GREED: NEVER ENOUGH = HUNGRY GHOSTS

Greed: Never Enough = Hungry Ghosts

Greed: intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food.

Pretas, or ‘hungry ghosts’, are beings who are tormented by desire that can never be sated. They are often portrayed with tiny mouths and throats and the swollen bellies of the starving, meaning that they can never consume enough to ease the suffering of their hunger.

Screenshot 2022-12-26 at 18.30.16

Buddhist cosmology identifies six realms of existence: gods, demi-gods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts and hells (note that hungry ghosts are one up from hell!).

The mega-wealthy never have enough.
They want to absorb consciousness as well,
but do not realise its vastness.

For more information on the six realms, type “Six realms” in the search box below.

DO CONVERTS BECOME EXTREME?

Do Converts Become Extreme?

Adopting a view of life has its effects.
Changing one’s view of life has its effects.
Purely viewing life has no effect.

Effect comes later,
when we express this pure view 🙂

If we change to acquire knowledge and better understanding, we grow in empathy.
If we take up a side to disassociate from others, we lack empathy.

We don’t convert.
We remain as we are, and look more deeply.
In doing so, empathy arises.

Empathy means the ability to understand and share the feelings of another; if we have empathy, we can never become extreme.

DIVISION = DIVIDED UP

Division = Divided Up

Division: from Latin, dividere ‘force apart, remove’.

Being encouraged to identify with a self-image, group, or race, we are divided and removed from our natural reality of perfect peace – our common sense.

Throughout history, people have been led to believe that they are ‘something’. That, in itself, shows the ploy of duality or division.

Nowadays, we are ordered to accept diversity and to be inclusive. That manipulation creates division, and is an oxymoron when we consider that we are told to believe in something.

Situations are created to have long-term effects.

Never just accept what is said; look at the effects.
This is why it is wise to repeat the Buddha’s words:
“Do not take my word for it; see for yourself.”
😀

PS this article is part of the warming-up-to-reality series of being played and taken advantage of,
which is the reason why we need to clear and tame our minds through meditation.

OUR GREAT PROTECTOR IS KNOWING CONSCIOUSNESS

Our Great Protector Is Knowing Consciousness

Never forget how much effort has gone into obscuring our natural immunity/protection from the ignorance that makes us reliant. Natural immunity is realising our true reality of pure consciousness. It is seeing clearly without the infestation of conditioning, which is the opposite of wisdom.

Some of us are far too clever, and some are far too indifferent; both obscure our simple reality.
Scholars get bored and over-elaborate existence, while others get bored with those over-elaborations.

Truth makes ego feel uncomfortable.
That is conscience
– our protector.

THREE REASONS TO WAKE UP

Three Reasons To Wake Up

Three reasons to wake up from social conditioning.

One; recognise divine insight, rather than accepting a mundane existence.
Two; recognise that which obscures this insight, which is accepting a mundane existence.
Three; recognise the tremendous effort to keep us in a mundane existence

Oh, and there is a fourth;
recognise that we are supramundane and content,
but believe that we aren’t!

Have a different day.

IF WE FEEL ALONE, WE’RE NOT ALONE

If We Feel Alone, We’re Not Alone

We are individual consciousness,
divided by the mind (concepts)
and united by the heart (pure consciousness).

If we were one consciousness, when one person became enlightened, we would all become enlightened, but that doesn’t happen!

We have to work at recognition.
Being alone is being without stress.
Have a really relaxing day.

KNOWING THE WORLD WE LIVE IN

Knowing The World We Live In

Knowing the world we live in,
and why we really have to wake up.

Whatever is presented to us has the opposite effect and is meant to;
this was the key to George Orwell’s prophetic book, “1984”.

The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war; the Ministry of Truth with lies; the Ministry of Love with division and the Ministry of Plenty with rationing. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink.

Where Orwell got his theme from:
“The use of contradictory names in this manner may have been inspired by the British and American governments; during the Second World War, the British Ministry of Food oversaw rationing (the name “Ministry of Food Control” was used in World War I) and the Ministry of Information restricted and controlled information, rather than supplying it. In the US, the War Department was abolished and replaced with the “National Military Establishment” in 1947, and then became the Department of Defense in 1949, right around the time that “1984” was published.”
(from Wikipedia)

All events in the media, advertising and even religion portray images that are counter to the reality, trying to make us appear inclusive when they actually create division.

This not only plays with our bias and confusion, it misdirects consciousness always to look the other way, rather than within. Deceit is a war on consciousness, and always has been.

Nano-ideas are placed in our subconscious.

