LOCKED IN THE MIND THROUGH SUGGESTION

Locked In The Mind Through Suggestion

Locked in the mind through suggestion: Middle English (in the sense of ‘an incitement to evil’).

Hypnosis is the power of suggestion. Although not necessarily evil, it can be used in this way, as in believing without proof.

We are all prisoners in our own minds – or rather, consciousness is imprisoned by a mind taken over by suggestions. It’s only when we drop all ideas and just be, that we are outside the mind’s control. Then we are free.

Whatever is happening in the world is not the prison. Events are interpreted for us as a ‘suggestion’ that incarcerates us, while allowing us to choose the lifestyle of our prison.

Suggestions capture our mind. The news is all about suggestion; information is exaggerated to attract us, making us think we know when we’ve merely adopted the ideas of others.

When we are purely aware with no attachment, we are free. It’s really that simple. Remaining open-minded in pure perception, we hear, see, smell, taste and touch, all of which are non-conceptual. That is to say, we can enjoy life with all its ups and downs, but not be attached and imprisoned by events.

If we adhere to the programming, we create our own karmic attitude. However, we all feel there is more to us than that. There is … it is pure consciousness – liberation from all suggested programming.

There are all sorts of things we’re led to believe through suggestion, but we don’t see the agenda behind events.
When we stop believing, we start knowing.

LIVING IN THE REAL WORLD

Living In The Real World

The real world is conscious awareness, rather than ideas held in the mind. Life is fruitful when we realise that we are this consciousness awareness: the reality that never changes.

We’re not puppets to have our strings pulled through a belief in stories, pictures and songs; we are here to realise what we are, which is more than just thrill-seekers. Our essence is consciousness, pure and simple while, at the same time, we function as human beings to drop our repetitive karmic attitude.

The path to enlightenment is right here, right now, but we get distracted, which causes confusion and takes us away from being open and natural. Distractions clouding pure vision are thrown at us daily, but these are our ultimate guide, reminding us that we are not those ideas by which we are conditioned.

Living in reality is enriching;
being happy for no reason does not rely on conditions.

LEVELS OF WAKING UP

Levels Of Waking Up

Knowing there are bad people in the world is not waking up.
Knowing there are stupid people in the world is not waking up.
It’s always been this way.

We are meant to see injustice and react, as this creates conflicting emotions in the mind, and makes us unstable – and controllable.

We start to wake up when we notice the effect of this on our minds, and how we believe whatever we are told, being manipulated to take sides. We realise that our mind is not our own when we only quote others.

Waking up is not about what we see out there; waking up is an internal affair.

Grumbling becomes a ‘comedian’s art form;
it’s very clever, but it’s still part of the soporific show,
making us think we see something no one else sees. 🙂

When we realise something is wrong with us, we start to wake up as we know there is more. What has been presented is just a dream, and an illusion of freedom, when it has actually been slavery all along. People function in a dream state – they only look awake; the higher levels of wakefulness are empathy and compassion for this state.

The Buddha’s first noble truth
is to acknowledge that we are suffering, dissatisfied, anxious.

The cause of this dissatisfaction is an identification with an illusory self, which is just an idea in the mind of how clever I am. That is consciousness clinging to an image. That is the creation of ego-I.

Once we can separate what we are – consciousness – from the mind, we can start our journey of ascending the levels of realisations/wakefulness to pure consciousness.

Meditation clears the mind to see directly,
rather than via others’ explanations.

Never take the Buddha’s word for the truth;
it is direct perception – pure consciousness – that is the unchanging truth.

WORSHIPPING A BUDDHA

Worshipping A Buddha

Worshipping a Buddha is worshipping a form, an idea.
Better to be practical, and acknowledge the worth of a Buddha through experience.

Enlightenment is the experience of being a nobody; we are devoted to reality, and not the person. Worship is just a lucky charm, a hope, a show, a group-cultural thing following others.

There were Buddhas before The Buddha. There have been Buddhas since The Buddha.
The word ‘Buddha’ means enlightened, which is knowing one’s true reality, having eliminated all mental fixations.

An enlightened being wants us to know through experience.
The opposite wants us just to believe.

What is the point of acknowledging enlightenment just for one individual, when it is the very essence of all sentient beings?

PURE AWARENESS IS BEING NATURAL

Pure Awareness Is Being Natural

Pure awareness is being ordinary, being natural; it’s just being aware. There is no attitude, no learning, no superiority – just awareness. Meditation is just being aware, anywhere.

Pure awareness isn’t an altered state of being; it’s merely being open. The altered state is thinking we’re interesting, which causes us suffering.

If we make meditation into something special, it’s counter-productive and we fall into a fallacy. When we realise the natural state of pure awareness, we recognise the altered state of people in the world.

HOLLOWNESS VERSUS EMPTINESS

Hollowness Versus Emptiness

Hollowness is vacancy, when we feel empty inside and life seems pointless, so we constantly look for things to fill the void. This is the constructed, vicious cycle of existence, where we have no foundation of reality – and so, no happiness.

