TURNING A BLIND EYE

Turning A Blind Eye

Ignoring what is actually happening.

Turning a blind eye* refers to the act of ignoring or failing to acknowledge something we know is true, or could be true. In pretending not to notice what is happening, we will not have to do anything about it. We are deliberately ignoring undesirable information because we may have to change our way of thinking.

Through our habitual behaviour, the inner eye of consciousness becomes blind -“seeing through a glass darkly” – because of our fixation on information that is convenient to us.

Consciousness is never blind.
It knows
– and that’s why we feel uncomfortable.

How do we open the inner eye of consciousness?
By acknowledging what the blindness is doing to us.
The Buddha’s first precept was to acknowledge suffering.

Then we ask why!

*The origin of the expression ,‘turn a blind eye’, came from Admiral Nelson putting his telescope to his blind eye and saying, “I see no ships”, during the naval battle of Copenhagen in 1801.

WHITEWASH AND CLARITY

Whitewash And Clarity

Whitewash: an attempt to stop people finding out the true facts about a situation.
Clarity: the quality of transparency or purity.

Can truth be believed?

Believing something to be true doesn’t mean that we know it. We merely believe it; acceptance without proof. If we turn truth into a belief, that belief can then be amplified.

Real truth is obvious when pointed out.
Why does it need to be pointed out?
Because we have already substituted truth with a belief.

In reality, there is only one truth, and that is that we are pure, transparent consciousness.
A belief in a self is a substitute for this one truth.

As long as people are stopped from finding out their true nature, they will believe in their self-importance.

“But I see clearly!”
As long as an I-manifestation is present, we will remain an incarnation of superficial beliefs.

Whitewash covers up what’s underneath.
Clarity washes off this obscuration.

UNDERSTANDING ABSOLUTE AND RELATIVE TRUTH

Understanding Absolute And Relative Truth

Confusion comes from misunderstanding
relative truth as opposed to absolute truth.

‘Absolute’ is direct seeing, without relating or creating a concept.
‘Relative’ is how we relate to whatever is seen, and create a concept.

Absolute is the fact.
Relative is the fact checker.

If we do not know the difference through experience,
we won’t see that they are a unity, like a mirror and the reflection.

If we only acknowledge the relative,
this will have a fundamental effect on our sanity.

If we only acknowledge the absolute,
this will have a fundamental effect on our sanity.

It is in the unity of relative and absolute
that we find the sanity to deal with any situation.

The relative is a circle of confusion.
The absolute is a circle of no circumference.

HOW TO CANCEL EGO

How To Cancel Ego

Ego actually comes and goes
– although for some, it’s more of a permanent fixture!

Ego is just consciousness adhering to beliefs and maintaining a competitive state between self and others. Beliefs, like opinions and assumptions, are accepted as truth without proof; we may not know the backstory.

Drop the belief, and we are in reality. How?

Practise bringing to mind someone whom you dislike, with all those qualities that put you into a wrathful spasm of intermittent explosive disorder! 😀

Now drop that feeling altogether. Just let go as, after all, that person was once an innocent child, just like you. Rest there, at peace. Now bring the image back again, and drop it again … this is becoming familiar with the ego-effect.

When we drop beliefs and opinions about whatever we experience, we are in a state of not knowing – but there is still a knowingness present. That is consciousness. Pure knowingness/consciousness is realised through the practice of non-meditation.

Ego presents itself from time to time. When our button is pushed, this becomes the catalyst for wisdom, and the practice of reducing the effects of karma.

Ego is Mara*-activity;
When you see emotions in action, feel blessed!
😀 😀 😀

Know ego – no ego.

*Mara is the lord of negative emotions.

BANNING FREE SPEECH

Banning Free Speech

There seems to be a co-ordinated effort to ban what we say.
This will not stop what we think and how we think.
This will not stop what we see and how we see.
Even the Buddha couldn’t do that!

Unenlightened people have different views,
and so they find fault with one another.
This is a common human trait.

A silly example: UK government officials want to ban the word ‘Christmas’ so as not to offend others’ beliefs. Are these officials going to ban others’ words so as not to offend Christians?
People are always offended if we don’t think the same way as them.

This is all about being as ridiculous as possible to see how far people can be controlled in their thinking – even the Buddha couldn’t do that!

What they are doing is creating hatred by encouraging people to be offended. ‘Woke’ means being politically and socially aware = highlighting faults = fuelling hatred.

As long as people are unenlightened and don’t know their true reality, there will be natural divisions. Fuelling these divisions is part of Mara’s dividing and conquering of humanity. Mara is a self-serving agenda enacted through fashioning emotions into a society.