Once we know the truth of our reality,
nano-ideas are easy to spot on the face of ‘health & safety’.
Appearances and recognition are simultaneous to pure consciousness.

WARMED UP AND READY TO GO

Warmed Up And Ready To Go

Once we are warmed up, we are ready to go.

Having a good enough understanding of pure consciousness and whatever obscures it, we are ready to face life – our constant teacher – on our own. We don’t have to keep going back to a centre for warming up: we can jog, run, skid, adjust – and still keep going.

Never doubt either what we are, or our abilities.

If we feel that we have to keep returning to a guru, we are relying on the guru to jog, run and skid for us. The more we read and hear, the more attached or fastened we become. The more we doubt, the more we will return.

We can be just as confident and cute as a guru.

Being cute means being attractive in an endearing way,
but also clever and shrewd.

The qualities of cute are the very qualities
we
need on our path to enlightenment.

ENCOURAGED TO TAKE OFFENCE AT SELF-IDENTITY

Encouraged To Take Offence At Self-Identity

As long as people are encouraged to believe in an image of themselves, they will never realise the real thing – that we are, first and foremost, consciousness, pure and simple with no identity. The belief in a self-identity causes division, and is meant to. Even school children gang up = politics.

Why?

If we could realise our unity, we would be kind to one another, and there would be no chaos or confusion. As long as we feel different, we will suffer, and others will profit from it.

Take language: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, old Norse/Scandinavian … they all seem very different but, at their root, they have a commonality, just with different pronunciations. Once we know the trick of substituting sounds, we can get the gist of what is meant, more or less. It’s shown that Germans can probably understand old English better than the English can. 🙂

Nowadays, gender and race are added to the ingredients of confusion, and you may even be shunned or arrested for that confusion. Evil takes any small friction and exaggerates it. It’s how hatred and wars are started. It’s political = group bias.
Shunning: to persistently avoid, ignore, or reject someone.
From Old English scunian ‘abhor, shrink back with fear, seek safety from an enemy’.
This is especially prevalent within spiritual groups …

Know thy true self to be pure consciousness.

“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
– Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Our reaction is our constant teacher,
and is always with us.

Everyone has experienced every emotion possible,
and that is why we can empathise
– if we are honest.

Does Fear Make People Deaf?

Fear is created by belief.

If we believe, we are deaf,
and we will not hear other possibilities.

WE CREATE OUR CONSEQUENCES

We Create Our Consequences

Every moment has consequences:
a continuity for the next moment.

When we are mindful,
that continuity is dynamic and humorous.
When we ignore,
that continuity lacks empathy and potential.

Thinking that we don’t have to bother about all that,
our life will manifest this attitude.

Knowing that every moment has consequences,
we are aware of whatever we do and say.

The path to enlightenment is a series of refining consequences.
Consequence: from Latin consequentia, ‘following closely’.

That’s karma for you 🙂

CONSCIOUSNESS MATTERS

Consciousness Matters

Where would we be without consciousness?
We wouldn’t be anywhere.

We are consciousness.
In looking for consciousness, we won’t find anything.
Why?

Because it is consciousness that is looking.
In silent stillness, this is obvious.

We’re usually unaware of our reality of consciousness
because we are too busy, engaged in other things.

Meditation isn’t posturing; it is just being aware.
Why does consciousness matter?

Consciousness either relates to whatever it sees,
turning life a sitcom of relative truth
or
realising that it has the inspiring ability to be enlightened,
full of originality of absolute truth.

Meditation is just being aware of awareness.
Nothing ritualised, recognising all distractions.

Without distractions, life is less cluttered,
creating space for contemplation and insight to dawn.

Enlightenment isn’t about achievements.
It’s about emptying a fussy mind –
a hard-to-please mind, fastidious about its requirements.

Consciousness matters.
It’s how we know.

WHY I WRITE A BLOG

Why I Write A Blog

Life is about getting to the point of why we are here, staying with that point, and seeing how that point refines through experience. We cannot assume that, by just reading or hearing teaching, we get it. We may recognise some truth, but that is incomplete. The complete truth is personal realisation; it’s not a second hand copy. 🙂 Thank goodness.

There have been numerous traditions throughout history, and so there is a slim chance of coming up with something new. The only thing that is new is personal experiences through being still in meditation.

We may hope that there is something more special, but that would be lazy and arrogant, and is a substitute for actually taking our first step. It also means that we don’t understand what’s available.

When we analyse all teachings on an esoteric level, they are the same – non-duality, not me-and-some-story, which is duality. It’s like reading text or hearing teachings and thinking. “Oh I get it!”

