yourself ; know it.

Know your self to be your private dictator, which condemns you to a fixed way of life.

Who or what is it that wants to be free? Consciousness wants to be liberated from those autocratic, domineering thoughts in the mind. When consciousness is free of contamination, it is pure.

Just look and see, and drop all notions, which are concepts or beliefs about something.

FREEDOM OF THOUGHT

Freedom Of Thought

Freedom of thought is only possible when our mind is free of previous concepts. Conversations are repetitions of others’ thoughts, and thoughts are only words and images of something already perceived.

So how do we think in an original way?

We realise that thinking has its limitations, as we just go round in word circles. Thinking outside the box, however, is pure observation where no thought is necessary.

Pure observation is pure consciousness, pure awareness, which the thinking mind can never understand. When a red car goes by, we don’t have to think that is a red car … we already know it. That is being free of thought and judgement as the senses are non-conceptual.

When a person speaks, we automatically know whether to trust them or not, by the sound and gestures beyond the words. Are they looking into our eyes, or reading the script from their mind’s projections?

Freedom from thought is divine splendour – clarity.

BEING JUDGEMENTAL IS A DIS-EASE

Being Judgemental Is A Dis-ease

Being judgemental is a addiction, as we’re ill-at-ease all the time with our liking and disliking. As long as we are judgemental (which is a way of life) as opposed to merely responding to the moment, we condemn ourselves to a life of misery.

How do we get out of this doldrum, this depression?

We merely see what we are doing to ourselves, and to those around us. The whole point of life is to find a positive approach, and this means understanding how things come about – the causes and effects. Nothing just happens; everything needs the right conditions due to the laws of attraction and repulsion.

Who made these laws?
Things move in infinite, timeless space, and come into contact with something else. Why did the things move in the first place? They were ‘hit’ by something else – it’s one long, timeless continuum. All we can know is that it’s happening now. There is no first cause; all we see is effects.

PURE CONSCIOUSNESS, CONSCIOUSNESS AND MIND

Pure Consciousness, Consciousness and Mind

ii

Look at the two i’s.
We notice that they are not the same. That is consciousness at work. Consciousness starts to analyse with the mind, and realises that they are two different typefaces. It is consciousness that just sees the difference, but mind refers and relates one to the other, maybe even deciding that we prefer one to the other. Our life is like that.

So where is pure consciousness?
Just present, unconcerned about the differences, but aware of change.

NOT SEEING THE FOREST FOR THE TREES

Not Seeing The Forest For The Trees

This is exactly our problem.

Not seeing the forest for the trees is not seeing or acknowledging that consciousness comes first, before our thoughts in the mind. It’s valuing what’s written over what we actually experience spontaneously. Our perception is misled by words.

When we become fixated on our thoughts—which are merely words in the mind—we ignore that which sees the thoughts. Believing that thoughts are more real than conscious observation leads to a deluded, make-believe existence.

This is why the world is in the state it’s in, as everything is based on ideas, beliefs and interpretations. The one thing that beings have in common is plain, simple consciousness, but precisely because this is common and plain, we ignore it for superficialities and opinions. Basically, we like stories, and adding to them makes them even more believable.

.

.

.

An example from Carl Sagan:

“A Fire-Breathing Dragon Lives In My Garage”.

Suppose I seriously make such an assertion to you. Surely you’d want to check it out, see for yourself. There have been innumerable stories of dragons over the centuries, but no real evidence. What an opportunity!

“Show me,” you say. I lead you to my garage. You look inside and see a ladder, empty paint cans, an old tricycle — but no dragon.

“Where’s the dragon?” you ask.

“Oh, she’s right here,” I reply, waving vaguely. “I neglected to mention that she’s an invisible dragon.”

You propose spreading flour on the floor of the garage to capture the dragon’s footprints.

“Good idea,” I say, “but this dragon floats in the air.”

Then you’ll use an infrared sensor to detect the invisible fire.

“Good idea, but the invisible fire is also heatless.”

You’ll spray-paint the dragon and make her visible.

“Good idea, but she’s an incorporeal dragon and the paint won’t stick.”

And so on. I counter every physical test you propose with a special explanation of why it won’t work.

Now, what’s the difference between an invisible, incorporeal, floating dragon who spits heatless fire and no dragon at all? If there’s no way to disprove my contention, no conceivable experiment that would count against it, what does it mean to say that my dragon exists?