We need free thinking that is free of bias on our path to enlightenment.

Mara: Lord of the senses, the Lord of death, evil one.

Mara tempted Gautama before he became a Buddha, and actually helped him to gain enlightenment; it is also our guide to enlightenment.

Evil is not all bad; it is our guide!
If we are not tested, we’re just fodder for others’ purposes.
The more stumbling blocks on the path, the clearer the signs.

(For me, the reason to write a blog was because there are things I could never say in Dharma groups. I wasn’t free to speak, and had to just toe the line – to do what was expected and follow along. Once we realise that we’re actually free spirits, we have a great responsibility or duty) 🙂

GIVING UP THE GHOST

Giving Up The Ghost

A ‘ghost’ is a slight trace of something, a faint secondary image caused by a fault in an optical system – in our case, the mind behind the eyes. 😀

The ghost in the mind is our self-image that consciousness holds on to for a feeling of existence.

To the ghost, it is everything.
To the realised, this ghost/self is a faint secondary image.

How do we get from being a ghost to being realised?
A suspicion that all is not what it seems.

CONSPIRACY OF INDIFFERENCE

Conspiracy Of Indifference

Conspire: from Latin – conspirare; agree, plot
We agree to enable the plot by pretending we do not see it.

There are plotters in the world who never have enough, and if we agree to be silent or indifferent to this evil, we conspire subconsciously.

The blind leading the blind leads to chaos and confusion, while the plotters plot away.

There are those who scream and shout, but they only conspire to argue, while the plotters plot away.

Getting outside the plot is simple, but not easy. We clear the mind of plots by meditating and recognising our ignorance and indifference.

Conspiracies are not theories;
they are facts that are economical with the truth.

WHERE WE WENT WRONG

Where We Went Wrong

When we were young, we followed others in a long chain of confusion.

George Orwell’s book, “1984”, is a reality that’s happening now – a false reality, and one in which everyone is living but doesn’t know it.

Even spiritual groups can be misguiding because they act out a culture of absolute harmony without practising actual compassion. They merely enhance relative truth – that’s religion for you 🙂

Relative reality is relating to whatever is seen,
maintaining a duality that judges and lacks compassion.

Absolute reality is direct seeing of pure consciousness = non-duality/non-judgement;
it has insights into the predicaments of relative truth.

When essence becomes institutionalised,
this overshadows empathy and compassion.

Where We Go Right

Isolation from groups means that
there are no frills and no unnecessary embellishments.
We are free to ask questions, and realise answers for ourselves
without being preoccupied by whatever others think.

Dependency makes us lazy.

Realisation is confident ordinariness; it’s nothing special.

IS CONSCIOUSNESS MATERIAL OR IMMATERIAL?

Is Consciousness Material Or Immaterial?

Is consciousness created at birth?
Did God created consciousness?
Or does consciousness occupy a karmic position in space?

The way we view consciousness is fundamental
to how we conduct our life,
and how we treat others.

If we realise that, due to habitual karmic behaviour, consciousness merely occupies a position in space, then maybe bringing an end to karma also ends our fixated position in space … and we are everywhere at once 🙂

The choice is ours to contemplate.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS!

It’s All In The Details!

We may know the details of our social life,
but do we know the details of our mind?
Why we do and say what we do?

Our mind is the psychology that drives us.
Consciousness is the mind’s observer; the me.

When we realise that we are consciousness and nothing else,
the idea of ‘me’ is released into pure consciousness.

The detail of pure consciousness is that it is empty of detail.
It is the very essence of all beings which goes unnoticed.

Detail cuts us up into minor parts that create a feeling of ‘me’.

Know me = no me.

IMPOSTOR SYNDROME

Impostor Syndrome

I doubt myself.

My dad had a woodworking test at school: the test was to read the instructions and make the item. My dad made it, and then looked around and saw others making something different, so he broke up his project and threw it in the bin, and started again. The result, you can anticipate 🙂 He had no time to finish, so he failed … and so did everyone else! The right solution was either in the bin … or the instructions were wrong! 🙂

Impostor syndrome is when an individual doubts their skills and has a persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud. We are all subject to this false conclusion. Feeling anxiety or panic, we fall into fight or flight mode, or we may freeze, caused by emotional numbness.

Fight, flight and freeze are the three emotions of desire, aversion and ignorance, or attraction, repulsion and inertia. In common life, these emotions may help us to survive, but ultimately, they are negative when they become a habitual response in all situations.

Constantly comparing ourself to other people, we become instantaneously irritable and angry, and sensitive to constructive advice. When we are stuck in this state, we can feel anxious and panicky. This can cause us to over-function and have trouble switching off, clinging to perfectionism and avoiding difficult conversations.

