THE SPIRITUAL INNER CIRCLE

The Spiritual Inner Circle

(sorry to say this)

We all want to be in the know, to be connected. Inner circles function as echo chambers that sway power, when a small elite group dictates everything and toxic dynamics take hold. Authority isn’t just about a leader; it’s about the proximity to that leader or guru or lama.

We think that the closer we get to the centre, the more ‘spiritual’ or ‘enlightened’ we’re perceived to be. This creates a culture of competitiveness and entitlement. The inner circle is the currency of approval, and members compete to please the inner circle to gain recognition.

The rank and file are micro-managed in behaviour, finances, relationships. The inner circle operates with divine immunity, often justifying their faults as echoing the behaviour of the leader – sometimes termed ‘crazy wisdom’.

The inner circle doesn’t just lead, it polices, identifying dissenters by spotting troublemakers or those asking too many questions. Social shunning dictates who is in and who is out, forcing the rest of the group to isolate anyone who challenges the status quo.

The inner circle dictates, thus losing touch with compassion. Nobody within that small group wants to be the one to disagree and risk being kicked out into the outer circle. This results in no one feeling safe enough to stop and question.

The inner ring isn’t a place of safety; it’s a place of constant insecurity.
You are only powerful as long as you are useful to the circle.
