Realising The Real Teacher
Don’t go to an expert;
go to the expert the expert goes to.
š
We know someone is an ‘expert’ because of what they say and do.
But the real expertise is non-verbal pure consciousness.
And ⦠we’re that!
When a teacher is talking, their words are a reflection of realisation.
We all have to go through the same process, otherwise we will keep doubting.
True expertise is not the accumulation of data or conceptual knowledge, but rather the baseline.
The illusion of conceptual expertise.
We get caught up in a teacher’s lineage and cultural behaviour. When we become dependent on this, we stay trapped in the mind. Intellectual knowledge is inherently dualistic as it relies on subject and object, right and wrong, which inevitably breeds doubt. If a teacher speaks only from the intellect, they’re sharing information, not truth.
Spoken words as a mirror of silence.
When a true teacher speaks, their words don’t serve to build a new mental structure. Instead, they act as a direct pointer back to that prior state of pure awareness. The words are just ripples on the surface of an ocean of absolute stillness.
Overcoming doubt through direct experience.
If we look to an external authority to hand us the truth, we’ll remain dependent and insecure. The only way to dissolve doubt permanently is to shift our attention away from spoken concepts and rest directly in the silent, non-verbal presence within.
When our own silent awareness recognises that same awareness in the teacher, the need for external validation dissolves.
The expert the expert goes to is not another person;
it is pure consciousness itself.
The real Buddha in the mud is Dzogchen.
We are Dzogchen ā pure consciousness.