Why do we doubt our self?
Our self is not our reality.

Our reality is consciousness that watches this self, this bunch of ideas that runs amuck. As long as we cling to ideas of ourstatus, we will think that we are an impostor; we feel vulnerable and never good enough, and so we become defensive and/or offensive. Re-acting is really a performance: we posture, behaving in a way that is intended to convey a false impression of sincerity. Often, so-called ‘spiritual teachers’ know how to do this, and most students fall for it by bowing even lower than is necessary.

Give up the impostor self.

Accept it for what it is
– our teacher.

As long as we remain a student,
we are willing to listen and learn, in an open manner.

IS LIFE PRECIOUS OR CHEAP?

Is Life Precious Or Cheap?

If life is precious, we are rich due to inner qualities.
If life is cheap, we are poor due to mundane worldliness.

If we are only concerned with worldliness, we lack insight.
If we have insight, worldliness is hell.

If we know we are in hell, we have insight.
If we do not know we are in hell, we are in hell.

WHY DO I WRITE SO MUCH?

Why Do I Write So Much?

Every day, we hear and read total nonsense which has a subconscious influence on people: this happens at an alarming rate.

There is so much ‘information’ that we just give up being critical. Machiavellian and unscrupulous politicians take advantage of our fears and hopes, and that affects our mental and physical wellbeing.

Those in authority do not care about our spiritual welfare and the clarification of consciousness. They haven’t a clue what that is because they get nothing out of it. No fame, no gain. They want us to believe in a personality instead. It doesn’t matter which side we take, as long as we are divided. The media is all about getting us to adopt a point of view and take sides, thus creating disharmony, dissatisfaction and reactions.

Unfortunately, spiritual groups offer sentimental harmony, sentimental satisfaction and sentimental reactions.

Protection from all this chaos and confusion lies in knowing that we are, first and foremost, consciousness – pure and simple. Ignorance of this knowledge is the blueprint for our reactions and behaviour.

It is our mental health that is at stake.
Been there, done that.

Information makes us pedantic
–  over-scrupulous and excessively concerned with minor details or rules
and that separates us.

Seeing is not believing; seeing is knowing.
And we need to be reminded, moment by moment.

WE ARE PROFOUND BEINGS WITH DEEP INSIGHT

We Are Profound Beings With Deep Insight

We are profound beings with deep insight.
And what do we do?!
We ‘enrich’ ourselves with trivial entertainment.
Why is that?
It’s what we are familiar with.
Why is that?
We are brought up with it.
Why is that?
Historically, evil has never wanted humanity
to become familiar with its true reality.

Evil governance wants people to live in a state of dreamy forgetfulness and idleness, spending their precious time in indulgence, rather than dealing with practical matters of truth.

We should be a contemplative society, evaluating levels of consciousness, and not binding ourselves to partisan beliefs, limping along in dull confusion.

Act like an enlightened being.
Once we are familiar with this,
profound insight raises the levels of consciousness.

Don’t take my word for this:
contemplate on it.

NONSENSE IS THROWN AT US DAILY

Nonsense Is Thrown At Us Daily

Nonsense is thrown at us daily.
We either accept it for an easy life of vacancy, or become hysterical and occupied.

As we identify with projections in the mind, constant distractions put us to sleep, and we remain unaware of the spontaneous presence of pure consciousness. It’s a form of hypnosis by the ‘news’.

When this nonsense is obvious, it awakens us to the middle way, and this is the reason why evil can never totally succeed.

There are always opposing forces which entail choices:
awaken with dignity, or be subject to denial.

Thank you, evil nonsense!
You facilitate awakening.

REALISATION NEEDS NO ORGANISATION

Realisation Needs No Organisation

Realisation is the experience of our natural state = free spirit.

If we do not realise our true reality of consciousness, free of doctrine,
we will be bound to others organising our thoughts.

Not knowing our true essence, we turn to various kinds of ‘organisations’ to run our lives for us. We may think that we’re free, but that’s just our mind going along with beliefs. It’s we who have to actually make the journey into consciousness by dropping the fixations which govern us.

We may assume that we think outside the box; we argue … and end up in a boxing match. 😀

We are free when we realise it, rather than just hear about it. Not bound to any ‘organisation’, we’re free to be unconditionally compassionate.

When we arrive at the shore of realisation, we drop the boat of mindfulness, leaving only footprints.
Others can build sand-castles …

Christ wasn’t Christian.
Buddha wasn’t Buddhist.