Realisation is, we are it, without comment. That is wisdom.

Which path we choose will be up to karma – our tendency of like attracts like – but that can change as we evolve. Thank goodness.

I have been involved in ‘consciousness matters’ for some fifty years; I’m 76 now, and my early life was very confused. It was confused all the while I attended ‘spiritual’ groups. Why? The form seemed more important to others than the essence. The result of realising our essence of pure consciousness is empathy and compassion but, in these groups, there was very little – just dogma, rigidly falling in line, and clothed in elaborations. That is exoteric understanding. We don’t have to learn others’ languages: realisation is beyond words. Elaborations turn spirituality into politics, improving one’s status within an organisation. Have you looked at Buddhist forums? Terrible places! 😀

This is why the Buddha said,
“Do not take my word for it; test it for yourself.”

The essence of this blog in basically the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism – Dzogchen – but expressed within a modern, native culture. We can be town yogis quite happily, and no one knows what we’re up to. 🙂

Our purpose is to recognise consciousness that leads to pure consciousness. That’s what we are. Meditation leads to non-meditation, complete knowledge.

Questions are very welcome because they are our guide.
I question everything that I write.

I have no status, thank goodness, so don’t believe a word.:D
We are all fake, except in pure consciousness.

Realising this creates our path to enlightenment.

LET’S START AT THE BEGINNING

Let’s Start At The Beginning

Why are we here?
Why are we here, in this body, on this Earth, reading this page?

This blog is coming to the end of its tenth year, so why not start again? But before we can start again, we need a warm-up. And that’s exactly how we got here – previous warm ups!
Warm up: to loosen up.

To prove that we’ve previously warmed up and loosened our minds, we need to see that we have 75% experience, 20% reasoning and 5% conjecture – more or less, as our experience changes. To even be reading this sort of thing means that you are a long way along the line of experience 🙂

We are confused about our true reality. Most will say, “We’re here because we’re here, because we’re here – and when we go, we’re gone.”

Ancient teachings state that we’re here for a reason, to go beyond – gone, gone, gone. 🙂

If you’re viewing this page, it proves and stands to reason that you’ve already warmed up, and have an enquiring mind. We’re here to prove and realise our true reality, rather than just believing what we are told about it.

So we have a choice:
Is there a reason we’re here, or isn’t there? And how urgent is the need for an answer?
If we recognise our inner warmth – kindness – we have a very good start! 😀

And we don’t have to become anything.

CONFUSION, AND THEN DOUBT, AND THEN ANGER

Confusion, And Then Doubt, And Then Anger

It’s not all our fault. 😀

We live in a culture of compromise, within an organisation. Organisations become institutions, and participants become institutionalised and dependent. Most are the silent majority who fit into this way of thinking. This how the minority rules the majority, instigated by the exclusive inner circle.

Each of us has a natural flow which has to be curtailed to fit into a culture, but that isn’t our natural way. We have to accept this, but they do not have to accept us, and so, we can become confused, doubtful and perhaps angry.

The strange thing is that, nowadays, we are having more and more differences thrown at us, and so we have to fit in with minorities.

There comes a time when we outgrow organised factions and wonder what to do then. We all become confused at others’ antics, and doubt ourselves at some time; this is normal.

What do we do when we become angry?
Hint: consider being an organisation of one.
When we are true to our reality, we cannot be false to anyone.

“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Polonius is telling Laertes that being honest with oneself is more important than anything else and, if we’re honest with ourself, we will necessarily be honest to others.

We don’t worry about living by someone else’s standards or rules.
We do not doubt our conclusion or what others think of us.
We live as a natural being, without compromise.
No one can tell us how to be true to ourself except us.

What is ‘ourself?’

It is only in silent stillness that we are released.

The more we refine,
the more we return to our natural reality.

SLEEPWALKING IN THE MIND

Sleepwalking In The Mind

Sleepwalking: engaging in an activity without interest, enthusiasm, or awareness of the possible consequences.

We often do and say things mechanically, just going through the motions, and merely achieving more of the same. This could be synonymous with vertical thinking:

“Vertical thinking is selection by exclusion.
One works within a frame of reference.

With lateral thinking, one realises
that something cannot be restructured from within itself
but only as the result of some outside influence.”
– Edward De Bono

The outside influence is the realisation that consciousness beyond thought is present, and sees everything afresh, engaging in activities with interest, enthusiasm and awareness of the possible consequences.

Just stop, and only proceed when inspired.

KARMIC RESIDUE

Karmic Residue

Residue: something that remains which we thought we’d left behind.