Emptiness is a term used to express the naked quality of hollowness which is pure consciousness, full of potential.

If we constantly fill the pure space in the mind, there is no room for clarity; a congested mind is a closed mind. If we are unfamiliar with the spacious potential in the mind, it can feel isolating, so we fill the space with background ‘noise’.

When hollowness is recognised as the empty space of pure cognisance,
the more we are at ease with ourselves.

WHY THE MYSTERY?

Why The Mystery?

Because we’re led to look the wrong way.

A mystery is something which captures our imagination. We like a mystery because it keeps the answer at arms’ length; if we know, this has consequences.

In the completion of an activity, there is a short moment of satisfaction – a gap, a moment of empty cognisance – which is pure consciousness. That is the mystery we seek.

This absolute truth is too simple for the majority of people, who still are still captured by ‘trinkets’, and don’t notice that which is within that perceives the trinkets.

Spirituality is science; there is no science without observation. When looking through a microscope, we ignore what’s looking.

Every day, mystery is upgraded by the ‘producers’.
No mystery: no dopamine rush.

THE ENORMITY OF THE ILLUSION

The Enormity Of The Illusion

Writing about this cannot give it justice – we have to see it for ourselves.

As soon as we enter the gates-of-birth, we enter a mind-construct; we are given a ‘passport’ for us to identity with, and are initiated into an illusion which has nothing to do with our true reality. We walk around in a physical body, guided by a mind that has been doctored/retouched/altered to pout at any opportunity.
Pout: be inflated.

People follow nonsense, and we follow suit. It’s been that way for thousands of years. Now and again, someone will say to themselves, “This doesn’t make sense”. Science doesn’t help, and religion doesn’t help; both lead to dependency, and false impressions.

We have to realise this self-pouter is an illusion, from birth to death. The gates-of-death only open to the gates-of-birth, and so we go round again, in infinite time and space … “Oh, not again!?”

This can all stop in a moment if we come to our senses, which are non-conceptual, and merely be aware that awareness (freedom) is present. It’s not exciting; it’s just a relief from the enormity of the gates-of-illusion, where we believed everything.

Believing in nothing, we can now live out life through the gates-of-reality, to no-more-gates.

OUR MINDS HAVE BEEN COLONISED

Our Minds Have Been Colonised

Our minds have been taken over, and we never noticed; we surrendered at birth, because our parents told us how to think, just as they were told how to think. We assume this is normal, but while we argue amongst ourselves about the state of the world, and about who colonised who, we do not realise that our minds have already been taken over.

The ‘news’ and ‘alternative news’ make sure we see injustice. All the things going on in the world are merely a distraction for what has really gone on, and these events are not meant to be hidden as they’re in plain sight.

Can we think outside ourself?

History is a illusion. What went on in the past is happening now, with domination of minds while we argue about trivia. It’s all allowed: wars, conspiracy theories, sugar in food, sentimentality of religion, hatred, division, protests, open borders, clashes of cultures, pretend politics …

All the while, we are already incarcerated; like the cave dwellers in Plato’s cave allegory, we watch the shadows on the wall, believing them to be our reality.

Never think evil is stupid; it’s extremely clever. Never judge it by conventional standards; our minds are already dulled. The world is meant to look and behave crazy, and we’re given toys to play with – which we have to pay for.

We can never think we are free.
We have to know it, and know why.

THE REASON WE SEEK KNOWLEDGE

The Reason We Seek Knowledge

We are hungry for an answer, while all around us are people full with information; facts provided and learned. We seek knowledge that leads to wisdom; the application of knowledge. Once we recognise wisdom through experience, then we know that information is just a set piece which creates a formation in the mind that is pointless.

Practice is experiencing, rather than acting out information.
Our essential nature is the wisdom we seek.

THE IMMEDIATE PATH TO LIBERATION

The Immediate Path To Liberation

Ordinary psychology studies (looks at) the mind. Spiritual psychology studies (looks at) that which looks at the mind – consciousness – which is pure logic, but which ordinary psychology omits.

Proof of spiritual psychology is realised by sitting in silent awareness, bringing up thoughts – pleasant or unpleasant – and seeing that these thoughts have no reality. We have just conjured them up, the same as everything that we relate to. The actual reality is in that which sees – consciousness.

Realise that in this immediate moment,
there is nothing else present
– no comments, no words, no attitude.

That is pure consciousness – non-duality.
The spontaneous liberation from all thoughts and anxiety.

We generally avoid unpleasant thoughts because they create a reaction in the mind that is disturbing, like an emotion we shy away from. But that is exactly the moment to realise that pure consciousness is present. Know that thoughts create an idea of a self-entity, which has no reality; it’s all in the mind. If we believe our thoughts to be real, we remain imprisoned in a mental state of belief.

We are that pure consciousness which cannot be described, and has no name; giving it a name creates an identity which causes separation.

Liberation is the recognition by consciousness
of spontaneous, luminous emptiness beyond the mind.

Short moment many times join up!
Note: No bells and whistles.