COMPASSION FOR THOSE WHO ARE ‘HAPPY’

Compassion For Those Who Are ‘Happy’

Compassion for those who are ‘happy’.
Empathy for those who are unhappy.

Whatever influences us is down to our karmic propensity, which due to past experiences; like attracts like. If those experiences are not enlightened experiences, they are of little value.

True compassion is running low on this planet.
We are all too ready to take sides,
and so we lack empathy for others’ plight.

The differences in our views are due to our pasts. Empathy / compassion is the middle way.

When we feel good about ourselves, we are arrogant.
When we just accept our self, we are humble and grounded.

Humble: from Latin humilis ‘low, lowly’, from humus ‘ground’.

We should never trust our views;
they are acquired from others.

Trust the view,
direct from pure consciousness.

IS LIFE RANDOM OR PERFECTLY CO-ORDINATED?

Is Life Random Or Perfectly Co-ordinated?

A leaf falls from a tree. Does it drop straight down?
Conditions dictate how and where it falls.
Even those conditions aren’t random
– they, in turn, are created by other conditions.

If we think life is unfair, we aren’t looking at patterns.
Our life is like that leaf, dictated by subtle causes and conditions.
There is a predictable pattern in apparent chaos
– and in our behaviour 🙂

If we are random in our thoughts, life seems random.
The more closely we investigate, however, the more connected everything is.
We may not investigate DNA for instance, but there are those who do.

Our body, speech and mind are caused by karmic conditions and,
if not kept in check, create further predictable karmic conditions.

The view that death is the total end affects our responses.
The view that death is another beginning affects our responses.

In this way, we understand the importance of empathy and compassion.

IT IS EGO THAT MEDITATES

It Is Ego That Meditates

Ego looks:
I want to meditate, to find happiness.

Consciousness sees:
Consciousness sees the meditator.

Pure consciousness drops the seeing:
Pure consciousness drops the meditator.

No I, no meditation, no pure consciousness, know happiness.

THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME

There’s Something Wrong With Me

I always knew there was something wrong with me. Why did I never feel right? Others ‘felt’ right, but I didn’t.

Then I wondered who it was asking this question.
The answer was what was feeling this question.

Some might say this is the mind going round in circles, which is ‘right’ for them.
When I found a teaching that said this isn’t the case, and that our reality is merely two steps back, it was a revelation.

Stepping back is the path.

We step back into consciousness
– a rare event in human society.

Stepping back into pure consciousness is even rarer
– and the right confidence arises.

MAKING THE MOST OF OURSELF

Making The Most Of Ourself

Our ‘self’ is an idea in the mind held together by memories to which consciousness clings. These memories are karma: this karma causes us confusion as we think it’s our reality, while feeling there is more to us. This is correct, but we usually skirt over this feeling and ignore it. Bad move!

Confusion is our path to enlightenment, which is held together by our memories – karma. Karma is our teacher, as we – consciousness – can see the re-enactments going on in the mind.

Our self is the dust on the mirror that obscures clarity. When we realise that there is a lens, which should be clear (and meditation is about allowing the lens to self-clean), this is where consciousness can make the most out of our self.

Practice isn’t about saying mantras nicely, and knowing all the mudras and so on; it’s a matter of seeing the clinging to concepts that do not belong in the mind – the ritualistic structure of a spiritual path, for instance. Awareness is what matters, rather than what natters! 🙂

Being at home with our self’s opinion
means that we do not take our self seriously
– but it’s still a guide to our sanity.
😀

Insane: a state of mind which prevents normal perception, behaviour, or social interaction.

BEING AWARE OF WHAT WE ARE DOING

Being Aware Of What We Are Doing

Mindfulness; the precursor to realisation.

Mindfulness:

Intention
to cultivate awareness, returning to it again and again.

Attention
to what is occurring in the present moment, simply observing
thoughts, feelings and sensations as they arise.

Attitude
that is non-judgemental, curious and kind,
leading to insight and realisation of remembering
our true nature of pure consciousness.

All actions of body, speech and mind have consequences/karma. Mindfulness is seeing this karma in action, rather it than captivating us. 🙂 What sees is consciousness. Realising this experience is pure consciousness, which drops intention, attention and attitude.

We can either go through life, bouncing from one thing to another,
recollecting our mindfulness to project on to others,
or we can use the recollecting/reminder as a teaching,
and let go.

WHY DOES BUDDHISM GO ON ABOUT SUFFERING?

Why Does Buddhism Go On About Suffering?

“I’m not suffering!”
Life is perfect for you, is it?
🙂

When the Buddha left his perfect palace, he saw suffering for the first time. He witnessed birth, old age, sickness and death.