We engage with others, which will have an effect and a consequence – a residue. This residue can become a demon, waiting in ambush to be re-activated. If we hold on to any feeling, we become the demon. If, however, we recognise this and face it by not reacting, the demon melts away all by itself. Karma is like that.

For a moment, we are in no man’s land,
a very good place to be.
🙂

Stopped in our tracks, we can watch all residue melt away
… until the next time … 😀

This is the path to enlightenment!

Craft is discipline, study and meditation.
Art is skilful empathy in all situations.

WE ARE THE WAY WE ARE

We Are The Way We Are

We’ve come out the way we have because of our ingredients.
Those ingredients are karma – the result of previous experiences and reactions.

What do we do then?
We change the ingredients by dropping old karma – habitual reactions.

How do we do that?
By being aware of the effect our previous experiences are having on us now.

Does it work?
This depends on the individual, but the Buddha did say that the first precept is to acknowledge suffering.

But I’m not suffering!
As long as an I is involved, we will take things personally, and therefore, we’re in conflict and suffer.

So, what do we do now?
See if our ingredients are fresh. Fresh experiences is always present, when we don’t just react with the same old ingredients.

We are what we are when we just is 😀

WE ALL KNOW, BUT WE IGNORE THAT WE KNOW

We All Know, But We Ignore That We Know

We all know but, for convenience,
we ignore that we know by believing conventionality.

We are so intent on knowing about things ‘out there’ that we are indifferent to what is going on in our own minds, creating our behaviour. We react – or rather, re-enact – without coming to a personal conclusion. In this way, we never gain true confidence, and are unaware that we are playing and re-playing the same game.

Evil has long term plans, and always has. Our thoughts are definitely not our own. Within ‘politics’, there are deliberate, hidden agendas. We are being bounced around, reacting to ‘stupidity’. There are hidden agendas within every walk of life – we buy into what we don’t need, but are half-convinced that we do. Religion is no different.

The essence of spirituality is the unity of everything; a uni-verse of non-duality.
Universe; Latin universum, ‘combined into one’.

Hidden elaborations make the universe into a multiverse;
dividing it up and breaking down non-duality into duality.

To even be alive, there must be knowingness present, ie consciousness. That is our unity, the good heart. But we ignore this in favour of taking sides, and consciousness translates this into knowing something about some thing.

We all have a conscience – a sense of right and wrong, of what wellbeing is, and of what harms wellbeing. But when we ignore this universal wellbeing, then the story is all about me.

Evil knows what it wants.
Goodness knows what we all want.

IS THE WORLD CRAZY?

Is The World Crazy?

Is it the world, or is it people?
What are we in conflict with?

We are unenlightened beings, so it stands to reason that we don’t see eye-to-eye, and there is conflict in every encounter. Or is that just me? 🙂

In the pursuit of wisdom and total satisfaction, we need to be sceptical about everything. This questioning isn’t so that we can enhance our pet bias; it’s to get to the absolute truth.

Ultimately, we aren’t in conflict with others – we are in conflict with ourselves, and the partial ideas that we hold on to.

Once we are totally satisfied, we gain confidence, not in an arrogant way but in a genuinely empathic way.

Enlightenment starts with a spark.
A spark is caused by friction.
Another word for ‘friction’ is conflict.

Teachings are about clarity in conflict:
the union of the two truths.

Skeptic: a person inclined to question or doubt accepted opinions.

ONLY EGO GETS UPSET

Only Ego Gets Upset

The only thing that gets upset is the ego.
Ego – aka ‘I’ mind-associations that consciousness clings to and fixates upon.
Every time we say ‘I’, we reinforce ego’s opinions.

Consciousness, in its natural state, has no ego,
and cannot get upset
when it realises that it has no associations.

The purpose of meditation: perfect psychology to see this in action.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR TRUTH FROM?

Where Do You Get Your Truth From?

The news?
The government?
Religion?
Science?
Chit-chat?
Each discipline has different views.

There is no truth out there.
Original truth is that which sees.

That which is out there is intent on obscuring that which sees.
As long as we believe the truth to be out there,
we will run around in circles, looking for it.

We are what we seek.
Truth starts with our seeing
and ends with pure seeing.

We are the Alpha and Omega.

DO YOU GET UPSET?

Do You Get Upset?

It is only ego/I that gets upset. Ego, or I, is created by consciousness that fixates on ideas and becomes a brittle self-image. It is precisely because of this self-identity that we judge others – me right, they wrong 😀

Original consciousness is never upset; it just sees.
The ‘I’ doesn’t just see; it seethes.
It keeps boiling, filled with intense but unexpressed anger.