EVIL IS TRUTH’S GUIDE

Evil Is Truth’s Guide

Our essential nature is the ultimate truth of pure consciousness.
It’s what we have always been.

Evil obscures this truth.

The path to enlightenment isn’t through pretending to be spiritual, or believing in others’ words; that is the path to interpretation and division. The true path is seeing our confusion and pretence, and it’s not for the faint-hearted, who live in hope of better things to come.

Corruption has infiltrated our minds, but it can never ultimately succeed as a disturbed mind starts to question.

UNUSUAL BLESSINGS

Unusual Blessings

Blessing don’t always need to inspire us;
they can also stop us going the wrong way.

Things may not work out the way we hoped,
but instead, doors close, allowing new ones to open.

We may have the feeling, “Can’t I stay here for a little longer?”
before the carpet gets whipped away from under our feet.
Ever felt like that?

It’s the result of subconscious intent (karma) at work.
This is the part of the mind of which we are not fully aware,
but which influences our actions and feelings.

We can either see the immorality in the world as negative,
or see the seeing as as a blessing.

THEY MAKE IT FAR TOO COMPLICATED

They Make It Far Too Complicated

Who are ‘they’? Those who miss the point by dividing up attention into minute particles, thus maintaining the mystery.

In every walk of life, all activities are constantly being ‘upgraded’ and made competitive. Where we had a charming, amateur approach to life, we are now supposed to be super-soldiers. Whether we run a mile in 3.43.13 minutes or 10 minutes, we have still just run a mile.

The Dharma is very simple – we are pure consciousness that transcends suffering. Now, we get on with an ordinary life, dissolving personal karma that drops the attitude. 🙂

Suggesting that enlightenment is a million miles away is divisive, and makes it ‘special’.

Divisive: tending to cause disagreement or hostility between people.

Being happy is being ordinary, with no special or distinctive features; normal; not interesting or exceptional; commonplace.

Ordinary: from Latin ordinarius ‘orderly’.

We are definitely not what we think.

Everything has become super-mundane,
rather than supra-mundane!

THE WISDOM THAT DISPELS PRIDE AND ENVY

The Wisdom That Dispels Pride And Envy

Pride is the wisdom-of-equality; we all have the same potential.

Envy is all-accomplishing-wisdom; that quality which is recognised in another is within us already.

The Dharma is practical. This is why the Buddha said, “See for yourself.” Wisdom isn’t about worshipping idols, gurus, shrines, temples … it is about seeing beyond.

WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH OUR LIFE?

What Are We Doing With Our Life?

Is it precious, or mundane?

We have the ability to realise that we are the wisdom of all enlightened beings who have transcended the hive mentality.

Hive mentality, also known as groupthink, is when a person has a strong tendency to fall for group decision-making. Those with the hive mentality feel invulnerable and morally correct when they’re part of a certain group. They are unable to make decisions on their own, and so they worship a figurehead.

He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.
The last lines of George Orwell’s book, 1984.

If we think that there is nothing after death, then what are we doing in this short space of time?
If we feel that there is more to life, and that reincarnation is a possibility, then we know our actions have consequences.

The world’s been deceived for a very long time.
To reverse this will take generations, rather then a couple of years.

NOT REALISING THE DEPTH OF OUR PROBLEM

Not Realising The Depth Of Our Problem

The realisation of the absolute truth that we are original,  pure, conscious awareness is right here, right now. It’s not ‘up there’.

Enlightenment is right here, right now.
Dewachen is right here, right now.
It’s not somewhere else.

Our problem is not knowing or ignoring this in favour of manifestations of our imagination, be they religious, political, social, scientific … all of which are very clever, but which just maintain our opinions.

We entertain ourselves with interpretations, arguments and division. What we constantly forget (or ignore) is that which observes creation.

Creating distractions becomes our limited reality.
The depth of our ignorance is that superficial.

DIVIDE AND CONQUER

Divide And Conquer

Being put in the impossible situation of having to accept divisive chaos and confusion, we must remain silent, or receive the consequences. Of course, there are agents who provoke a situation; they are always part of the plan.

Hypocrisy: Hypocrisy is having the pretence of a virtuous character with moral principles that one does not actually possess.

If we think things just happen for no reason, we haven’t been looking, and that is part of hypocrisy.

We are all gullible because we all want to believe in goodness, but the more we are aware, the more we see contrivances, and the more we are prepared.

NEVER BLAME YOUR SELF

Never Blame Your Self

Self is just a product of a mistaken reality which is conjured up by the mistaken reality of others, and which occupies the mind. 🙂 It’s a collective illusion, and we can’t blame ourselves as we just followed everyone else.

Once we understand this strange behaviour of taking our self seriously, we decide that enough is enough, and no longer react to the collective’s view of life.

Consciousness (that which is aware) can never be offended as there is nothing to defend. How can consciousness be attacked? We can only be offended when we cling to ideas.

When we hold on to desires and aversions, we cause suffering, both subtle and gross, but these emotions are just products from the past, when we knew not what we were doing.