Nowadays, we have:

Capitalism – an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit.
And autocracies/oligarchies – societies under the control of one person or a group of individuals.
And globalism – policies operated on a worldwide basis.
And technocracy– the government or control of society or industry by an elite of technical experts.
And laboratories – building equipped for scientific experiments, for the manufacture of drugs or chemicals, and whatever can be done with DNA.
And wars – a state of competition or hostility between different people or groups.
And robots – a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically.
And manipulation by the press and special interest groups– facilitating public control.
Etc etc etc …

Resulting in:
Reactions – by those who are confused.
And heavy handedness – by authorities.
And confusion, frustration and depression – caused by the activities of the above.

Although, from a truly spiritual perspective, everything is perfect due to causes and conditions, people do suffer, even if they think that they are all right.

A lack of empathy due to self-importance enables the Fourth Industrial Revolution to continue quietly apace. The real cause of suffering is the concept of a ‘self’ to which consciousness clings = ego.

Ordinary people have little egos, while those involved in the above can have huge egos. We need a little ego to survive; as long as we are aware of it, we are on the path to enlightenment!

Never be smughaving or showing an excessive pride in oneself or one’s achievements.
16th century, from Low German ‘smuk’ – pretty.

Sitting pretty on one’s special cushion/throne isn’t the path to go along.
We are all in this together.

MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING

Making Something Out Of Nothing

The essence of consciousness is emptiness
– that’s all we need to know.

By making consciousness into something,
we fall into forgetting and become divided from this reality.

Relating to some thing is duality – separatism/mixed feelings.
Before relating is pure consciousness, which is non-duality – divine splendour.

Divine: emanating from purity.
Splendour: a quality that outshines the usual.

WE DO NOT HAVE A LIFE

We Do Not Have A Life

We do not have a life:

As long as we believe that we have life and consciousness,
we will be confused about our reality,
and everything will remain a mystery.

DIVIDED

Divided

Divided: separated into parts
from Latin ‘dividere’; to force apart.

As long as we are divided, we will argue. This is precisely what evil does. It separates us from one another, and separates us from abiding in pure consciousness.

Evil divides.
Goodness unites.

Now, read the ‘news’ again.
It divides, and so conquers.

STILL LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T EXIST?

Still Looking For Something That Doesn’t Exist?

Still looking for something that doesn’t exist?
We are what we seek!
It’s that simple.

What are we?
Conscious awareness, pure and simple.

If you come up with a better answer, I’m listening 🙂

God!
Which came first; God or consciousness?

In the first moment of being aware, there is only consciousness.
This is provable.

Anything else is an act of superseding;
a replacement with something held to be superior,
therefore making consciousness (us) inferior.

Why would anyone do that?
Who determines this ‘superior’ view?

What looks?
Ego.

What sees?
Consciousness.

What drops whatever is seen?
Pure consciousness.

We are the problem – and the solution.

WE CAN MEDITATE AND STILL NOT ‘GET IT’

We Can Meditate And Still Not ‘Get It’

The purpose of this blog is to ‘get it’. Getting it, we know what it’s about, but we may need support to sustain realisation.

Unfortunately, many meditation centres look through a telescope from afar, while personal experience uses a microscope, close up, right here, right now. We can either play with a colouring book where all the lines are drawn for us and upon which we become reliant, or we can actually learn to draw.

When we become reliant on others,
we lose the ability to be independent,
and look for ourselves.

CENSORSHIP AND CANCEL CULTURE

 Censorship And Cancel Culture
The erosion of personal thinking.

People are cultivated to becoming more emotive (aroused), reactionary (conventional) or radical (revolutionary).

Want change, and don’t want change.
Like and dislike.

Those who think for themselves (outside the box) are shunned and rejected, regarded with disgust and hatred. This has become the norm in political, social, family and spiritual life where the sides are arranged.

Conversation only goes so far,
before subtle divisions occur.
😀

As long as we go along with others, we are accepted.
Neighbourhoods have their types.

Birds of a feather flock/hug/have photos together, making sure that others are kept out!
Even when new birds are introduced to the flock, these new birds in turn flock/hug/have photos together …

When we become reliant on others,
we lose the ability to be independent,
and look for ourselves.

WAKING UP TO CONSCIOUSNESS

Waking Up To Consciousness

Most of the time, our attention is on something out there, and we’re never aware of consciousness. Within consciousness is open space, clear and unbiased wisdom, but unfortunately, we walk around in a cluttered space, full of likes, dislikes and indifferences.

