HOW DO WE KNOW WE ARE DREAMING?

How Do We Know We Are Dreaming?

We’re in a dream state when we’re lost in thought, and consciousness is caught up in autopilot predictable text. When we’re talking about the past or the future, we’re being self-hypnotised. We project deep into a memory or an imaginary argument, completely swept away by the narrative as we go into repetitive mode.

When something unexpectedly happens, consciousness snaps out of it. It comes to its senses, back in reality.

We practise by observing thoughts rather than being trapped inside them. This is the purpose of meditation. The moment we recognise the dream state, we wake up in no-thought.

This doesn’t mean we don’t think; we only think when necessary.
Most of the time, there’s just observation.

It’s a shock to realise this dream state is everywhere.
Yes, we have a purpose … to snap out of it.