The recognition of being upset is the Buddha’s first precept on the path to enlightenment. Only then can we look for the origin of this upset-ness or suffering = ego! Bingo!

ARE ‘SPIRITUAL’ CENTRES CULTS?

Are ‘Spiritual’ Centres Cults?

Is there a culture of charismatic personality?
Charismatic:exercising a compelling charm which inspires devotion in others.

The Buddha did not advise,
“Do not take my word for it; test it for yourself,”
for no reason.

BEING OF GOOD HUMOUR

Being Of Good Humour

Kind-hearted with sadness.
Spontaneous moments of recognition.
Concepts melt, and the mind becomes moist.

Inspired by ignorance.
Not taking our self seriously.
Realisation of wisdom.

Gratitude for letting go of past fears.
Realisation that we have empathy.
Confidence.

Letting go of grudges.
Good mental disposition.

Understanding indifference.
Understanding rigidity.
Understanding self.

Appreciating the laws of the universe:
attraction, repulsion and indifference = emptiness, cognisance and compassion.

Good humour, good story.
The big shock … everyone is enlightening!

Or is this just a good guess? 🙂

IS DISBELIEF HATRED?

Is Disbelief Hatred?

Perhaps the opposite is the case;
that those who disbelieve are hated.

Disbelief: the inability or refusal to accept that something is true or real.
Doesn’t that say everything?

People acquire beliefs about themselves,
and beware, anyone who says anything different 🙂

That would be heresy.
Heresy: an opinion, doctrine, or practice
contrary to the truth or to generally accepted beliefs or standards.

Can you see how disbelief and heresy are actually the same,
but are used in different contexts?

We are born with the right to question everything,
even our sense of reality.

Why would anyone incite us to cling to a belief?
Beliefs become exaggerated, and allow narratives to be amplified.

The truth never changes.
Pure consciousness just is.

TURNING A BLIND EYE

Turning A Blind Eye

Ignoring what is actually happening.

Turning a blind eye* refers to the act of ignoring or failing to acknowledge something we know is true, or could be true. In pretending not to notice what is happening, we will not have to do anything about it. We are deliberately ignoring undesirable information because we may have to change our way of thinking.

Through our habitual behaviour, the inner eye of consciousness becomes blind -“seeing through a glass darkly” – because of our fixation on information that is convenient to us.

Consciousness is never blind.
It knows
– and that’s why we feel uncomfortable.

How do we open the inner eye of consciousness?
By acknowledging what the blindness is doing to us.
The Buddha’s first precept was to acknowledge suffering.

Then we ask why!

*The origin of the expression ,‘turn a blind eye’, came from Admiral Nelson putting his telescope to his blind eye and saying, “I see no ships”, during the naval battle of Copenhagen in 1801.

WHITEWASH AND CLARITY

Whitewash And Clarity

Whitewash: an attempt to stop people finding out the true facts about a situation.
Clarity: the quality of transparency or purity.

Can truth be believed?

Believing something to be true doesn’t mean that we know it. We merely believe it; acceptance without proof. If we turn truth into a belief, that belief can then be amplified.

Real truth is obvious when pointed out.
Why does it need to be pointed out?
Because we have already substituted truth with a belief.

In reality, there is only one truth, and that is that we are pure, transparent consciousness.
A belief in a self is a substitute for this one truth.

As long as people are stopped from finding out their true nature, they will believe in their self-importance.

“But I see clearly!”
As long as an I-manifestation is present, we will remain an incarnation of superficial beliefs.

Whitewash covers up what’s underneath.
Clarity washes off this obscuration.

UNDERSTANDING ABSOLUTE AND RELATIVE TRUTH

Understanding Absolute And Relative Truth

Confusion comes from misunderstanding
relative truth as opposed to absolute truth.

‘Absolute’ is direct seeing, without relating or creating a concept.
‘Relative’ is how we relate to whatever is seen, and create a concept.

Absolute is the fact.
Relative is the fact checker.

If we do not know the difference through experience,
we won’t see that they are a unity, like a mirror and the reflection.

If we only acknowledge the relative,
this will have a fundamental effect on our sanity.

If we only acknowledge the absolute,
this will have a fundamental effect on our sanity.

It is in the unity of relative and absolute
that we find the sanity to deal with any situation.

The relative is a circle of confusion.
The absolute is a circle of no circumference.

HOW TO CANCEL EGO

How To Cancel Ego

Ego actually comes and goes
– although for some, it’s more of a permanent fixture!