There are two views – conscious and unconscious. The unconscious affects our behaviour and emotions as we are on auto-pilot; this is just basic functioning. When we’re asked, “Are you conscious?” we will say, “Certainly!” and then we lapse back into unconsciousness.

When we are conscious, we realise that we are consciousness: that is the definition of consciousness, and we start to view things in a very different way. We become connected, but not attached. Life is meaningful and fruitful. We have confidence in abundance, and therefore, empathy. There are no more enemies – just teachers.

No more sleep walking.
No more moving around, performing actions
without interest, enthusiasm, or awareness of the possible consequences.

Know the difference between
consciousness
– staying awake –
and unconsciousness
– staying in the mind’s projections.

THE PROOF OF REINCARNATION

The Proof Of Reincarnation

It stands to reason, but not for everyone.
🙂

From big bangs, nebula / stardust forms to give rise to the next solar system, creating all phenomena – even our bodies. All phenomena eventually gives up the ghost to another big bang, and the cycle starts again. We can see that matter reincarnates and changes form.

What of us?

When stardust settles, the right conditions are created for single-cell forms to gradually self-replicate, facilitating more complex bodies. The human body, for instance, comprises about 10,000 billion cells. All life on Earth evolved from single-celled organisms that lived 3.5 billion years ago.

Where does consciousness come from?

Consciousness(es), like stardust, permeates the infinite universe, driven by unique personal karmic propensity and seeking somewhere habitable for that particular karma. Karma = habit!

The choice of embodiment presently available on this planet
is incomprehensible.

There is a lot of consciousness on Earth
(and we have to include roughly 525 billion sperm cells in the life of every male! :D).

Of course, some will say that consciousness is created with the body, and is just part of our chemistry. That’s okay for those who think that way, but it’s not for everyone; we each have to reason for ourselves, and live with the consequences. A body cannot exist without consciousness. Consciousness is life.

We are all born with tendencies, talents and bigotries.
Mentally, we are not all one, are we?

Why does consciousness wander?

Consciousness’s true essence is ethereal purity which is not attached to anything. It is seeking its true nature – and thus true satisfaction – but, through habit, it ends up looking for something more familiar, turning us aside and causing consciousness to solidify in a body. We are acting out this fixation right now …

It is because of this fixation that mind develops, causing the brain to build in a certain, unique way. We have been doing this from beyond time. Time only exists due to phenomena that is born, dwells and disintegrates, ready for the next transformation. In space, there is no time: it just is, like consciousness.

Reincarnation has elements or driving forces from previous incarnations.
Everything recycles, all evolving in its own good time.

Consequences make life precious.

BEFORE RELIGION

Before Religion

Absolute truth: we are purely consciousness, purely aware without commentaries or elaborations.

Adepts who realise this absolute truth express it in their own way. This expression takes the form of words. Words become actions, and actions become organised, and can evolve into a religion.

The adept should say, “Do not take my word for this; see for yourself and test it.” When we have tested it, we no longer have to hang on to being organised by religion.

Religions, texts and teachings are stepping stones – generalisations to realising the truth – but they are not the truth per se.

Religion becomes a form, a style, to house the essence of absolute truth for practitioners to realise this truth of their being. Once realised, this means giving up the form, the display of elaborations.

We can be easily institutionalised by, and thus dependent on, religion. Unfortunately, this becomes an addiction – a fear of letting go.

Once we rest in pure consciousness, there is no consciousness, no non-consciousness, no I, no religion, no Buddha, no elaborate organisation, no hierarchy, no politics … just perfect emptiness within this irritating world! 😀

Gone, gone, gone beyond …

CHOOSING OUR BATTLES

Choosing Our Battles

We ‘choose our battles’ and ‘keep our powder’ dry (ready for musket reloading) so as not to waste our precious time and energy. Thoughts can be a tool to solve a situation, or they can be used to aggrandise our self.

There are always distractions, so we needn’t make a meal of everything 🙂 If we carry around our loaded weapon of memories, we will be battling – finding fault both verbally and non-verbally – all the time, in every situation. After all, ’empty vessels make the most noise’.

As you can see, speech can be cliche-ridden, and full of unoriginal or overused ideas or phrases! 😀
But even in cliches, there are, in every culture, truisms that are dharma.

APPRECIATING OUR REALITY

Appreciating Our Reality

Appreciating that we are pure consciousness
is the only means for a better world.

Oblivious to this realisation, most of us prefer to wander around amusing ourselves with past times and hearsay, which drives us to distraction. If we could only realise how this cluttered mind obscures our profound reality …

Why is pure consciousness so fundamentally important?
It is undistracted by past times and uncontaminated by hearsay,
and so it is free to see clearly.