Your inability to invalidate my hypothesis is not at all the same thing as proving it true. Claims that cannot be tested—assertions immune to disproof—are veridically worthless, whatever value they may have in inspiring us or in exciting our sense of wonder. What I’m asking you to do comes down to believing, in the absence of evidence, my say-so.

CONNECTING WITH OTHERS

Connecting With Others

Connecting with like-minded people is rare. Why? Too much fear. Through fear of change, fear of not knowing it all, we’ve gone a little skew-whiff. We cannot blame people for not knowing what they are–or even wanting to know–as there is so much disinformation out there to entertain and fill our minds.

Being receptive in a meaningful way without being dogmatic is right motivation.

When people think they are their mind, there can be no meeting of minds. A meeting of minds is a meeting of the essence of mind; pure consciousness. Pure consciousness is divine splendour of connection. Its rarity makes it special.

Skew-whiff: From skew +‎ weft. The expression ‘skew weft’ dates from the 18th century as a term used by handloom weavers, originally to describe fabric which was out of alignment.

MORE CHOICE, MORE FREEDOM

More Choice, More Freedom

The more choice we have, the freer we are. If we’re a ‘one trick pony’, we repeat the same old act, as we’re a person who knows how to do one thing, and one thing only. We’re not a ‘jack of all trades’.

The phrase, ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’, is often quoted as a derogatory remark to put others down. What a deluded world we live in! They never give the full quotation – do they fear a challenge?

The complete quotation, attributed to William Shakespeare, is, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”  So this saying, which was originally meant to be a compliment, was turned into an insult.

Beware the world in which we live.

EVERYTHING, EVERYONE – INCLUDING MEDITATION – IS OUR TEACHER

Everything, Everyone – Including – Is Our Teacher

Everything that we encounter tells us something, by creating a response in our mind that affects our behaviour. That moment either adds to the continuum of habitual reactions, or opens up the situation to a fresh touch. That moment is telling us all we need to know about our self and the encounter, the trigger.

We can either be trigger-happy, or just happy. 🙂

Meditation is our teacher because now we have an open space to clearly see what we are doing. Is the mind open, distracted or vacant?

This is how we learn, and not through a book.
This is how intuition and insight are developed.

Captivated by skilful artists-magicians-politicians-entertainers … we become expertly lazy, dependent, dull and weak.

Those ruling humanity thrive on this arrangement, while pundits hog the microphones and divert all meaningful conversation. These ‘learned’ people are also cherished. 😀

Those who try to tell the truth about reality are slandered, shunned, or worse. Getting the message across about absolute truth will take generations. The Buddha knew this.

As evil thinks longterm, so should we.
Sudden change is only for those who make effortless effort.

Effortless effort is seeing without expectations.

CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

Crimes Against Humanity

Crimes against humanity have been going on for thousands of years. It’s the Mara effect of manipulating the laws which govern all unenlightened beings: attraction, repulsion and indifference.

Our behaviour, on a gross level, is governed by these principles that create our emotions. The rulers of the world have been playing with this formula at every opportunity.

The crime is making us believe anything but the truth. Why? When you’re very wealthy and have power, you want to stay wealthy and powerful, and will use any means to do so. To achieve this, empathy is completely absent, obliterated to keep never-ending chaos and confusion. This is obvious in people’s reactions.

A lie must have a element of truth in it to be plausible. Mara does not want humanity to truly wake up; it wants us only to believe we are awake.

But here is the twist; as Mara is racing ahead with its plans, it is over-stretching itself, and ‘project fear’ becomes all too obvious.

The light that dispels darkness realises that we are in a state of constant vacancy, being undecided and not knowing. It is the very moment when we see that we are confused that we actually do wake up.

The practice is staying awake, which eliminates being locked up inside in the mind.
May confusion dawn as wisdom.

TRANSPARENCY AND OPACITY

Transparency And Opacity

Seeing through a clear glass,
or seeing through a glass darkly.

Our minds have been made opaque by relying on others’ facts and names, rather than the transparency and clarity of our own intuitive natural state, before facts and names even come about.

In our usual way of seeing and thinking, we take sides because we see sides. Transparency is seeing all sides at the same time.