Ego is just consciousness adhering to beliefs and maintaining a competitive state between self and others. Beliefs, like opinions and assumptions, are accepted as truth without proof; we may not know the backstory.

Drop the belief, and we are in reality. How?

Practise bringing to mind someone whom you dislike, with all those qualities that put you into a wrathful spasm of intermittent explosive disorder! 😀

Now drop that feeling altogether. Just let go as, after all, that person was once an innocent child, just like you. Rest there, at peace. Now bring the image back again, and drop it again … this is becoming familiar with the ego-effect.

When we drop beliefs and opinions about whatever we experience, we are in a state of not knowing – but there is still a knowingness present. That is consciousness. Pure knowingness/consciousness is realised through the practice of non-meditation.

Ego presents itself from time to time. When our button is pushed, this becomes the catalyst for wisdom, and the practice of reducing the effects of karma.

Ego is Mara*-activity;
When you see emotions in action, feel blessed!
😀 😀 😀

Know ego – no ego.

*Mara is the lord of negative emotions.

BANNING FREE SPEECH

Banning Free Speech

There seems to be a co-ordinated effort to ban what we say.
This will not stop what we think and how we think.
This will not stop what we see and how we see.
Even the Buddha couldn’t do that!

Unenlightened people have different views,
and so they find fault with one another.
This is a common human trait.

A silly example: UK government officials want to ban the word ‘Christmas’ so as not to offend others’ beliefs. Are these officials going to ban others’ words so as not to offend Christians?
People are always offended if we don’t think the same way as them.

This is all about being as ridiculous as possible to see how far people can be controlled in their thinking – even the Buddha couldn’t do that!

What they are doing is creating hatred by encouraging people to be offended. ‘Woke’ means being politically and socially aware = highlighting faults = fuelling hatred.

As long as people are unenlightened and don’t know their true reality, there will be natural divisions. Fuelling these divisions is part of Mara’s dividing and conquering of humanity. Mara is a self-serving agenda enacted through fashioning emotions into a society.

We need free thinking that is free of bias on our path to enlightenment.

Mara: Lord of the senses, the Lord of death, evil one.

Mara tempted Gautama before he became a Buddha, and actually helped him to gain enlightenment; it is also our guide to enlightenment.

Evil is not all bad; it is our guide!
If we are not tested, we’re just fodder for others’ purposes.
The more stumbling blocks on the path, the clearer the signs.

(For me, the reason to write a blog was because there are things I could never say in Dharma groups. I wasn’t free to speak, and had to just toe the line – to do what was expected and follow along. Once we realise that we’re actually free spirits, we have a great responsibility or duty) 🙂

GIVING UP THE GHOST

A ‘ghost’ is a slight trace of something, a faint secondary image caused by a fault in an optical system – in our case, the mind behind the eyes. 😀

The ghost in the mind is our self-image that consciousness holds on to for a feeling of existence.

To the ghost, it is everything.
To the realised, this ghost/self is a faint secondary image.

How do we get from being a ghost to being realised?
A suspicion that all is not what it seems.

CONSPIRACY OF INDIFFERENCE

Conspiracy Of Indifference

Conspire: from Latin – conspirare; agree, plot
We agree to enable the plot by pretending we do not see it.

There are plotters in the world who never have enough, and if we agree to be silent or indifferent to this evil, we conspire subconsciously.

The blind leading the blind leads to chaos and confusion, while the plotters plot away.

There are those who scream and shout, but they only conspire to argue, while the plotters plot away.

Getting outside the plot is simple, but not easy. We clear the mind of plots by meditating and recognising our ignorance and indifference.

Conspiracies are not theories;
they are facts that are economical with the truth.

WHERE WE WENT WRONG

Where We Went Wrong

When we were young, we followed others in a long chain of confusion.

George Orwell’s book, “1984”, is a reality that’s happening now – a false reality, and one in which everyone is living but doesn’t know it.

Even spiritual groups can be misguiding because they act out a culture of absolute harmony without practising actual compassion. They merely enhance relative truth – that’s religion for you 🙂

Relative reality is relating to whatever is seen,
maintaining a duality that judges and lacks compassion.

Absolute reality is direct seeing of pure consciousness = non-duality/non-judgement;
it has insights into the predicaments of relative truth.

When essence becomes institutionalised,
this overshadows empathy and compassion.

Where We Go Right

Isolation from groups means that
there are no frills and no unnecessary embellishments.
We are free to ask questions, and realise answers for ourselves
without being preoccupied by whatever others think.