Seeing clearly, empathy arises for those who cannot empathise.
Empathy is only possible with practical experience.
Only then is it free of wishful thinking.

Empathy leads to compassion, and that leads to a better world.

MEDITATION CURES AGITATION AND DULLNESS

Meditation Cures Agitation and Dullness

How?

When we focus on either the breath or resting in emptiness, our attention is not elsewhere, so all other thoughts subside. When we forget to focus, thoughts come tumbling back. This is normal.

We may find that the thoughts are getting worse. They are not – we’re just noticing more. Hooray! We oscillate between thoughts and meditation but gradually, we start to value the peace and clarity that develops, and focus more without effort. Doing nothing is a relief; it’s like sitting down with a cup of tea, and relaxing.

This practice gradually influences our reactions to everything we encounter in daily life. We become more alive, the senses are more acute, and we are less agitated/occupied or dull/vacant: we may feel the agitation arising but, in being aware of that, it subsides.

When we come out of meditation, agitation and dullness are still waiting for us, as this is the world in which we live. But now, we can cope a little better. We realise that everything is impermanent and that people are still agitated and dull, but this is where compassion arises through empathy. Been there, done that! We realise that we cannot change whatever is happening in the world, as there will always be actions and reactions.

From time to time, we may feel jaded and lacking in enthusiasm, and that’s okay. We just need a break, so we meditate some more! 😀

Don’t expect angels, cherubims or dakinis to descend;
they are part of someone else’s vision.

The light of clarity is all we need.
When we meditate, it shows.

WE ARE GOVERNED BY THE GULLIBLE

We Are Governed By The Gullible

The gullible is the majority
who accepts whatever it is told.

As long as we do not question,
we do not know what we are agreeing to.

PROVE THE DHARMA WRONG

Prove The Dharma Wrong

Dharma is the universal law or code of reality.
It is not a belief or religion.

How does one disprove consciousness?

We have to use the Sanskrit word ‘Dharma’
because there is no equivalent word in the modern world
for the law or code of reality.

We talk of other things instead.

WE PARTICIPATE IN OUR OWN FATE

We Participate In Our Own Fate

“As we sow, so we reap.”
Perfect karma.

Every decision we make has consequences.
Every word we speak has consequences.
Every concept we hold has consequences.

Every aspect of body, speech and mind has consequences.
Indifference has consequences.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR NAME

You Don’t Have To Leave Your Name

If you want to make a comment, you don’t have to leave your name or email address. That is for WordPress’s … something 🙂 You will just come up as ‘anonymous’ or ‘someone’ – as I often do with my second thoughts, so as not to clutter up the main article – but you can end your comment with whatever name you choose to give – or not.

Feel free to comment or disagree,
it’s how we make progress.

Someone once left a comment – “No,”.
“No,” ?!
I was intrigued.
Not about the “No” but about the comma.
Did the comma mean something?
Had they changed their mind halfway through?
Did they just press the wrong key?!

I’d love to know what you really feel 🙂
Feedback is how we adapt to the moment.

LET’S GET DEPRESSED!

Let’s Get Depressed!

People get depressed because of confusion and doubt about their reality, and all society can do is give them a ‘pill’ to take, or talk them back into the state where they became depressed in the first place. This is why people are so predictable.

Feeling that there is more to life than whatever those influencers around us are pointlessly exuberant about, we can fall into darkness. Not to find an answer can feel really depressing.

We have to follow and have courage in our intuitive spirit: that spark in the darkness that others just do not see because they’re too busy admiring the outer glitter. And does it really make them happy?

Relief from suffering is experiencing the freedom from sentimental limitations. Suddenly, talents that had been hidden break through the fear of conformity.

There is a personal intuition that we should followed,
rather than surrendering to collective dogma.

Life is too short to live in doubt.
Gain confidence in the one point
– that we are pure consciousness.

Does this sound personal?
😀

MANIPULATION OF EMOTIONS

Manipulation Of Emotions

We are emotional beings :D, and we must first recognise that emotions are present in every encounter. But what ’emotions’?

A thought becomes a fixation when we cling to it – and there is the emotion.

Others may be able to manipulate our emotions in order to get a reaction. That works, but we mustn’t run away with the idea that emotions are just negative. Understanding this is why evil can never, ever totally succeed; evil can take over the majority, but a few will always see through the charade.

In the very first instant when we realise ‘something is afoot’ (happening or beginning), consciousness suddenly illumines … “What’s this?!” That moment of not knowing is wisdom, as in a wise person admitting that they do not know. All the while, there is a knowingness of consciousness present.

The more evil tries to manipulate, the more we brighten up!
The more we are confused, the more enlightened we become!