Every time we try to justify our self, we are protecting our self; this is the vicious cycle of existence. When we experience this happening and recognise it, we are free.

Our self is our notice board, displaying important memos and reminders of being occupied by outside forces. 🙂

HOW SUBTLE ARE WE?

How Subtle Are We?

Not many of us notice consciousness; we merely go through the motions of daily routines. People think, but only about what they do or what others do. To them, this is life.

Consciousness is subtle. Just being aware. It’s not a mystery.
Does it get subtler? Yes.
When we realise that we don’t have awareness – we are that conscious awareness.
Does it get even subtler? Yes.
When we then realise, through meditation, that there is nothing else present and, dropping any notion of being conscious awareness, we arrive at pure consciousness or empty cognisance.

Enlightenment is constantly resting in pure consciousness, where we have no needs. Needs only arise when we are attached to ideas and body. We can be fully conscious and still go through our daily motions, but remain detached.

It’s not a theory; it’s what we ultimately are, right now. This realisation brings subtle energy to the fore. It’s nothing earth-shattering; it’s inner release from all mental illusions of turmoil and confusion that we and everyone else have been living under.

It is a shock when we look back on our life … and on those who lorded it over us. Inner peace brings clarity to understand what our self is – a running programme of confusion maintained by everyone around us. Once we truly realise this, confusion dawns as wisdom. This self caused us to react or become indifferent – but now we are aware of its attitude. Our enemy is now our teacher.

Self is not what we are.

It’s a programme running in the mind
that makes us do things a certain way.

Now, it points out what to let go of.
🙂

Self is attachment.

REVERSING DEMONIC CAPTIVITY

Reversing Demonic Captivity

Being captivated by demonic activity should be the incentive to seek freedom.
Sentimentality won’t do this.
Protesting won’t do this.
We have to recognise the state of fearing words.

It is this demonic activity that either awakens consciousness, or sends us back to sleep.
Recognising suffering and the cause of suffering, the rest unfolds.

I refer you to yesterday’s article …

HYPOCRISY = REACTION = HYPOCRISY

Hypocrisy = Reaction = Hypocrisy

It’s an unjust and demonic world.

Hypocrisy is having the pretence of a virtuous character with moral principles that one does not actually possess. If we accuse others of being intolerant, we are participants in intolerance ourselves, and this is hypocrisy.

That is the vicious cycle of existence; create a problem, get a reaction to the problem, and supply the solution which was intended in the first place. It primes us to feel at fault, which is gaslighting.

This manufactured scenario is unjust because we’ve been conditioned to believe something, and then condemned for being conditioned. It’s called ‘moving the goalposts’. The rules are changed in a situation in order to gain an advantage, and to make things difficult for people.

The hallmark of injustice is the hypocrisy of “Project Fear”,
which is meant to disturb our mental balance.

Our minds have been corrupted and, under stress, we either acquiesce or draw a line to go no further, but what do we do then? Protest? Protesting is merely reacting, which generates more hypocrisy.

To change an unjust world, we have to realise how long it’s taken to arrive at this state – and that’s how long it will take to reverse the situation. Think generations, rather than a couple of years.

All we can do is address what’s in our mind and how it got there, and recognise traits in our behaviour. It is we who have to change our way of thinking, and for that we need a clear mind to realise what we can personally do to help the world.

Think small steps, rather than a big gestures.
Think nanotechnology, where the bits all join up.

If we merely believe in others, they’ve taken over our mind. When we stop believing, we start knowing, and being tolerant of intolerance.

Tolerance is the ability to bear pain and hardship,
and needs empathetic understanding of cause and effect.

Meditation is mind training.
Silent awareness starts at the source or essence of consciousness.

Self discipline and concentration results in compassionate generosity.
Meditation is like nanotechnology – tiny moments expanding to one continuous moment.

PEOPLE LIVE IN STORIES

People Live In Stories

As long as we live through books, stories and words, we will never actually experience life itself, but will live in the imagination, through the actions of another person. The point is that we can then never be our original being – we are just someone else’s theme park 🙂

In this way, we are unable to receive transmissions from life, as we impose our dream theme on to everything, rather than discovering the blessings of living life in its raw and enriching state. Lacking genuine experience, we live in a dream state, talk in a dream state, die in a dream state.

Theme park: amusement park with a unifying setting or idea.

WHY IS FREE SPEECH FEARED?

  • Why Is Free Speech Feared?

Why is free speech feared? Because of fanatics. When fanatics speak, it’s obvious that they are fanatics. “But someone may believe them!” Every person who doesn’t realise their reality cannot tell the truth; they have a version of the truth, having been indoctrinated by an idea.

Every time someone speaks, they are telling us about themselves. Why should we be afraid of that?

In a world run on double standards by the creation of two sides, of course free speech is feared, in case someone actually tells the truth.

Denying free speech promotes a hive mind.
Being woke sounds like being awake.
    It’s not; it’s another version.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF EXISTENCE?

What Are Different Dimensions Of Existence?