An example: two people arguing – there is an argument. If one of them didn’t argue, there would be no argument – there would just be listening.

INTELLIGENCE AND CONSCIOUSNESS

Intelligence And Consciousness

Intelligence solves problems; consciousness sees the problem.

If consciousness does not see the problem, the problem cannot be solved. Consciousness is not about feelings; those are a mental issue.

The clearer consciousness is, the more intelligence can be applied. When ‘expert’ philosophers and psychologists talk about problems, they are referring to a physical and mental world, and usually end up creating more problems.

Pure consciousness is happiness that needs no solution.
As long as ‘experts’ say that there are problems, we think there are problems.

In intelligence, we are always looking out.
Resting in consciousness,
we realise that we are where there are no problems.

Deciding that all problems are physical and mental affairs, we simplify life to have time and space to contemplate and meditate, thus eliminating the problem-child of our intellectual self.

CONSCIOUSNESS ISN’T AN ILLUSION

Consciousness Isn’t An Illusion

An illusion is a misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience.
Illusion: From Latin illudere ‘to mock’, from in- ‘against’ + ludere ‘play’.

Consciousness does not change, but everything else is changeable, and up for interpretation. When people deny that we are consciousness in favour of identifying with misinterpreted perception, they are lying.

No one can create consciousness as it’s what we are; it is neither born nor does it die – but this can be misinterpreted as being an illusion. Once we realise this, no one can ever pull the wool over our eyes again.

“You can fool all the people some of the time,
and some of the people all the time,
but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
-Abraham Lincoln

THE INSIDIOUS SUGGESTION OF MEDITATION SICKNESS

The Insidious Suggestion Of Meditation Sickness

Symptoms of meditation sickness
One study found that the most commonly reported side effects of meditation were anxiety and depression, but here is a non-exhaustive list of what folks with meditation sickness may encounter: Unpleasant thoughts. Uncomfortable sensations. Difficult emotions.

What is zen sickness?
For the most part, ‘zen sickness’ refers to an attachment to a particular state of consciousness or awareness. Often, this is an attachment to emptiness.

What happens when meditation goes wrong?
Meditation sickness can produce symptoms such as depression, disassociation, psychotic breaks, and even physical pain.

The above are statements from the internet. Why would any mind want to suggest such things?

Meditation merely reveals these conditions which already exist in the mind. The power of meditation is to release us from mental sickness. The proponents of ‘meditation sickness’ want us to stay within emotional boundaries. That is to say … weak and dependent, and lacking emotional intelligence.

This is only one aspect of the insidious lies being used to manipulate humanity.

HUMAN ENGINEERING – HUMAN MODIFICATION

Human Engineering – Human Modification

Everything on Earth can be modified – especially our minds – and therefore, our expectations and our beliefs. This starts in our infancy with ‘sweet’, pleasing little somethings, and then we spend the rest of our lives craving that ‘sweet’ dopamine hit. We’re engineered to become addicted to anything and everything through fear and hope, with our minds accepting further suggestions which upgrade our expectations.

How often do we talk about our true reality of consciousness?
We hear sweet nothings until we die …

WHAT IS LIFE?

What Is Life?

Life is pure consciousness, embodied in a form commensurate with an individual’s mental formations that dull the purity of consciousness. Are there realms of existence outside this body? Our answer to that will depend on what have we learnt and experienced.

On our death bed, will we wish that we had been more political, seen more films, gone on more holidays, watched more football, said more mantras?

Or will we realise that things come and go, and have no true reality?

When we recognise that our only reality is pure consciousness, all futile activities drop, washing away our karmic debt.

GETTING OVER RELIGION

Getting Over Religion

Getting over religion is getting out of religious fervour,
and realising what life is all about.

Religion can be either a preparation or a prison. We first have to be in it to know it. It’s no good just criticising religion from the outside because of the way people look or sound. Religion is suitable for a certain type of person. The word ‘religion’ means to bind, but there comes a time when we have to stand on our own feet. Even the Buddha would agree with that.

There’s no talking to religious people because they’re fixed in their religions ideas, and equally, there’s no point in talking to naysayers as they also have their fixed ideas. Both claim to be factual, but they’re both extremes.

The truth of reality is in the seeing.
Anyone can do this, and they don’t have to be religious.

