THE ASPECTS OF SELF

The Aspects Of Self

Know your enemy: know your teacher.

‘Self’ is a bundle of ideas to which consciousness clings: it’s the smokescreen that causes all the conflict in the world. Self has no reality.

While we focus on a learnt fiction in the mind, we ignore the knowingness of consciousness that is ever-present pure intelligence. We prefer secondhand word intelligence, which maintains the smokescreen, and all the things we think about; the term, ‘word salad’ refers to the jumbled words and phrases which fill the precious gap in our mind.

We think knowing about things is wisdom,
when wisdom is recognising and understanding knowingness,
and the purpose of life.

Talking about things is a defence mechanism which obscures clarity. In the silent awareness of clarity, we notice the subtleties of mind jumping from one idea to another. Silence acts like a mirror; it doesn’t add anything – it just reflects the truth clearly.

When we see this in action,
this enemy becomes our teacher,
and we are no longer confused.

Seeing the confusion is clarity.

Our problem is that we don’t appreciate the relief of letting go of others’ ideas.