These dimensions people talk about aren’t unseen mysterious phenomena out there in the void; they are different levels of understanding reality – right here.

When we realise something, the vocabulary we use is limited, so we may utilise the same words but the meaning is different. Our point of view determines whether we see things as a theoretical mystery, or as practical knowledge that we can work with.

As an example: people usually shy away from admitting that they have unpleasant emotions, while a realised person welcomes them as it shows the path.

WHAT IS STOPPING US KNOWING? IT IS BELIEF

What Is Stopping Us Knowing? It Is Belief.

Belief is second-hand information – hearsay rather than direct observation or experience.

Belief is thinking that we know. This causes insecurity, defensiveness, and aggression. Belief is a con trick, destroying confidence and the ability to reason. It is belief that causes confusion; we’re only confused because we believe. If we know, we don’t have to believe. Belief is an idea, and the mind holds us prisoner to that idea.

Belief has a lot of followers – in fact, a planet-ful! – while knowing is beyond belief. Knowing is gnostic – esoteric mystical knowledge. It is only mystical because, ordinarily, we see through a belief system in the mind.

Belief is the ignorance of not knowing;
it is second-hand information,
previously owned but now owning us.

People fight over ideas.
You cannot fight over consciousness.

Belief wants to control.
Consciousness is pure observation.

GOODNESS AND EVIL

Goodness And Evil

Goodness is clarity, transparent, as it is.
Evil is opaque, obscure, not as it is.

‘As it is’ is direct seeing.
‘Not as it is’ is interpretation.

Happiness is the relief from suffering,
seeing through interpretations.

Unhappiness is embroiled in conflict,
confusion and disorder.

Why is there evil?
It is wanting to gain.

Why is there goodness?
It is inner peace, with nothing to gain.

Nothing lasts forever, even good and evil,
which are merely designations of light and dark.

Evil is a mind constructed on thoughts.
Goodness is not dependent on the mind.

There are wrathful and peaceful aspects to life;
both are loving kindness,
not to dull us but to keep us sharp.

THE SUBTLE CHANGE IN AWARENESS

The Subtle Change In Awareness

Awareness of awareness isn’t pure awareness, as it’s still a duality of being aware of some aspect, and relating to this. In pure awareness, there is no notion of being aware; there is just awareness or consciousness, resting in consciousness.

In the Tibetan Nyingma tradition, there are eight consciousnesses, plus one. Five are of the senses, and there are three of mind: perception, judgement and memory. The ninth is pure awareness or pure consciousness.

The eighth consciousness of memory is also called the all-ground, where all information is held. We can mistake this for our being which we call ‘myself’, but it is just memories. It is the feeling of being aware and conscious – the feeling of self.

In being aware of awareness, we are doing something.
Our reality is the ninth.

Pure awareness can only be acknowledged, or its presence realised,
and any attachment drops.

This is why we also have to drop the meditation.

IMPRISONED BY DOCTRINE

Imprisoned By Doctrine

The problem with adherence to doctrine/ideology/scripture
is emotional immaturity,
and a lack of tolerance and compassion.

Religion – or any ideology – seems to make people narrow-minded. They can quote doctrine and talk the talk, but this is meaningless without experience; some sort of hypocrisy is involved, and there’s never a meeting of minds. We are all on our path to some realisation beyond the books, but many fall by the wayside through carrying too much luggage.

Realisation is only practical when we can talk about what we have personally experienced.

Hypocrisy: the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case
From Greek hupokrisis ‘acting of a theatrical part’, from hupokrinesthai ‘play a part, pretend’.

UNIVERSAL INDIVIDUAL CONSCIOUSNESS

Universal Individual Consciousness

Consciousness is universal, and is the essence of all sentient beings. This is not saying that there is one universal consciousness ‘out there’ which we emulate or are part of; it is the perfect being that we are.

Neither is it saying that the universe is conscious; the universe is just empty space, with circling matter governed by attraction and repulsion, just like the mind.

In infinite space, there is an infinite number of beings,
all with the potential of realising their true essence.

Some gurus say there is a universal being, and some say not. Maybe there is and maybe there isn’t. What matters is being conscious now, in the moment now, without any ideas of past or future, which is just speculation.

We’ve been so indoctrinated with the idea of God (whether we believe or not) that our mind becomes confused and fixated – just what Mara intended. 🙂

NEVER BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF

Never Believe In Your Self

Never belief in your self;
know thy self.

Attachment to this self is just a bit hokery-pokery – trickery. While this nonsensical illusion is acting out a charade that’s adopted by the collective, the supreme being of pure consciousness looks on.

We are that supreme being; there is nothing supremer :-). It’s what’s behind the curtain, observing it all. Whatever we do in front of pure consciousness makes no difference to pure consciousness. It’s just there, waiting to be realised.

Our self is a phantom, but it’s also our path to enlightenment as it shows us all the mistaken views we’ve acquired and cling to. Having realised our mistake in believing others, the result is, all opinions and beliefs about our self fade away, while ever-present pure awareness remains.