Reality isn’t about how we see through mental bias and fixations. Our reality is the pure seeing that has no need for words or commentaries. Once we are able to see, perceive, just be aware, anything else is a distraction. When we focus on the work in hand, pure consciousness is present.

Spiritual discovery isn’t about how high we can go;
it is a matter of clearing away the pile of mental junk
covering up pure consciousness that is here, now.

The clearer we see,
the lighter we feel.

WORDS ARE BLUNT TOOLS

Words Are Blunt Tools

The senses cannot be described; they are just experienced. The warmth of the sun, the chirping of birds, the smell of grass, the taste of our spit, the play of air on our skin … all are indescribable.

They are pure experience. There is no need for names.
That which is aware of this pure experience is also indescribable.

Words do not cut the mustard to express indescribable experience.

(When mustard plants were cut by hand with scythes, this required an extremely sharp tool; when these implements were blunt, they would not “cut the mustard”).

Words are a blunt tool.

We are errant beings, straying from the path.
“What path?”

We all follow a path of some sort – a path of dreams, nightmares or awakening. Even a path of awakening can become a path of dreams and nightmares. 🙂

We stray because we fall in love with the scent of the flowers, the warm breeze, and the exotic names of the insects; this is sentimentality.

Our personal path is our confusion about our reality, and the emotions thus created – it’s not about echoing others’ confusion. Realising the path, the path now comes to us in the form of karma, the results of previous actions which we now work with to eliminate our errant ways.

Instead of errant beings, we become errand beings
– carriers of messages, with the joy of trying to explain something important.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE BUDDHA OR GOD – OR ANYONE

Do Not Believe The Buddha Or God—Or Anyone

Belief is acceptance without proof. Accepting anything without personal experience is futile sentimentality. The only thing that anyone can say that is true is that there has to be awareness present in order to know anything.

The only things that can be proven are awareness, space and the three laws of attraction, repulsion and indifference.

The world is controlled by the creation of beliefs which fool people into thinking that they know something. This is so insidious that we give up wondering about what reality is.

There are many eloquent philosophers who are ready to indulge our minds in beliefs posing as truth.

Many believe they know what they are.
Few actually know.

NO QUESTION, NO PATH

No Question, No Path

Our path to enlightenment is our confusion that we have to clarify. A path isn’t about joining others on their path; we may rub shoulders for a while, but we go on alone. There is absolutely no point in arguing about others’ approaches – that ends up in silly talk. 😀

Our path is not about collecting answers; that is the path of hell.

Our path isn’t about intellectual speculation; it is an uncovering of all the ideas we hold on to.

In a question, there is a knowingness of not knowing, which is always present. That’s it!

The moment of knowing not knowing is pure consciousness, which is pure observation, before the nattering starts. Empty knowingness is the path to enlightenment. Enlightenment is clarifying all confusion.

Know questions, know path.
🙂

Our path is not about what so-and-so said – that’s back to silly talk.
It’s all about what we actually experience, before we become full of loquacious verbosity. 🙂

THE REAL DHARMA HAS NO FRILLY BITS

The Real Dharma Has No Frilly Bits

Keeping the Dharma real is dealing with life in its raw state, and not as it was in the past. The world is very different from 2,500 years ago, although our problems are just the same; we ignore our true reality in favour of personal likes and dislikes which feed our stupidity, and all the while we grow old, become sick, and die.

Each generation has to face a new distortion of the truth. Facing this distortion is the real Dharma at work. This distortion is merely an illusion that keeps us bound to contrived, fashionable ideas.

The moment we recognise our attachment to thrills and frills, we are free… just for a moment. Through the practice of meditation, this moment extends.

Religions has frilly bits for people to identify with so that the show goes on, but in non-dual awareness – pure awareness – there is no show, and that is such a relief.
The madness has gone. 🙂

MEDITATION IS NOT A TRANCE-LIKE STATE

Meditation Is Not A Trance-Like State

Meditation is the very opposite to being in a trance-like, hypnotic state. It is being fully conscious and aware, while a trance-like state is being lost in clouded mind of concepts that obscure pure vision.

To think otherwise is to wilfully misunderstand.
The sign of a hypnotic state is a repetition of cliches
– phrases or opinions that are overused and betray a lack of original thought.