Dependency makes us lazy.

Realisation is confident ordinariness; it’s nothing special.

IS CONSCIOUSNESS MATERIAL OR IMMATERIAL?

Is Consciousness Material Or Immaterial?

Is consciousness created at birth?
Did God created consciousness?
Or does consciousness occupy a karmic position in space?

The way we view consciousness is fundamental
to how we conduct our life,
and how we treat others.

If we realise that, due to habitual karmic behaviour, consciousness merely occupies a position in space, then maybe bringing an end to karma also ends our fixated position in space … and we are everywhere at once 🙂

The choice is ours to contemplate.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS!

It’s All In The Details!

We may know the details of our social life,
but do we know the details of our mind?
Why we do and say what we do?

Our mind is the psychology that drives us.
Consciousness is the mind’s observer; the me.

When we realise that we are consciousness and nothing else,
the idea of ‘me’ is released into pure consciousness.

The detail of pure consciousness is that it is empty of detail.
It is the very essence of all beings which goes unnoticed.

Detail cuts us up into minor parts that create a feeling of ‘me’.

Know me = no me.

IMPOSTOR SYNDROME

Impostor Syndrome

I doubt myself.

My dad had a woodworking test at school: the test was to read the instructions and make the item. My dad made it, and then looked around and saw others making something different, so he broke up his project and threw it in the bin, and started again. The result, you can anticipate 🙂 He had no time to finish, so he failed … and so did everyone else! The right solution was either in the bin … or the instructions were wrong! 🙂

Impostor syndrome is when an individual doubts their skills and has a persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud. We are all subject to this false conclusion. Feeling anxiety or panic, we fall into fight or flight mode, or we may freeze, caused by emotional numbness.

Fight, flight and freeze are the three emotions of desire, aversion and ignorance, or attraction, repulsion and inertia. In common life, these emotions may help us to survive, but ultimately, they are negative when they become a habitual response in all situations.

Constantly comparing ourself to other people, we become instantaneously irritable and angry, and sensitive to constructive advice. When we are stuck in this state, we can feel anxious and panicky. This can cause us to over-function and have trouble switching off, clinging to perfectionism and avoiding difficult conversations.

Why do we doubt our self?
Our self is not our reality.

Our reality is consciousness that watches this self, this bunch of ideas that runs amuck. As long as we cling to ideas of ourstatus, we will think that we are an impostor; we feel vulnerable and never good enough, and so we become defensive and/or offensive. Re-acting is really a performance: we posture, behaving in a way that is intended to convey a false impression of sincerity. Often, so-called ‘spiritual teachers’ know how to do this, and most students fall for it by bowing even lower than is necessary.

Give up the impostor self.

Accept it for what it is
– our teacher.

As long as we remain a student,
we are willing to listen and learn, in an open manner.

IS LIFE PRECIOUS OR CHEAP?

Is Life Precious Or Cheap?

If life is precious, we are rich due to inner qualities.
If life is cheap, we are poor due to mundane worldliness.

If we are only concerned with worldliness, we lack insight.
If we have insight, worldliness is hell.

If we know we are in hell, we have insight.
If we do not know we are in hell, we are in hell.

WHY DO I WRITE SO MUCH?

Why Do I Write So Much?

Every day, we hear and read total nonsense which has a subconscious influence on people: this happens at an alarming rate.

There is so much ‘information’ that we just give up being critical. Machiavellian and unscrupulous politicians take advantage of our fears and hopes, and that affects our mental and physical wellbeing.

Those in authority do not care about our spiritual welfare and the clarification of consciousness. They haven’t a clue what that is because they get nothing out of it. No fame, no gain. They want us to believe in a personality instead. It doesn’t matter which side we take, as long as we are divided. The media is all about getting us to adopt a point of view and take sides, thus creating disharmony, dissatisfaction and reactions.

Unfortunately, spiritual groups offer sentimental harmony, sentimental satisfaction and sentimental reactions.

Protection from all this chaos and confusion lies in knowing that we are, first and foremost, consciousness – pure and simple. Ignorance of this knowledge is the blueprint for our reactions and behaviour.

It is our mental health that is at stake.
Been there, done that.

Information makes us pedantic
–  over-scrupulous and excessively concerned with minor details or rules
and that separates us.

Seeing is not believing; seeing is knowing.
And we need to be reminded, moment by moment.

WE ARE PROFOUND BEINGS WITH DEEP INSIGHT

We Are Profound Beings With Deep Insight

We are profound beings with deep insight.
And what do we do?!
We ‘enrich’ ourselves with trivial entertainment.
Why is that?
It’s what we are familiar with.
Why is that?
We are brought up with it.
Why is that?
Historically, evil has never wanted humanity
to become familiar with its true reality.