Self show us the way to go, with all its pride, desire, aversion, anger, indifference …
Pure consciousness notes all this, and lets go.

EMOTIONS DISPEL DARKNESS

Emotions Dispel Darkness

We have everything upside down. At the lower levels of information, the emotions are our enemy; we mustn’t feel desire, hatred, jealousy, pride, irritation, unhappiness, disillusionment … it’s a long list. 🙂 But what if these emotions are the key to enlightenment?

What if we have been led to pretend not to have these emotions, to put on a ‘good’ front? To pretend that certain things that we see which make us angry are not happening?

That pretence is the lock to our personal, claustrophobic dungeon of existence. This dungeon prevents us from seeing the reality – that this imprisonment of emotions does not truly exist. It’s all mental, and we are made to feel guilty for thinking – and certainly speaking – about what we see.

Pretending we are not anxious or suffering is the great illusion. We are unenlightened beings because of not knowing our true reality. This is the vacant state of indifference.

Advanced spiritual training isn’t walking-on-water or melting-snow-with-our-bodies; it is recognising this deluded state, and realising that which notices this state – pure consciousness – which is just watching the silly antics of the mind and body. Pure consciousness is what we are.

Meditation is dropping all identification with ideas and resting in the emptiness of clarity, the luminosity of pure consciousness. When this is recognised, confusion has dawned as wisdom.

What we thought of as an enemy (our emotions) is now our illuminator in the very first instant of arising, showing us whatever ideas we are holding on to. When we let go of ideas and emotions, we are empty but awake, and totally free.

It’s just habit that brings us back to the darkness of our claustrophobic dungeon. In not holding on to anything, there is nothing that can be taken from us.

A thief in a empty house has nothing to steal;
we are released from retaliation.

THE RAT RACE

The Rat Race

The trouble with the rat race (the competition for intellect, wealth or power) is that even if we win, we’re still a rat. 😀

Spiritual progress is knowing when we have had enough of this obsessive exhausting, repetitive lifestyle that leaves no time for contemplation, true inner peace or a friendly chat about what is important.

If we live in a rat race of competitiveness we can’t be authentic, and we lose touch with the things that are most important – life outside the rat race. 🙂

IS THERE A GOD OR NOT?

Is There A God or Not?

This is a pointless debate as it’s a personal issue. No one should impose their views on to others – and criticising those who believe/don’t believe is futile. What matters is how we feel about this topic, and how it affects our life.

Even if the Buddha said is there a God or there isn’t,
it all depends on an individual’s level of understanding.

Some like a fixed concept to see them through life, either believing or not believing. Some feel that God is something within us all. Some will ask, “What is it that is within us all?”

Personally, I see that it is awareness that is within all sentient beings; on investigation through meditation, we realise that this clarity of awareness is pure awareness, pure consciousness. There is nothing to discuss.

If we want to call that ‘God’ or ‘Brahma’, okay. The point is, does our conclusion express itself in kindness towards others? Or does it make us partisan zealots?

Whatever we feel, it’s up to us, and no one else. Belief doesn’t define what we are; it is something we have acquired. Merely following others is a dangerous affair as we lose our authority and authenticity.

Our cat worships a paper bag; it makes him happy.
He doesn’t ask anyone to worship it with him.

FREE THINKING

Free Thinking

Free thinking and free speech only work in a stable and homogenous society, and this is something we don’t have. When conflict is promoted, confusion and chaos ensues, speech is exaggerated and people become divided.

The Buddha taught not to believe,
but to test the teaching for ourself,
a view at odds with belief.

Belief can only be justified by belief.

DZOGCHEN ISN’T A TEACHING

Dzogchen Isn’t A Teaching

Dzogchen is another name for what we are: pure consciousness.
There’s no getting away from it.
🙂

If we think Dzogchen is something extra – extra special to make us extra, extra special – that is not Dzogchen. That is the opposite to Dzogchen. Dzogchen is the raw thing; it’s skinless, total exposure, with nothing to get hold of.

Our reality isn’t a mysterious, magical dance in the sky. It’s right here, right now. It’s reading these words without comment, which is non-duality. Comments may then come along. This is still non-duality; duality comes when we make something more out of it.

Dzogchen is always right now. Doing a Dzogchen retreat doing nothing – and not making much ado about nothing. 🙂

The real teaching is in our reactions, the total exposure.

DECEIVED BY KNOWING ‘ABOUT’ THE TRUTH

Deceived By Knowing ‘About’ The Truth

Our minds are hijacked by knowing about the truth; absolute truth is being the truth. We can actually be deceived by the truth; this is extremely subtle, but not once we see it. The moment of seeing is the spark that, with constancy, illumines into enlightenment.

This is like complaining about the world and being righteous, while not realising that we are the problem. The world wouldn’t be the way it is if we didn’t run around like headless chickens, believing in the illusion of ‘information’.

Knowing about the truth is the great illusion, when we feel self-satisfied and smug (smug: to adorn ourself). As there are levels or yanas of understanding, so too there are levels of misguided intent.