Trance: from Old French transir -‘to depart’. A half-conscious state characterised by an absence of  response to external stimuli, typically as induced by hypnosis.

LEADING A FULFILLING LIFE

Leading A Fulfilling Life

We look around us and see angst, anxiety and oneupmanship everywhere. Why is this? People live dual lives; one is for the outer world to impress others, while the other finds this duality unfulfilling.

This isn’t a criticism – it’s how we survive, by putting ourselves in boxes. 🙂

Through the practice of meditation – letting go of all concepts – we realise we are that which is outside the box – pure consciousness which dissolves the mental construct of self importance.

We, as pure consciousness, become one with the plumbing, repairing windows, listening to others … We are not judging or over-reacting, but allowing the situation to tell us all we need to know. The result may not be perfect, but the attitude is. The inner contentment of ‘good enough’ means that we no longer have to live to the standards of others.

This will not change the world or other people; change is for them to decide. Detachment is neither accepting nor rejecting – it is merely noting.

We can lead a creative life, seeing evil as our teacher, and not our enemy. The enemy is our own clinging to ideas. 🙂

Meditation is anger management.

Bring to mind someone you dislike.
Where is the anger?

It’s all in the mind.

THE ROLE OF A TEACHER

The Role Of A Teacher

A teacher is anyone who has knowledge of a subject, and has the wisdom to express it clearly. But the authority of the teacher comes from the student, who tests to decide whether the knowledge is true or not.

It’s like any normal conversation – we are all students and teachers; “Where’s the bucket?” “Under the stairs.” If we go and look, we will know whether the other person is telling the truth or guessing. 🙂

The role of teacher may be taken on by anyone who has an encouraging attitude, rather than a dictatorial attitude towards a subject.

We all oscillate between roles throughout life; it’s how we learn, how we suck it and see. Once we know where the bucket actually is, we can then advise others to look under the stairs. The truth is in the seeing.

As the Buddha said, “Don’t take my words for the truth; test them for yourself.”

THE AUDIENCE IS THE SHOW

The Audience Is The Show

Entertainment isn’t about the production of a clever story with charismatic actors; it’s about capturing the mind of an audience. The producers watch the effect, for further productions or sequels. 🙂

As long as we are watching the show – be it political, religious, sporty, scientific, comical – we lose ourselves, and are unaware that we are even conscious as we oscillate between vacancy and occupancy.

This is how humanity is controlled, as we are encouraged to identify with a story. All media is about having an audience to spread ‘information’ – even this blog – but we have to actually be aware of what’s going on before we can deal with it and be prepared. If we see nothing to deal with, we’re merely acting out our part.

This world is all about entertainment, distracting the mind at all levels – low brow, high brow … makes no difference, as we all identify with something.

When someone gets tricked, cheated or deceived, we say that they ‘have been had’, meaning they’ve been mistreated or dealt with badly. It’s about having power over others by keeping them at a disadvantage.

If we don’t know we’re being had, we will continue paying for it.
When we know, we are free.

THE POINTING OUT INSTRUCTION INTO THE NATURE OF MIND

The Pointing Out Instruction Into the Nature of Mind

We cannot hear this enough.

When our mind isn’t thinking of anything, we fall into silent vacancy.
This is the state of not knowing, which is also called ‘undecided’ or ‘common indifference’.

When our mind is busy clinging to ideas, we fall into distraction.
This is the state of not knowing, which is also called ‘stubborn’ or ‘common opinions’.

Become aware of that which notices this.
That is non-duality: pure consciousness.
Pure consciousness is the essence of mind – empty cognisance; it’s what we are.

This is our absolute nature which is absolutely not complicated, and is free of elaborations.

It is the state of luminosity, the clear light of bliss, the divine splendour that dispels darkness.

It’s really that simple.

FACT AND FICTION

Fact And Fiction

What we usually call ‘fact’ is a designation of some thing, but as all things are impermanent and have no ultimate reality, they are a fiction – and that is a fact. 🙂 Every time we become involved in facts, we lose ourselves in fiction.

Our facts and fictions become muddled, while there is only one fact, and that is pure observation – pure consciousness – but this mind essence of pure consciousness has become filled with facts and memories, and we therefore sentence ourselves to a limited existence.

Pure consciousness merely observes the show,
and, perpetuated by ignorance of what we are,
the show goes on and on …
