THE ERASURE OF INDIVIDUAL CONSCIENCE

The Erasure Of Individual Conscience

The greatest atrocities in history aren’t committed by a few inherently monstrous individuals acting alone. They’re carried out by thousands of ordinary people who outsourced their morality to an authority figure.

When we know the value of human life – which is pure consciousness – our conscience guides our actions. But when an authority convinces us to believe that a certain group of people is a threat to the greater good, our individual conscience is deactivated. We just follow along, on one side or another.

Evil becomes bureaucratised and people commit horrific acts not because they think they’re doing evil, but because they believe they’re doing good by obeying the system. This is what philosopher Hannah Arendt famously termed, ‘the banality of evil’.

If the basis of evil is the forced engineering of dependency through blind belief, then the ultimate act of resistance is the pursuit of direct knowledge – we stop looking through others’ filters.

True knowing requires courage to stand outside the comfort of the crowd.
It’s the only path to genuine freedom and moral clarity.

Compassion is understanding why things happen.
Wisdom is the ability to apply that compassion.