To repeat the Buddha: “Do not take my words for the truth; test them for yourself.” Beware of translations; they may be true, or they may be slightly off. How would you know? Without experiencing we’re easily led astray.

Galileo’s clock escapement mechanism of capture and release is the essence of all clocks. Once this principle is realised, we can make our own clock with whatever is at hand. As long as it functions, does it matter what it looks like? If it works, all parts are empathetic towards one another! 🙂

The more we see that we’re caught,
the more we are free.

KEEPING UP APPEARANCES

Keeping Up Appearances

The need for validation is deeply ingrained within human nature. Humans consciously and subconsciously look to those around them for confirmation of their social, economic and spiritual status. This perpetuates the mind in which we all live; it preserves the illusion, sustains the charade, and maintain the facade,

Being easily intimidated, we fall in line.
In not wanting to appear foolish, we appease the foolish,
and therefore become foolish.

“Shooting an Elephant” is George Orwell’s honest account of his experience as a police officer in Burma, killing an escaped elephant in front of a crowd ‘solely to avoid looking a fool’. He said that it would have taken a stronger character to stand up to all those people, and declare that the elephant no longer posed a threat.

Keeping up appearances makes people unreliable
as they are easily swayed.

WHAT IS WORSE THAN BELIEF?

What Is Worse Than Belief?

Worse than belief
is wanting to believe

There are two obscurations in the mind: ignorance of our true reality, and the maintenance of that ignorance. When we stick to one side about whatever we read or hear without stopping to wonder, we become extremists. Belief is extremism, which is unreliable.

The middle way is an open door.
Extremists close that door.

Until we drop belief,
we cannot realise the truth.

THE PETTY ILLUSION: WE THINK WE ARE AWAKE

The Petty Illusion: We Think We Are Awake

While engaged in either dream states of thought or vacancy,
we ignore our ever-present reality of pure consciousness.

We are science fact in science fiction.

Fact is awareness.
Fiction is whatever we are aware of.

Awareness is constant.
Whatever we are aware of is impermanent.

Petty awareness is belief and opinions.
The highest awareness is pure awareness, pure consciousness.

THE ARAB SPRING, OPEN BORDERS, AND MASS MIGRATION

The Arab Spring, Open Borders, And Mass Migration

I’m not a political person, but politics – the governing of people – affects our minds and distracts consciousness. Things do not just happen; there are causes, when the ‘right’ conditions are applied, in every walk of life.

The Arab Spring (early 2010s) is one such series of events that affects Europe now. It was protests against corrupt governments, propped up by outside forces that resulted in changes in the Middle East. This infected the entire world, as all wars do; has there ever been a time where the world was free from war? Every time something ‘happens’, the world changes and doesn’t go back to normal; our lives are altered, and not for the better.

Many aspects of life are a war on humanity, the mind and consciousness. It’s been going on for thousands of years.

The result is that each generation is romanced and radicalised by revolutionary ideas in all walks of life, and the causes are forgotten…

Romance: a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love, especially when sentimental or idealised.

That is the whole point.

(The Arab Spring resulted in conflicts in Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Djibouti, Sudan, Palestine, Iraq, Bahrain, Libya, Kuwait, Morocco, Mauritania, and at the borders of both Lebanon and Israel.)

BEING HAPPY, BUT NOT FEELING HAPPY

Being Happy, But Not Feeling Happy

Until enlightenment, we will feel a residue of karmic confusion. We can be happy, but not feel happy; in fact, we may even feel sad. In realising our simple essence of pure consciousness, we understand that we are not the chattering memories in the mind; we understand not only how the mind works, and can recognise whatever obscures this reality, but also, more importantly, how others’ minds work.

And there’s the rub, the friction. The current global spread of intolerance is very disturbing; people feel they aren’t being listened to, and there are protests and the potential for civil war, all of which are predictable.

We see staged corruption in every walk of life. Everything is upgraded to the point of hysteria through ideologies that have an obscure agenda – the circus of illusions, led by zealots of deception.

What can we do about this?

Protests will merely provide the excuse to make it more difficult to protest. The answer is for more people to awaken to their true reality, and be less taken in by false stories. It’s taking individual responsibility that tames the mind – the circus of illusions – rather than filling it up with platitudes.

If consciousness cannot see endarkenment
then there is no enlightenment.

It is the recognition of evil that will sustain us.
Evil is the short cut.

WHO CREATED OUR REALITY?

Who Created Our ‘Reality’?

This ‘reality’ was created by those who convinced people to believe in truth, rather than knowing truth for themselves. We therefore became reliant on them.

Convince: to cause to believe firmly in the truth of something, from Latin convincere,   from con‘with’ + vincere ‘conquer’.

This extremely subtle deception requires the acceptance of an idea without proof; we become bound to commentaries and translations of commentaries, ignoring actual evidence through personal experience. It’s why the Buddha said, 2500 years ago, “Do not take my word for truth. Test it for yourselves”. The deception was recognised that long ago … 🙂

This fabrication of a false reality is a confidence trick, which creates a lack of true confidence, and a reliance on dogma. Once we accept a belief, we will accept any make-believe story. It’s why people divide and argue.