Evil governance wants people to live in a state of dreamy forgetfulness and idleness, spending their precious time in indulgence, rather than dealing with practical matters of truth.

We should be a contemplative society, evaluating levels of consciousness, and not binding ourselves to partisan beliefs, limping along in dull confusion.

Act like an enlightened being.
Once we are familiar with this,
profound insight raises the levels of consciousness.

Don’t take my word for this:
contemplate on it.

NONSENSE IS THROWN AT US DAILY

Nonsense Is Thrown At Us Daily

Nonsense is thrown at us daily.
We either accept it for an easy life of vacancy, or become hysterical and occupied.

As we identify with projections in the mind, constant distractions put us to sleep, and we remain unaware of the spontaneous presence of pure consciousness. It’s a form of hypnosis by the ‘news’.

When this nonsense is obvious, it awakens us to the middle way, and this is the reason why evil can never totally succeed.

There are always opposing forces which entail choices:
awaken with dignity, or be subject to denial.

Thank you, evil nonsense!
You facilitate awakening.

REALISATION NEEDS NO ORGANISATION

Realisation Needs No Organisation

Realisation is the experience of our natural state = free spirit.

If we do not realise our true reality of consciousness, free of doctrine,
we will be bound to others organising our thoughts.

Not knowing our true essence, we turn to various kinds of ‘organisations’ to run our lives for us. We may think that we’re free, but that’s just our mind going along with beliefs. It’s we who have to actually make the journey into consciousness by dropping the fixations which govern us.

We may assume that we think outside the box; we argue … and end up in a boxing match. 😀

We are free when we realise it, rather than just hear about it. Not bound to any ‘organisation’, we’re free to be unconditionally compassionate.

When we arrive at the shore of realisation, we drop the boat of mindfulness, leaving only footprints.
Others can build sand-castles …

Christ wasn’t Christian.
Buddha wasn’t Buddhist.

COMPASSION FOR THOSE WHO ARE ‘HAPPY’

Compassion For Those Who Are ‘Happy’

Compassion for those who are ‘happy’.
Empathy for those who are unhappy.

Whatever influences us is down to our karmic propensity, which due to past experiences; like attracts like. If those experiences are not enlightened experiences, they are of little value.

True compassion is running low on this planet.
We are all too ready to take sides,
and so we lack empathy for others’ plight.

The differences in our views are due to our pasts. Empathy / compassion is the middle way.

When we feel good about ourselves, we are arrogant.
When we just accept our self, we are humble and grounded.

Humble: from Latin humilis ‘low, lowly’, from humus ‘ground’.

We should never trust our views;
they are acquired from others.

Trust the view,
direct from pure consciousness.

IS LIFE RANDOM OR PERFECTLY CO-ORDINATED?

Is Life Random Or Perfectly Co-ordinated?

A leaf falls from a tree. Does it drop straight down?
Conditions dictate how and where it falls.
Even those conditions aren’t random
– they, in turn, are created by other conditions.

If we think life is unfair, we aren’t looking at patterns.
Our life is like that leaf, dictated by subtle causes and conditions.
There is a predictable pattern in apparent chaos
– and in our behaviour 🙂

If we are random in our thoughts, life seems random.
The more closely we investigate, however, the more connected everything is.
We may not investigate DNA for instance, but there are those who do.

Our body, speech and mind are caused by karmic conditions and,
if not kept in check, create further predictable karmic conditions.

The view that death is the total end affects our responses.
The view that death is another beginning affects our responses.

In this way, we understand the importance of empathy and compassion.

IT IS EGO THAT MEDITATES

It Is Ego That Meditates

Ego looks:
I want to meditate, to find happiness.

Consciousness sees:
Consciousness sees the meditator.

Pure consciousness drops the seeing:
Pure consciousness drops the meditator.

No I, no meditation, no pure consciousness, know happiness.

THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME

There’s Something Wrong With Me

I always knew there was something wrong with me. Why did I never feel right? Others ‘felt’ right, but I didn’t.

Then I wondered who it was asking this question.
The answer was what was feeling this question.

Some might say this is the mind going round in circles, which is ‘right’ for them.
When I found a teaching that said this isn’t the case, and that our reality is merely two steps back, it was a revelation.

Stepping back is the path.

We step back into consciousness
– a rare event in human society.

Stepping back into pure consciousness is even rarer
– and the right confidence arises.