Pure consciousness is just there … staring :O 😀 !

EVERYTHING IS APPROPRIATE

Everything Is Appropriate

Karma is perfect.
The law of cause and effect is perfect.
Perfect ignorance, perfect karma.
Perfect wisdom, perfect karma.

“This is perfect, that is perfect.
Perfect comes from perfect.
When perfect is taken from perfect,
perfect still remains.”

Isha Upanishad

Perfectfrom Latin perfectus, ‘completed’.

We are ruled by universal perfection, and there is no escape. All actions are complete in karma, and there’s no getting away from it. Everything comes about through cause and effect. Whether our intention is unconscious or conscious, there will be a result that is perfect for that situation.

The perfect laws are emptiness, consciousness and compassion. When ignored, these become the perfect gross laws of desire, aversion and indifference.

“A man who, on a icy path, ignores the laws of caution, comes under the laws of gravity.”
– C.S. Lewis.

Truth did not originate with the Buddha: he merely realised it.
The Buddha was brought up with the Upanishads.

We are all perfect Buddhas
dwelling in perfect ignorance.

WHEN WE ACTUALLY SEE

When We Actually See

When we actually see, we see the opposite everywhere:

Pure view / impure view.
Enlightened / unenlightened.
Conscious / unconscious.
Care / don’t care.
Good / evil.

Whatever is presented,
the opposite is also presented.

Once we see, we see that we didn’t see.

WE LIVE IN LEVELS OF WORRY

We Live In Levels Of Worry

Worry is being anxious, troubled and uncertain over actual or potential outcomes.

When meeting another person, we may feel nervous or uneasy, wondering if it’s safe to talk about hopes and fears. There is a moment of blankness, and then we find ourselves falling into the mundane.

It’s as if we are living on a planet where certain matters are not spoken about: not speaking about worries doesn’t mean that the worries go away.

A question is asked to elicit information.
If we have no questions,
do we think there are no questions to ask?

We live in levels of ignorance.

Fools know everything,
except their ignorance.

Pure consciousness is absent of ignorance.

IS BUDDHISM ABNORMAL?

Is Buddhism Abnormal?

Normal: conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.
Abnormal: deviating from what is normal, typical, or expected.

We have a choice “whether to suffer the slings and arrow of outrageous fortune or take arms against a sea of troubles and, by opposing, end them.” Bad things happen in life, and are the reason to walk away to contemplate, to understand.

Most of us are excited about taking sides, arguing this or that point and dividing ourselves from one another.

This is our normal.
This is our normal?

Buddhism takes a different view from rigid theism and atheism.
It is the middle way, neither something nor nothing.

Consciousness is not a thing that can be said to exist,
but nether can we deny that a knowingness is present.

INDEPENDENT THINKING

Independent Thinking

This may sound strange as we assume that we are already independent thinkers, but it is only when we start asking questions about our self, that we can actually start to be independent. Otherwise, we are just going along with the collective, hoping ‘they’ are right. It’s quite a shock to realise that, with the best intention, we haven’t an original thought in our head. :-O

Independent: free from outside control; not subject to another’s authority.

All that is needed is to realise where our thinking came from.
That is independent thinking.

Freedom is freedom from our mind’s memories.
Now, we realise the psychological prison we have been living in.

WELL-BEING IS ACCEPTANCE

Well-Being Is Acceptance

Well-being isn’t about change for something better.
It’s about understanding and refining
what is actually already present.

Being angry for change merely brings about more anger.

We are not going to change the world;
we merely have to refine our understanding of it.

BEING AT PEACE WITH YOUR SELF

Being At Peace With Your Self

It’s a nice place to be.

This isn’t about being smug; it’s a matter of building genuine confidence. Our self is a programmed effect in the mind born from our early environment. The quality of our hopes and fears creates the way we see life, and this is established in those early years. Even if we react against them, they have had their effect.

In our investigations, we accept our self, warts and all; if we want to realise the ultimate truth, we have to accept evidence from all sides. This self is our karmic path to enlightenment. The enlightened state is pure consciousness – that’s what we really are. It’s not a big jump. In fact, it’s not a jump at all, because it is pure consciousness that acknowledges this self acting out its script. 🙂

My self is an untidy worker. It wants to be mindful and neat, but it’s too enthusiastic, and consciousness merely reminds ‘me’ to tidy up so that I can find my screwdriver next time. 😀

So enthusiasm takes over; I’m okay with that.
Being true to our self is accepting that its hopes, fears and indifference will be present, alongside pure consciousness that sees self’s delusions as the path.

They work as one.

Big 🙂