The only truth that is available is the presence of awareness, to be able to know. To be aware of this awareness – not finding anything else in the inner silence of meditation – is the non-duality of pure awareness. Truth is never in a book; it is the pure awareness of what is in the book or under the stone … any book, any stone.

For thousands of years, we have enthralled by what’s in the book or under a pile of beautiful, architectural stones.

Just to be clear:
it in is the looking in a book
or in the looking under a stone
that the ultimate truth lies.

It’s not what’s in a book or under a stone.
🙂

THE WIND UP IS A COVER UP

The Wind Up Is A Cover Up

Being wound up is being anxious, fearful or angry about a state of affairs. Our minds are constantly held captive, and we’re so distracted that we cannot see the causes that created this uncertainty.

Everyone knows when something isn’t right, but we cover up wounds and traumas using the extremes of platitudes and exaggerations. The wind up is a cover up.

We are partners in this vicious cycle of our existence.

Being wound up is suffering. The Buddhist definition of the cause of suffering is a belief in a self-construct, but it should be added that the world in which we live promotes this volatile phantom.

When we can train our mind, we stop being confused and foolish. Through dropping the mind’s reactions – even for a moment – consciousness is given space to see all sides of whatever is presented.

A moment’s meditation does just this.
We are that consciousness that knows.

Just notice being wound up,
and the tension in the mind and body.

THE YOGA OF ONE TASTE

The Yoga Of One Taste

We all like to feel good. We like to be with our guru or lama, go to temples, walk in the mountains, chant prayers with others, eat nice food … but feeling good isn’t the same as the yoga of one taste.

If we think that doing these things makes us feel good, then there will be things we don’t like, such as noisy, busy places, people who chatter on, the news … our reaction can actually a catalyst for the yoga of one taste.

The yoga of one taste is the moment before we decide whether we like or dislike. It’s just tasting, seeing, smelling, hearing, touching – all non-conceptual, non-dual pure consciousness.

While noisy busy places can appear to be unpleasant, when we make no mental comment of like or dislike, this is the perfect condition to experience the yoga of one taste.

While beautiful peaceful surroundings can appear to be pleasant, when we make no mental comment of like or dislike, this is the perfect condition to experience the yoga of one taste.

Whether experience is pleasant or unpleasant,
the yoga of one taste is just experience.

Yoga means unity.

FINDING WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR

Finding What You’re Looking For

It is not in the finding, but in the looking. The pure awareness and the dropping of any attachment to being aware. There is no act involved, no flights of fancy.

The problem comes when we feel there should be whistles and bells and ‘angels’. We should be feeling great. No. Feelings are a physical sensation in the body or euphoria in the mind – both just temporary phenomena adopted from others’ fantasies of things supernatural and mysterious.

Stage magicians can to this for our entertainment.

Realisation is being ordinary, just aware in the unity of one taste, the neutral state of experience, disengaged but fully aware, fully conscious.

There is no need to act ‘spiritual’ because, when realisation dawns, we are ethereal consciousness. Many realised people had ordinary jobs and lived outside the parade, the showing.

The only thing we are then bound to is the reality of absolute truth within all beings.

THE WORLD HAS BECOME MORE INSIDIOUS

The World Has Become More Insidious

Insidious: from Latin insidiosus ‘cunning’, from insidiae ‘an ambush or trick’.

The world has become more insidious to cause trouble and chaos. Natural differences are being exaggerated, and dividing peoples. Why? To push an agenda that we should all think the same way. This is a contradiction – which is meant to cause conflict – and is the reason why it will never work.

Know your mind, otherwise others will know it for you – they want a reaction to take the agenda to the next stage.

We need to control our minds.

THE GREAT RESET

The Great Reset

‘The Great Reset’ is restoring our minds to its natural state, so that we can think clearly, and not be a reactive automaton.

Our minds have become so distorted that we’re in conflict with everything and everyone. Actually, we have good reason as those in power (who also have distorted minds) create discord which divides people. Separating people maintains power, because we’re are not united. It’s amazing how many are involved in conflict, blaming others but never realising the consequences of perpetual disharmony.

It is through clarity that we become aware of disturbance in our mind. We reset through meditation, which clears any biased attitude, to come back to the pure, natural state of empty cognisance.

This being the Kali Yuga – the age of strife – it’s easier to see if our mind is bright. While our mind may be confused, consciousness isn’t. Consciousness, like the senses, has no concepts, being totally open. It is identifying with the mind’s ideas that creates the filter, the translator which picks and chooses.

Fighting or blaming our karma (the results of our past actions) only serves to create more of the same. This is why we need daily resetting – momentary resetting – to bring us back to calmness and clarity.

Complaining does nothing but create and maintain the status quo. Look at the world; confusion is everywhere, so who can we blame?

We can only reset our own mind, and not the minds of others. Once our mind becomes stable, it radiates; someone might see this and think, “How is that?” 🙂 It is this moment, not just words, that brings about change.
